Description

Patented Feb. 13, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in a rectal nozzle for syringe, douche, or the like.
Among the features of my invention is the provision of such a device that can be easily inserted without danger of injury to the tissues and which, when inserted, is not likely to become blocked or stopped up.
Another feature of my invention isthe provision of such a device with a removable handle permitting its ready insertion and removal by the patient himself.
Other features and advantages of my invention will appear more fully as I proceed with my specification.
In that form of device embodying the features of my invention shown in the accompanying drawing- Figure l is a view in side elevation; Fig. 2 is a View in rear elevation; and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view.
As shown in the drawing, the nozzle includes an elongated member, indicated in general by 10, said member being provided with a rounded closed inner end 11. 12 indicates a recess in the form of an annular groove about midway between the two ends thereof.
'I'he nozzle is provided with a main bore 13 leading to its outer end. cross bores extending from the groove or recess 12 to the main bore.
15 indicates a flange on the outer end to prevent the nozzle from being inserted too far. The flange 15 also is adapted to press against the buttock to close the end of the anal canal when the nozzle is inserted. Outside of this flange is preferably another flange 16.
17 indicates an inserting handle with means for detachably securing one end of said handle to the nozzle. As here shown, for this purpose, the handle 17 is provided at its end with a bifurcated spring portion 17a adapted for insertion between the flanges 15 and 16.
In Fig. 1, the nozzle is shown inserted in the rectum 18 with the handle 17 still attached to the nozzle. After the nozzle has thus been in- 14, 14 indicate two serted, the handle 17 can be removed by drawing the forked end 17a out from between the flanges 15 and 16. When the handle is attached, the forked end, because of its spring resistance, is firmly and detachably held between the anges 15 and 16.
The end of the nozzle being rounded and closed, as indicated by l1, does not injure the tissues as it is inserted. When the hole in a nozzle is at the extreme end, the edges of the hole are likely vto damage or injure the tissues. The holes 14 opening into the recess 12 are not likely to be clogged or stopped up when theY nozzle is put into place.
The nozzle can be used for enemas, ointments, liquids, etc. If it is used for an ointment, for example, as it is pulled out, the inner end inside of the recess 12 will spread ointment on the walls of the rectum.
While I have shown and described certain embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes, therefore, in the construction and arrangement may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as disclosed in the appended claim, in which it is my intention to claim all novelty inherent in my invention as broadly as permissible, in view of the prior art.
. What I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A nozzle of the character described; including an elongated member with a rounded closed end and an annular recess on the side, said member having a main bore therein leading to its outer end, a cross bore extending from the bottom of said recess to the main bore, and a pair of flanges on its outer end; in combination with an inserting handle having means for detachably securing one end of said handle to the nozzle, said means including a part on the handle adapted to be held frictionally between the flanges on the nozzle.
