This invention relates to an advertising device, the general object of the invention being to provide movable parts on the device or sign, with a wind wheel for operating such parts.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:--
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device, showing the parts in one position.
Figure 2 is a front view of the device.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1, but showing the parts in a different position.
Figure 4 is a sectional detail view showing the gearing.
Figure 5 is a side view, showing how the bottle is connected to the associated parts.
Figure 6 is a sectional detail view showing how the platform is pivotally connected with the standard.
In these drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a hollow standard to which a platform or beam 2 is rotatably connected by having a part 3 depending from the platform or beam extending into the upper endof the standard. A figure A has its leg parts 4 fastened to the beam 2, as shown at 5, with the body 6 pivoted to the upper ends of the legs, as shown at '7. The figure also includes the arm 8 which is fastened in a stationary manner to the body, as shown at 9. A brace 10 has one end fastened to the beam 2 and its other end has a hole therein through which the pivot '7 passes.
A representation of a bottle 11 is pivoted to the outer end of the arm 8 and a link 12 has one end pivoted to the bottle, as shown at 13, and its other end to the brace, as shown at 14. A pitman 15 has one end pivoted to the outer end of the arm, as shown at 16, and its other end is pivoted to a gear 1'7, as shown at 18, with the pivot 18 acting as a crank and this gear is rotatably supported on a standard 19 carried by the beam. A second gear 20 is rotatably supported by the standard 0 and the shaft 21 of which passes through the bearing member 22 and has its outer end connected to the hub of a wind wheel 23.
A sign 24 is carried by the beam and acts to keep the wind wheel in the wind.
Thus it will be seen that the beam will rotate on the standard and is rotated by the action of the wind on the sign 24 and the rotation of the wheel 23 by the wind will cause the pitman 15 to rock the bottle on the arm 8 and through means of the rod 12, the Figure 6 is moved on the pivot 7, so that as the bottle is rocked, the figure moves rearwardly from the position shown in Figure 1 to that shown in Figure 2, and thus the device will have the appearance of one drinking from a bottle.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a standard, a horizontal member rotatably supported from the standard adjacent one endof said member, a sign connected with the member, a figure carried by the member and including legs and a body, the legs being fastened to the member and the body being pivoted to the legs, an arm connected to the body, a member pivotally supported by the arm, a wind wheel carried by the horizontal member, and means for rocking the member pivoted to the arm by the rotary moveinent of the wind wheel.
2. A device of the class described comprising a standard, a horizontal member rotatably connected with the standard adjacent one end of the horizontal member, a figure including a body and legs, the legs being fastened to the horizontal member and the body being pivoted to the legs, an arm connected with the body, a bottle pivotally connected with the arm, a brace extending upwardly from the horizontal member, a link pivoted to the brace and to the body, a crank wheel supported from the horizontal member, a pitman connecting the same with the arm, and a wind wheel carried by the horizontal member and geared to the crank gear, and a sign connected with the horizontal member for keeping the wind wheel in the wind.
