Description

Jan. 30, 1934. J. K. DIAMOND LINK BELT Filed Jan. 29, 1931 INVENTOR Jan cs K. Diamond B 6 A f f ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 30, 1934 LINK BELT James K. Diamond, Grand Rapids, Mich., as-
signor to Clipper Belt Lacer Company,
Grand Rapids, Mich., a corporation of Michigan Application January 29, 1931. Serial No.
2 Glaims.
The main objects of this invention are: First, to provide a link belt of the V type in which the links may be formed light material and at the same of comparatively time are capable of carrying heavy loads.
Second, to provide a structure having these advantages in which the facing members of the links or the friction members may be very easily renewed as occasion requires.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitely appear The invention is defined in scription to follow. the claims.
from the de- A structure which embodies the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing,
in which:
flexed relation, omitted.
the
facing members being Fig. 4 is a transverse section on line 4-4 of Figs. 1 and 2.
the coupling pins on a 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing,
made up of a pair of by the numeral 1.
These line corresponding to line my improved belt is designated generally links are each made links up of a pair of body members 2, preferably sheet metal stampings and having coupling loops 3 and 4 at the ends thereof.
The body members have offsets 5 therein suitably spacing the loops 4 to receive the loops 3 between them.
The body members and secured together are disposed back to back by means of the rivets 6.
The plug-like facing members '7, which are preferably of rubber composition,
are disposed on the sides of the body members and clamped thereto by means of the opposed clamping lugs 8 and 9, there being a pair of lugs 8 and a single lug 9 illustrated in the embodiment of the accompanying drawing.
The lugs 8 have inturned portions 10 which are embedded in the facing blocks, the facing blocks being forced between these lugs or the lugs being driven down upon the facing blocks. The facing blocks have inwardly converging faces 11.
The coupling loops of the body members have converging arm portions and straight bight portions 12 to receive the coupling pin members 13 and 14. the bight portions 01' These coupling pin members engage the loops so as to rock or swing therewith. The coupling pin member 13 has a flat face 15 with a longitudinal groove 16 centrally of its face and a transverse recess 1?, while the pin member 14 has a curved face 18 with a raised portion 19 at the center engaging no the bottom of the recess which is fiat. This member also has a tongue 20 coacting with the groove 16 so that the members have rocking engagement upon each other but are held against relative sliding movement.
This pin feature is that of my co-pending application, Serial No. 511,998, filed concurrently herewith and in which application I have presented claims to this feature.
The parts of the links are economical to produce and may be readily assembled, and the face blocks may be renewed as occasion may require. The belt is capable of transmitting heavy loads, even when made of light material. 7
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A link of the class described comprising a pair of metal body members having coupling loops at the ends thereof, rivets securing the body 30 members together in direct back-to-back contact, the coupling loops at one end only being spaced, and rubber facing blocks individually disposed on the sides of said body members and depending below the main part thereof, each of 55 said body members having a pair of substantially spaced integral lugs on its upper edge and a central downwardly offset integral lug on its lower edge in clamping engagement with said facing blocks, the upper lugs each terminating 0 in an inturned spur engaging its facing block, and one of said rivets connecting said downwardly offset lower lugs.
2. A link of the class described comprising a pair of body members having coupling loops at the ends thereof, means securing the body members together in direct back-to-back contact, and facing blocks individually disposed on the sides of said body members and depending below the main part thereof, each of said body members having a pair of substantially spaced integral lugs on its upper edge and a central downwardly offset integral lug on its lower edge in clamping engagement with said facing blocks, the upper lugs each terminating in an inturned spur engag- JAMES K.
