The present invention relates to a leaf transferring device in cigar machines of the type in which a leaf carrier receives a cut tobacco leaf from a cutting pad and is moved to a wrapping device, in which the tobacco leaf is removed from the carrier and wrapped about a bunch. For this purpose the leaf carrier is made to perform an oscillating movement about its shaft and this shaft is made to move parallel to itself. In the machines hitherto used these movements are effected by means of levers controlled by slot drums, slot plates or the like, said levers actuating the leaf carrier through the intermediary of hinged arms or the like. This arrangement involves complicated movement-transferring devices having a great number of swivel points with consequent large friction.
These disadvantages are eliminated by the present invention, which is principally characterized in that the shaft of the leaf carrier or an extension thereof is adapted to be controlled by a curve slot or a curve track in such a manner that the shaft moves parallel with the profile of the curve slot respectively the curve track. The most simple way of doing this is by arranging the swivel shaft of the leaf carrier or an extension thereof to run in a curve slot or against a curve track in order to impart to the leaf carrier such a movement that the shaft thereof moves parallel with itself. To provide for the oscillating movements of the leaf carrier the carrier is provided with an arm which is arranged to run in a second curve slot or against a curve track provided for this purpose. Said curve slots may be arranged in the same plate but it is preferable to arrange each curve slot in a separate plate in order to provide for setting of the curve slots individually and independent of each other. The
new arrangement has the advantage that the number of parts required for the construction is reduced. Above all the number of swivel points will be less, whereby friction will be reduced and the construction will be more lasting and require less re-setting.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing. Fig. 1 is a side view, partly in section, and Fig. 2 a horizontal view. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail in section showing the arrangement permitting relative adjustment of the two plates.
The leaf carrier 1 is of the type usually employed in cigar machines and is provided with a suction chamber disposed at and connected to a hollow shaft 2. The shaft 2 is pivotally supported by a hollow arm 4 which in turn by means of a hinge 8 is connected to a hollow arm 3. This arm 3 is attached to a hollow, pivotally mounted shaft 9, the interior of which is in connection with a suction device not shown. According to the invention the shaft 2 is provided with a guide tap 2a, which either directly or through the intermediary of a roller 5 is arranged to slide in a curve slot 22 provided in a fiat plate 6. The curve slot is so formed and the extension thereof is such that the leaf carrier through the intermediary of the shaft 9 and the arms 3 and 4 is moved from the cutting pad 25 to a wrapping device (nct shown), having first passed over an adhesive applying device not shown. To the free end of the guide tap 2a projecting above the plate 6 is fixed an arm 7 which by means of a pin, or a roller 17 provided on the pin, is arranged to slide in a curve slot 23 in a second plate 18. This curve slot is positioned in relation to the curve slot 22 in such a manner that the leaf carrier while moving along the slot 22 is also given a rotating movement in order that the leaf carrier may take up the correct positions relatively to the cutting pad, the adhesive applying device and the wrapping device.
The fiat plates 6 and 18 provided with curve slots are arranged above and at a certain distance from each other and are supported by a bracket 20 fixed to the bearing 30 of the shaft 9 and by a standard 34 fixed to the frame of the machine. The lower plate 6 rests directly on the said supports (the bracket 20 and the standard 34), the upper plate 18 through the intermediary of distance rings 31. The plates are fixed to the support by means of screw bolts 26, 32 respectively 2'7, 33 and the holes provided in the plates and the distance pieces for the bolts, as well as the holes in the plate 6 for the distance pieces, are so large as to enable the plates to be individually set or adjusted horizontally, i. e. in their 0 planes.
The shaft 9 is given an oscillating swivelling movement by means of the following arrangement. On the lower end of the shaft 9 is fixed a conical toothed segment 11 in engagement with a second toothed segment 12 fixed to a shaft 13. The toothed segment 12 is provided with an arm 14 carrying a roller 15. This roller 15 is arranged to slide in a curve plate 16, attached to a rotating shaft 19 of the cigar machine.
As mentioned above the guide tap 2a respectively the roller thereof and the arm 7 respectively the roller thereof may also be arranged to run against curve tracks instead of running in curve slots, or the guide tap 2a respectively the arm 7 may be provided with a yoke-shaped member, the jaws of which enclose a curved bar or rail.
What I claim is:--
1. In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a rock shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, means for giving the leaf carrier an oscillating movement about said rock shaft, a driving shaft, a curved track and operating means for causing the rock shaft to move parallel with itself along said curved track, said operating means forming a suction conduit from said driving shaft to said leaf carrier.
2. In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a rock shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, means for giving the leaf carrier an oscillating movement about said rock shaft, said means consisting of an arm on the rock shaft, and of a curved track, against which the arm is adapted to travel, a driving shaft, a second curved track and operating means for causing the rock shaft to move parallel with itself along said second curved track, said operating means forming a suction conduit from said driving shaft to the leaf carrier.
3. In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, means for giving the leaf carrier an oscillating movement about said shaft, said means consisting of an arm on the shaft, and of a curved track, against which the arm is adapted to travel, a second curved track and means for causing the shaft to move parallel with itself along said second curved track, said curved tracks being arranged on two plates.
4. In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, means for giving the leaf carrier an oscillating movement about said shaft, said means consisting of an arm on the shaft, and of a curved track, against which the arm is adapted to travel, a second curved track and means for causing the shaft to move parallel with itself along said second curved track, said curved tracks being arranged on two plates, said plates being arranged in two planes which are parallel with each other.
5. In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, means for giving the leaf carrier an oscillating movement about said shaft, said means including a curved track, a second curved track and means for causing the shaft to move parallel with itself along said second curved track, said two tracks being arranged on parts, which are arranged the one directly above the other.
6. In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, means for giving the leaf carrier an oscillating movement about said shaft, said means consisting of an arm on the shaft, and of a curved track, against which the arm is adapted to travel, a second curved track and means for causing the shaft to move parallel with itself along said second curved track, said curved tracks being arranged on two plates, said plates being arranged the one above the other.

In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, means for giving the leaf carrier an oscillating movement about said shaft, a curved track and means for causing the shaft to move paralllel with itself along said curved track, a driving shaft, and a single toggle lever forming a channel between the leaf carrier shaft and the driving shaft.
11. In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, means for giving the leaf carrier an oscillating movement about said shaft, a curved track and means for causing the shaft to move parallel with itself along said curved track, a driving shaft, a single toggle lever connecting the leaf carrier shaft and the driving shaft, the driving shaft, the toggle lever and the leaf carrier shaft being hollow and communicating with each other.
12. In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, a curved track, means for causing the leaf carrier to oscillate about said shaft, said means including said curved track, a second curved track, means for causing the shaft to move parallel with itself along said second track, said curved tracks being arranged on two plates, said plates being arranged the one above the other, and distance members adapted to space apart said plates vertically.

In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a frame, a shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, a curved track, means for causing the leaf carrier to oscillate about said shaft, said means including said curved track, a second curved track, means for causing the shaft to move parallel with itself along said second track, said curved tracks being arranged on two plates, said plates being arranged the one above the other, fastening members for securing the plates in the frame, said fastening members being adapted to pass through holes in one of the plates.

16. In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a frame, a shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, a curved track means for causing the leaf carrier to oscillate about said shaft, a second curved track, means for causing the shaft to move parallel with itself along said second curved track, said curved tracks being arranged on two plates, said plates being arranged the one above the other, the lower one of said plates being mounted directly on the frame, distance members on the upper side of the lower plates, the upper plate resting on said distance members.
17. In a cigar machine, the combination of a leaf carrier, a shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, a curved track, means for causing the leaf carrier to oscillate about said shaft, said means including said curved track, a second curved track, means for causing the shaft to move parallel with itself along said second track, said curved tracks being arranged on two plates, said plates being arranged in two planes which are parallel with each other, and distance members adapted to space apart said plates, one of the plates being provided with holes for said distance members.

In a cigar machine the combination of a leaf carrier, a shaft, by means of which said leaf carrier is rotatably supported, means for giving the leaf carrier an oscillating movement about said shaft, said means consisting of an arm on the shaft, and of a curved track, against which the arm is adapted to travel, a second curved track and means for causing the shaft to move parallel with itself along said second curved track, a driving shaft, a single toggle lever connecting the leaf carrier shaft and the driving shaft, the driving shaft, the toggle lever and the leaf carrier shaft being hollow and communicating with each other.
