19 claims. (ci. iol-174) One feature of my invention is directed to means whereby sheets fed from two separate sources of supply may be fed to a common rotary carrier to be transferred thereby to an impression cylinder having an odd number of impression surfaces.
Another feature of my invention is directed to means for causing the` impression cylinder to retain a sheet thereon beyond its point of delivery upon the failure of the rotary transfer carrier to take a sheet from either feeder, thus causing the sheet on the impression cylinder to receive a secon'd impression as it is carried through the press and thereby protect the im- 18 pression cylinder packing from receiving said last named impression.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 represents a detail side elevation of a sheet feed rotary printing press with my improvements applied thereto;

Two sources of sheet supply are herein shown as sheet feed tables 13, 14, arranged one above the other on the same side of the impression cylinder, the upper sheet feed table being provided with a sheet stop 15 mounted on its rock shaft 16 and the lower sheet feed table being provided with the sheet stop 17 mounted on its rock shaft 18.
Two rotary sheet feed carriers 19, 20 arey arranged to feed the sheets from their respective upper and lower sheet feed tables 13 and 14 to the common rotary transfer carrier 21. The upper rotary sheet carrier 19 is provided with a set the set of grippers 25 on the rotary transfer carrier 21.

The rotary sheet delivery carrier 30 is provided with a set of grippers 31 arranged to receive the successive printed sheets from the sets of grippers 10, 11 and 12 of the impression cylinder and 90 deliver said sheets to a suitable point, such as an endless delivery carrier 32.

The operation of this latch is controlled through an electric circuit 46 by a detector roller 47 carried by an arm 48 on the rock shaft 49 adjacent the periphery of the rotary sheet transfer carrier 21. The instant that the detector roller 47 contacts with the periphery of the rotary carrier 2l, the electrical circuit is completed, causing the latch 45 `to be withdrawn from its engagement, with the arm 44, thereby causing the control lever to move the cams 33, 35 and 38 into position to cause the grippers to remain closed as they pass each other and to cause the previously printed sheet to remain on the impression cylinder to take more or less of the second impression as the press is stopping.
