This invention relates to a sterilizer particularly adapted for use in connection with barbers tools or implements or other relatively small articles of cutlery or the like.

One particular object is to provide a construction using a flame, which will not blacken the articles incidental to sterilization and also will not spoil or injure the cutting edges thereof.

It is further aimed to provide a novel construction which is constantly ignited and which is operable to project fuel across the fiame to provide a relatively large sterilizing flame.

lhe more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawing illustrating an operative embodiment.

Referring specifically to the drawing, 10 designates a suitable receptacle of metal or any other desired material adapted to be filled with liquid fuel, such as alcohol, benzine, naphtha or the like, through an opening 11 normally closed 30 by a screw plug 12.

A head construction 13 surmounts the body 10, preferably having an integral or one-piece body 14 having a depending collar or fell 15 which is detachably screw threaded at 16 to a neck 17 r on the receptacle 10.

Head 13 is closed by a wall 18 above the fell 15 and above the closed wall, a hollow portion 19 is provided which has a crown plate 20 hinged in place at 21 whereby it may be opened when desired.

A wick of suitable absorbent material is used at 22 which extends into the fuel and into a tube 23 fastened to the wall 18. A feeder stem 24, for the wick, is journaled in the fell 15 and on the tube 23, having a toothed wheel 25 which engages the wick so as to move the latter up and down.

A burner tube 26 extends diametrically through the hollow portion 19 and is provided with an opening 27 directly above the wick 22 and in line with such opening or adjacent the same,

A pump construction is used to supply fuel from the receptacle 10 into the tube 26 across the opening 27 and to this end, a rubber bulb 30 is connected to a tube 31, leading to a chamber 32, from which a nipple 33 extends, which is detachably fitted into the hollow portion 19 and adjacent end of tube 26. A pipe or tube 34, is no screw threaded into the tube 32 and extends through a suitable connection 35, removably into the receptacle 10. In use, the wick 22 may be lighted upon the raising of the plate 20. Thereupon the plate is closed, sufficient air being drawn in through the

28 and 29 and through additional ports 36 in the hollow body 19.

When an article is to be sterilized, it is held adjacent the left hand or open end of the tube 26 and the bulb or pump 30 is successively compressed and permitted to expand, thereby pumping fuel through the pipe 34, chamber 32, nipple 33 and into the tube 26, the same crossing the opening 2'7 and being ignited and issuing as a flame of considerable size at the open end of the tube 26, such flame engaging and serving to sterilize the razor, comb, knife or any other article with which the same contacts, without injuring the cutting edge thereof and without blackening the article.

It is obvious that the parts comprising the device may be made of any suitable material and where metal is used, that it may be o-rnamentally finished by nickel plating or otherwise as desired or preferred. 5

Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.

I claim as my invention:--

A sterilizing burner comprising a fuel container having an open top and a burner head secured thereon, said burner head comprising a chambered member, the bottom wall of which forms a closure for the fuel container and has a Wick carrying means therein, a wick secured in said means and extending from a point in said chamber downwardly into the container, an open ended tube extending through said chamber and having an aperture in its lower wall portion immediately above said wick, and an atomizing fuel pump operatively associated with said fuel container and secured to said head with its discharge nozzle in axial connection with one end of said tube to direct a stream of atomized fuel and air therethrough, said chamber having its top and side walls apertured to provide a combustion chamber for the wick flame.
