Description

G. A. KEENE. CARRIAGE-STEP.
No.. 95,ozo, Pateited Sept.`11,`1877.
- INVENT UR By Tus Attys.
N.PETEHS. PHOTO FFICEt PATENT GEORGE A. KEENE, OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE-STEPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. [95,020, dated September 11, 1877; application filed April ;27, 1877.
To all 'whom it may concew:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. KEENE, of Lynn, in the eounty of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oarriage-Steps, which improvement is fully set forth in the following spccification and accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to the method for aL- taching rubber pads or treads to steps.
There have been numerous attempts to satisfactorily attach rubber pads to carriage-steps, which have been unsuccessful for various reasons, the principal of which reasons being the liability to become loose-and work ofi'.
The object of this invention is to produce a pad which can be easily, thoroughly, and permanently attached to the step at a slight expense.
ln the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a step upside down, With my pad detached from it. Fig. 2 is a section of the same in proper position, with my pad attached. Fig. 3 is a variation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
a represents the step. b is the rubber pad. This pad is lined upon its side next the step with rubber, cloth, canvas, or`similar material, c, which extends into skirts c' c'. The pad b having been placed upon the step a, the skirts c' c' are drawn tightly around and under the step, and firmly attached to the under side thereof, so as to adhere permanently thereto. The piece d may be afterward placed in the position shown, if desired, so as to make a better finish.. Thus a firm and enduring attachnent is made to the step, which will not easily be removed.
In order to aecommodate farmers and others who desire to buy the pads and attach them to the steps of their carriages or Wagons, an intermediate piece of Wood' or other material, e, Fig. 3, is provided, and the skirts c'may pass under the same, and be tacked or otherwise t'astened thereto.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A rubber pad or tread for application to a carriage-step, provided with depending skirts c', arranged to be fastened to the under side of the step or of the block e under the step, substantially as and for the purpose 'set forth.
GEORGE A. KEENE.
