IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
-specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,805, dated September 4, 1877; application filed July 9, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NELsoN W. OoNE, of Delaware, in the county of Delaware and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Churn, of which the following is a speoifica tion:
Figure 1 is a plan view. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line main Fig. 1.
Similar letters of referenceindicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a churn that will thoroughly and expeditiously cut and agitate the cream, and that is simple and inexpensive in construction.
In the drawing, Ais a cream-receptacle,which consists of a rectangular box, having a suitable cover, I), and having grooves a formed at its ends for receiving bars d, from which fin-. gers or breakers 6 project toward the center of the churn. B is a shaft, that is journaled in the center of the box A, and is provided with a number of blades or paddles, O, which pro ject radially from the shaft, and are of such width as to nearly fill the spaces between the breakers e. The breakers and blades should be of about the same width, and the number of each should be proportioned to the size of the churn.
One or two of the bars d, having breakers e, may be used, and when the butter is gathered or worked the bars 01 may be removed from the churn. The shaft B is also removable, so that all of the parts may be readily cleaned.
In the present case the breakerseare tapered on one side, the tapered side being uppermost at one side of the churn, and oppositely arranged at the other side but I do not confine myself to any particular form of breaker or paddle blade.
The shaft B projects through the end of the box, and upon it a pinion, f, is placed, which is driven by a spur-wheel, 9.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters NELSON W. CONE.
