Claims.v (Cl. S12-60) The invention relates to dispensers for sheets wall 12 and vertical wall 14 are spaced to form a such as folded paper cups and the like.
dispensing slot 16 through which the cups are A type of paper cup dispenser has heretofore withdrawn closed vedge foremost, as hereinafter been devised for the reception of a cup package described. 5 having a sloping bottom wall on which fiat folded A casing member 17 is adapted to receive the paper cups are stacked in inclined position and cup package and comprises a piece of sheet from which the cups are discharged through a metal bent to form a rear wall 18, parallel side slot at the lower end of the package. Among the walls 19, and a. narrow bottom wall 20. The rear disadvantages hitherto met with in dispensers wall 18 is provided with apertured embossments io of this type are the wasteful feeding of several 21 adapted to receive screws 22 for securing the cups in one operation and the necessity for a casing member to asupporting wall 23. The botweighted follower on the stack of cups.
tom wall is provided with an upstanding stiening An object of the invention is to provide an imflange 24 at its front edge and with upstanding proved cup dispenser of this general type in which side anges 25 which are secured, as by spot weldmeans other than the stack pressure is relied on ing, to the inner faces of the side walls 19. The to resist the inward pressure on the foremost cup forward edges of the side walls 19 are formed eS ii iS WiilldiaWn, i"hereby minimizing the tendwith integral inturned flanges 26 which terminate ency to Withdraw Several Cups in one Operation, at their lower edges at some distance from the end Obviaiing in many CaSeS theneed fOI a Weightlower end of the casing member, as seen in Fig. 7. 2o" ed follower or other pressure means for the stack. At their upper ends the flanges 26 are connected Another ObJ'eCt 0f the inVentiOn iS '00 provide by a sheet metal cross strap 27 having its end a cup dispenser in which the opening of the disportions secured thereto, as by spot welding.
penser incident to reloading will partially eject The casing member 17 is closed at its front and the empty CUD Del-Clinge i0 2 DOS'GiOn permitting top by a cover member 28 comprising a piece of its ready removal.
sheet metal bent to form a front wall 29 and a A fulihel Objeei'f iS in piOViiie a Culi dispenser top wall 30 which are respectively provided with Which een be eCOnOmlCelly InanuaCiU-Ied, .and integral inturned side flanges 31 and 32 adapted which 1s of Snnple. durable, compact and hght to overlap the edges of the side wens 19. The
weight construction.
, cover member 28 is pivotally secured tothe lower i The invention further consists in the several forward portion of the easing member by rivets features hereinafter set forth.
33 which connect apertured embossments 33 on 'In the aeeeinpenying drawings, I Fg. 1 is a frOnii i the side walls 19 with ears 34 formed at the lower View of a cup dispenser embodylng the invenends of the fienges 31 and engaging the einboesmm3 ments. 35 Fig. 2 1s a side view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a bottom View thereof; Fig'. 4 is a rear view thereof; Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken valong the line 5 5 of Fig. 1; i 40 i Fig. 6 is a similar sectional View showing the dispenser in open position;
Fig. 7 is a detail sectional view taken along the line 7--7 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 8 is a top view of the dispenser casing. In these drawings, 10 designates a cup pack'- age or box containing a stack of flat folded paper An upwardly arched sheet metal bottom'member 35 is disposed between the side walls 19 and carries integral embossed ears 36 at opposite sides engageable with the side walls and pivotally se- Y cured` thereto by the rivets 33.
edges of the ears 36 on the bottom member lie along and engage the inner face of the front wall 29 of the cover member to form a driving connection by which the bottom member and cover member are swingable as a unit.
The bottom member 35 has an offset rear edge The forward Cups 11 both the package and Cups being of Wen portion 37 which is adapted to rest on the bottom known construction. As seen in Fig. 5, the pack- Wall 20 of the Casing member When the COVe age has an inoiined bottom wail 12 supporting member is in closed position. The front portion the oups in inoiined position and provided with a of the bottom member 35 1s concavely formed and finger noten 13 ai, its ioWer forward edge The has its forward edge spaced downwardly from an long vertical wall 14 of the package, here shown inclined 1in 38 formed at the lOWeT edge 0f the as the front wall, isprovided with a window slot @0l/e1 member IOn Well 29 i0 Present therebe- 15 at its lower edge. When the package is in tween e C1111 dispensing S1017 39. A miser-receivdispensing position the lower edges of the bottom ing notch 40 is cut in the bottom member 35 m register with the notch 13 in the cup package, and opens at the front edge ofthe bottom member.
The cover member is retained in closed position by a catch formed by a resilient metal strap 41 secured at one end to the inner face oithe top wall by a rivet e2, and having an upturned ree end portion 43 presenting a shoulder engageable with the inner face'oi the cross strap 27. The free end portion 43 slidably Vpasses through a slot 44 formed in the top wall 30 and is provided with a finger lip i5 by .vhich the catch may lifted and released from the cross strap 27'., An arched forked leaf spring 46 has its upper end secured to the inner face oi the lower portion of the iront wall 29' by a rivet' e7. A nubY 48 formed on the front wall 29 engages a notch 49 with the upper edge of the spring 46 to prevent rotation of the spring. The spring, which is inwardly arched, engages the iront wall 14V of` theY cup package on opposite sides of the window slot i5, and extends below the package to a point adjacent the lip 38. A window slot 5G formedin the front wall 29 in4 register with the slot-15 'in the cup package to permit inspection as to the need of reloading.
When the dispenser is to be loaded-the cover member is swung open to the horizontal position` indicated in (i, the bottom member 35 being swung upwardly with its rear edge uppermost.
The opening movement of thecover `member is" limited either by the engagement ci the arched bottom member with the lower ends or" the anges 26, or by the engagement of the cover member with the lower edges of the side walls v17.' The cup package is inserted into the open `topof'the.
casing member and descends until: its inclined bottom Wall restsv on the bottom member, the
wedge-shaped lower end of the enteriing;y
the wedge-shaped space between the" bottoni wall and the flanges 2S. The cover member'is'then swung upwardly and the package descends iar-V ther as the bottom member reaches its normal;v
position, seen in thcfspring, et vbeing pressed closer to the iront wall 29, il engaging the cross s When a cup is to be dispensed, the user inserts.: a iinger upwardly through the 'notches 4G and Yi3,
and engages the lowerinost cup, urging itforwardly and upwardly.
against the adjacent face or one archedspring 46 in tanned-ont or oiiset relation, and the lower-`Y inost cup is pushed through the dispensing slot 39, the cups immediately above being prevented from leaving by their frictional engagement with each other and with the springv 16. The loweriree;
end portion oi the spring'll is substantially parallel to the lowerinost sheets. *whe lowerniost cup,
may then be completely withdra vn by; grasping it 'between the thumb and i'oreiinger. The cups are thus dispensed one oy one and there vis no need,`
the bottom member S5 raises andpanially ejects the ernpty package so that it can easily he'withfdrawn, Y
While the dispenser is preferably used invertical positionas shown, it will be obvious-that it l can be used in other positions if the cuppackis urged toward the discharge portion of the device.
and the catch A number of theY lowercups are thereby pressed forwardly and upwardlyl What we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
