` My invention relates to a device to be used in connection with duplicating stamps whereby location of the impression on the card or sheet may be controlled as to centering and margins so as to enhance the appearance and quality of the product and obtain uniformity between copies.A The principal object of the present invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and eiicient device adapted to serve as a guide or control for a -duplicating stamp whereby the results above indicated may be achieved with a minimum of time and labor.
'A further object of my invention is to provide a guide or allocator for a duplicating stamp of the type mentioned whereby a series of impressions may be regularly and symmetrically disposed on a single sheet.
Further objects of my invention will appear from the following detailed description thereof.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a plan view of a device constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2 2 of Figure l. Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1. The numeral 1 indicates a bed plate which is preferably constructed of sheet metal, but may be made of any other suitable material. The bed plate 1 has sides 2 and 3, and is also provided wth a back wall 4, lower in height than the sides 2 and 3. Secured to the back wall 4 are supports 5--5 for a rod 6. Slidably mounted on the rod 6 are sleeve members 7--7, said sleeves maintaining, however, a slight frictional engagement with the rod. Each of the sleeves 7 is pro- ;vided with projections 8-8 between which an arm 9 and spring 10 are secured by means of a rivet 11. Secured to the arms 9-9 is a plate 12 which is provided with two or more upstand ing pins 13. Secured to the free ends of the springs 10-10 is a plate 14. The plate 12 is provided with an upstanding ange or rib 15, and the plate 14 has a depending flange 16, said flanges being so located relatively, as clearly shown in Figure 2, that the flange 16 may just clear the g rear of flange 15 for the purpose hereinafter set forth. A removable block 17 may be mounted on the pins 13 of the plate 12, said block serving as a base for the cards or sheets to be stamped. When so mounted, the rear edge of block 17 abuis .against the front edge of the flange 15 of the plate l2, and the flange 16 therefore clears it as well as the ange 15. Mounted on supports 18 and 19 secured to t'ne side wall 2 is a rod 26. Secured to the wall 3 is a sleeve support 21 for a rod 22 one end of which may be inserted in said (Cl. lOl-413) sleeve, the other end of said rod is provided with a suction cup 23 which is adapted to secure said end to any smooth surface upon which the' bed plate 1 to set. Slidably mounted onthe rods 26 and 22 are supports 24-24 which are adapted to carry a cross rod 25. A sleeve 26 isslidably mounted on rod 25 and is arranged to carry a plate 27 which has a downwardly extending front member 28 terminating slightly above the plate 14. A set screw 29 is provided to secure the plate` 27 in proper lateral adiustment on the rod 25. The plate 27 is provided with a. forwardly extending side member 30. The supports 24J-24 are arranged to slide on the rods 20 and are secured in adjustment by means of set screws-31. Said supports are also provided with indicating pointers 32--32 which read on scales 33-33 carried by the walls 2 and 3 respectively. One of the sleeves 7 is provided with a pointer 34 which reads on a scale 35 carried by the low back wall 4.Y
The plate 14 is provided with a short forward extension 36 at the end adjacent the extension 30 of plate 27. i I
The use of my device is as follows: l
The duplicating stamp having been provided with a stencil for printing, and the block 17 having been placed on the pins 13, a card or sheet to be printed is laid on said block with its rearl edge abutting against the flange 16 of the plate 14, and its right rear corner abutting against the depending portion 37 of the extension 36. The plate A27 is then adjusted both on the rods 20 and 22 for vertical positioning, and on the rod 25 for lateral positioning. The frame of the stencil carrying stamp is then placed so that its rear edge abuts against the member 28 of the plate 27 and its right side against the extension 30 of said plate. In this position, the edge of the stamp face-rests en the upper portion of the plate 14. To make the impression, the operator then presses downwardly on the stamp, depressing plate 14 against the tension springs 10, the iiange 16 passing to the rear of flange 15, and causing the front edge of said plate 14 to grip the edge of the card or sheet to be printed on. The rolling motion of the stamp then produces the desired impression. For further copies it is only necessary to repeat the stamping action on cards or sheets positioned as above mentioned.
In order to print an orderly series of impressions from a stamp on a larger sheet, the plate 27 is moved forwardly and backwardly in the desired series of positions on the rods 20 and 22. For additional columns, where desired the card placement guide consisting of flanges 15 and 16,
etc., is moved laterally on the rod 6 and the plate 27 similarly moved on the rod 25, to the desired position, all of said movements being gauged by the indicators and scales described and shown.
It will be understood that numerous modifications of the device as above specifically described may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
