Description

Feb. 6, 1934. E R I 1,946,011
COAL DUST FURNACE Filed Sept. 29, 1931 Patented e 1934 I Eugen Burg, Essen, Germany.
Application September 29, 1931, Serial No. I 565,734, and in Germany October 24, 1930 3' Claims; -(c 1 10-28) This invention relates to coal dust furnaces and ary air currents from entering the combustion more particularly to coal dust furnacesfor flue space and, besides, eflectingcooling of the com-' boilers, marine boilers and the like, and consists bustion gases at'this placewith the result that essentially therein that the combustion space is the cinders produced at thi place will be of gran- I positioned within a refractory lining provided at ulated structure and may be withdrawn-from'the 1 the front part of the flue and that said refractory channel towards the front part of the boiler. I lining is constructed to form an air admission In the drawing which forms part of this speci space which is in connection with said combusflcation'I have represented an example of con- 1 tion space by means of slots or the like, such as is struction of a coal dust furnace constructed 9.0-
10 generally the case in ordinary coal dust furnaces cording to the principles of my present inven- 5 r for flue boilers. v tion, Fig. -1 being alongitudinal section and Fig.
My invention consists further in providing a- 2 a transverse section along line 2-2 of Fig. '1 channel for clinker within said'refractory lining in the direction of arrows through my new fur at the under part of the flue. nace. l r
For the construction of coal dust furnaces for The lining a of the flue h is made up from 7 flue boilers it had been proposed to arrange the refractory or flreclay bricks in such a manner combustionspace at the front part of the flue. In that there will be left an intermediary space b a construction of this kind, however, there will between said lining and the wall of the flue, said n be considerable difiiculties, because a complete space being in connection with the air supply combustion cannot be attained in the part of the pipe d. The refractory or flreclay bricks which 75 flue which is provided with a refractory lining Serve as Spacing members are designated by i with the result that clinker will be formed at this in the drawing. ur un the bricks is a part of the flue. jacket 1' for retaining the same in position These disadvantages are avoided by my invenagainst e Outer p iph ra W Of the i tion according to which I propose to construct T lining a is u t e provided wi ta e tialand arrange the aforementioned refractory liny di ected Slots 0 which serve for the introducing in the flue in such a manner that said lining tion of secondary air into the combustion space will form an air admission space in proximity The mixture Of 0091 dust and is pp to the wall of the flue. This air admission space to the furnace at e. The aforementioned chanaccording to my invention further c mmuni te nel which is left free in the refractory lining at with the combustion space by means of slots or the under P t Of the f n is designated y f the like which serve for introducing the secondin 2 0f thedrawi s. The clinker Will thus ary air in tangential direction into the combusdepos t wi hin t channel a at this place t r tion space at the periphery of the latter. The will be no secondary i C ts wh ch could 35 aforementioned refractory lining whichIarrange act p the mixture of 002-1 d t nd ai At according to my invention in the front part of the thi p ac th will als b an ff tiv lin fiue will be heated to ahigh temperature during and y reason of this t e c in rs will be of operation of the boiler and thus effect a pre-heatgranulated structure and may b d aw Out 0! ing of the secondary air, but in addition to this the channel 1 towa ds t cinder d 0- 0 pre-heating it further supplies heat through the I claim: air space to the wall of the flue by radiation. By In a oa d e, a iz a flue, a reason of the helical motion of the coal dust tra sv s s t d y nd a r ra ry linin mixture and the admission of secondary air as far within the .front part O t flue, the interior of as to the end of the combustion space the comthe lining fo a Combustion Space for fu l 45 bustion of the coal dust will be carried on withmixtures, said linin h v ng a lon i udinal secin said refractory lining. .As a result of this, the tion cut away forming a channel extending the coal dust will therefore be most effectively utifull length of the lining for the collection of lized and exploited for heating the boiler with c i means at the r t end of the Channel a minimum of space required. for the removal of clinkers in the channel, re-
50 Preferably, the aforementioned refractory fractory bricks in spaced apart relation around 1 lining leaves free a longitudinal channel at the the lining, a jacket bearing against the bricks under part ofthe flue, said channel serving to enclosing the same and the refractory lining, separate and discharge clinker. An interstice part of said jacket forming the floor of the chanwill thus be provided in the aforementioned renel, said jacket forming also secondary air ad-, a
fractory lining, this interstice preventing secondmission spaces with the bricks and the lining and means in connection with the jacket for supplying air to said secondary air admission spaces. 2. In a coal dust furnace, a horizontal flue,
'a transversely slotted refractory lining within through the air spaces and slots into the com-' bustion space of the lining for complete buming of the coal dust therein.
3. In a coal dust furnace, a horizontal tubular combustion chamber flue having an inner circumferential refractory lining, with spaced air entrance openings therein, a substantially concentric enclosing flue wall surrounding the refractory lining and forming with a recessed portion of the inner lining, a channel for the removal of clinkers, a plurality of spaced circumferentially disposed bricks intermediate the ex terior of the refractory lining and enclosing flue wall, providing circumferential and longitudinal spaces therebetween, and means at one end of said lining for closing said spaces, and means at the opposite end for guiding air to said spaces whereby the incoming air is pre-heated in said circumferential and longitudinal spaces, and passes therefrom through the air entrance openings of the lining into the interior of the combustion chamber flue.
