Description

Feb. 27, 1934. SEIJQ MASK FOR THE ABSORBTION OF POISONOUS GASES Filed Jan. 6, 1932 INVENTOR- Modesfo F sci 0 BY fut/d4. Kb
ATTORNEY- Patented Feb. 27, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MASK FOR THE ABSORPTION 0F POISONOUS GASES 2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in masks for the absorption of poisonous gases, and has for its object to provide a mask that may securely be worn under circumstances, where otherwise poisonous fumes or gases would be dangerous and sometime prove fatal to a person breathing them.
As the construction of this device is comparatively simple the cost of manufacturing should be proportionately low, thereby securing a wide market for this invention.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which;
Figure 1 is an elevational view of my device, from within, that is from the side facing the countenance of the wearer.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 10 indicates my device, which comprises a facial, that is a substantially mouth and nose, covering-member, or mask, 11, made of any suitable material, such as a semi-hard rubber, or a metal lined with a soft material, preferably rubber, in order to assure a compact fitting of the said device to the face of the wearer.
In front, but somewhat on the side of the center line of the said device, is arranged an opening or vent 12; and in the same opening is securely and tightly mounted a preferably rubber tube 13 for the inflow of air.
A container, or receptacle, 14. is securely attached to the said mask below the latter and substantially at the center thereof.
The said receptacle has a bottle-neck-like opening at its top through which the said tube 13 loosely passes, as enough space must be left between the said opening and the tube to permit an ample flow of air to travel from the interior of the said container up into the mask for the supply of the wearer.
In the said container is disposed an amount of water, and under certain circumstances a helltralizing fluid, into which the said tube extends, as shown in the drawing. In order, however, to secure a damper on the said fluid, a member 15 formed as a sieve and consisting of any suitable material is mounted in the said fluid, for instance by means of an offset edge-portion formed upon the inner side of the said receptacle, as indicated by the numeral 16. The water, or fluid, 17 in the said receptacle 14 serves to purify the air drawn through the same, so that the said air, when rising from the container will be free from impurities upon entering the mask proper.
As it may sometimes become necessary to change the contents of the receptacle, and in order to do so in the most convenient manner, the said receptacle is made in two parts 18 and 19 adapted to be screwed into one another.
Straps indicated by the numeral 21 are connected in any suitable manner to the mask for attaching the latter to the face of a person.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not therefore wish to limit myself to the exact construction and arrangement shown and described herein.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:-
1. In a device of the class described, a mask having an inhaling valve, and being formed with a vent, at one side of the vertical center line of the said mask, a receptacle attached to the latter, the said receptacle consisting of two parts detachably connected, a liquid disposed in the receptacle, a damper mounted in the latter, and means for engaging the said damper, a tube extending from the said vent inside of the mask and down into the said receptacle, and means for securing said mask to the face of a person.
2. In a device of the class described, a mask having a vent therein at one side of the vertical center line, an exhaling valve, a receptacle formed with a bottledike neck and secured to the said mask, the said receptacle comprising two sections detachably connected, the lower section being formed upon its inner side with an annular set off, a disc-shaped damper having an aperture at its center and being mounted upon the said set off, a liquid disposed in the receptacle and a tube extending from the vent of the mask and inside the latter down into the said receptacle, and means for securing the said mask to the face of a person.
