Part 29 is attached to a similarly curved of cardboard formed into a hollow or channeled backing part 30, both being made of slightly 45 member. On top of this member is glued e flexible cardboard material so that they tend to fold 13 of a hinge made in three folds out of resume their initial flat unbent form. As a recard material- The hinge may be made of other sult, when inserted into the passageways 23 by material such as metal. The intermediate fold which it is slidably guided, e s re member 14 connects fold 13 to a fold 15 glued to an article p esses ou w y aga st the interior surface of 50 holder 16. The use of this hinge furnishes a he p r 5 0f h h The quent great degree of flexibility to the movement of friction holds the closure member in any position the member 16, permitting it to move to a poto which it is adjusted. The member may be sition where the folds are substantially in the moved in front of opening 26 as in Fig. 1 or may same plane or where they are practically one be moved upwardly to expose the opening as in 55 above the other. Obviously. the hinge may be Fig. 2.
The housing section being complete, it is placed around the intermediate section in contact with the rear vertical side of the platform 12 to which it is glued. The housing and intermediate sections are now in effect a rigid unit. This unit is placed into the base through the opening in the top of part 11 and glued to the bottom of part 10, the opening locating the unit in proper position. The horizontal top marginal portions of the base hold the unit rigidly'against tendency to move laterally relative to the base. By making the base and platform hollow or channeled, the construction and assembly are simplified at the same time providing rigidity to the device.
The assembly is now complete. Figs. 1 and 4 the device is ready forshipping the closure member is down, the lower edge entering the passage 21 between the vertical side of angle piece 20 and the adjacent side of theplatform 12. The device is then ready for packing and shipping. As shown in Figs. 2 and 5, the
closure member is up and the article carrying member moved to inclined position with the forward portion extending out of the housing and resting on the base.
While the invention has been described with reference to a single preferred embodiment, it is understood that the invention is not restricted to any particular form or material but may be varied within the scope of the invention without departing therefrom. I therefore desire to be limited only by the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. A device comprising a member adapted for As shown in holding an article, a support to which said member is secured for movement into different positions on the support, a housing for said member to conceal and protect said member when in one position and having an opening through which the member is movable to display position exterior of the housing adapted to be assembled with said support, and a hollow base above which said housing extends and within which the assembly of said support and housing is insertible as a unit and to which it is fastened.
2. A portable device comprising a member adapted to hold an article, a support means for mounting said member on said support for movement into different positions, a housing for said member connected with the support and having an opening through which the article holding member may be viewed and through which said member is adapted to be moved to outside position, and a cover carried by the housing and movable thereon to a position in front of said opening to conceal and protect said member when in a position inside said housing.
3. A device comprising an article holder, a
housing therefor, a frame on which the housing is rigidly mounted, a platform provided on the frame, a hinge connection between said platform and said holder for adapting the latter to move from a position in said housing to a position outside the housing, said frame having a part rigid therewith, extending beyond the front of said housing to provide a rest for said holder when in outside position.
