Description

Jan. 9, 1934. L. OTTQENSTROER 1,942,933
TOOTHBRUSH Filed March 11, 1933 INVENTOR Law is Oflezzstroer ATTORNEY Patented Jan. 9, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE This invention relates to tooth brushes in general, and particularly to what might be called dentifrice dispensing tooth brushes.
The prime object of this invention is to provide a useful, inexpensive and simply constructed reflllable or magazine tooth brush, in the handle of which may be placed a container of dentifrice, as for instance paste, powder, liquid or a similar preparation.
Another object of my invention is to provide in a device of this kind, suitable connections between the toothbrush and such container, so as to facillitate the removal or replacement of the latter.
Another object of my invention is to provide in 5 connection with a dispensing tooth brush, a hollow handle, which not only servesfor holding the tooth brush, but which is also arranged to house the preparation container, attached to the tooth brush.
The foregoing and still further objects will become more fully apparent from the accompanying drawing, forming part of my disclosure, but by no means intended to limit me to the actual con struction shown, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my device, with the bristles left off, and Figure 2 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view "takenon line 2.2 of Figure land showing the internal arrangement of my device.
Referring now to the figures, numeral denotes the brush end of my device, forming part of an elongated, substantially flat member and which is provided with the usual holes or sockets 11 for accommodating tooth brush bristles. At
about the centre portion of the brush-end, there metrically enlarged cylindrical portion 14. This portion is recessed, over the largestflpart of its outer surface, as indicated at 15, so as to provide for an adequate engagement with a handle'and to form a stop-bead for the latter. An internally threaded, centrally located socket 16 forms the other terminus of passage 13, and is adapted to accommodate the threaded end 17 of a tube 18, containing a dentifrice.
The handle portion 19 comprises a hollow cylindrical member, in which tube 18 ishoused. The
end of the handle, recessed end 15 of the brush member, abuts with the stop bead of the latter-and is slotted, as indicated at 20, so as to provide a tensional grip upon portion 15. The
other end of the handle is reduced and preferably perforated, as at 21, for facilitating the suspension of the toothbrush from a hook or the like.
Operation When it is desired to use my device, handle 19 is slipped off, tube 18, or a similar dentifrice container, is screwed in place and squeezed, until sufiicient medicant passes through conduit 13 and out of aperture 12. Then the handle is replaced and the'brush is ready for use.
I prefer to make the handle from water-resisting, resilient material, so as to assure a firm connection between the tooth brush end and the handle. It is quite obvious that the entire device may be readily carried about, preferably in a waterproof case, (not shown), so as to make my tooth brush available for traveling purposes, for which it is primarily intended, although it may be used in the house as wel1.--
While I have shown and described a specific form of my invention, be it understood that slight changes and improvements may be incorporated therein, and that any suitable materialmay be employed for .fabricating my article. I therefore reserve for myself the right to make such changes and improvements as may become necessary and advisable for the purpose of facilitating economic and efiicient manufacture of my device, within the scope of the annexed claim.
' I claim:
In a tooth brush, an elongated, substantially fiat brush member having a symmetrically enlarged, substantially cylindrical handle-attaching end, and a bristle carrying end, an internal, located passage provided in said member, one end of said passage terminating at one face of the flat,
bristle-carrying face, centrally between the bristles, the other passage end terminating in an internally threaded socket provided in said handle-attaching end, the latter end being recessed over the largest part of its outer surface, the nonrecessed part serving as a handle stop-bead, a hollow handle removably associated with said brush member and adapted to house a collapsible container, one end of the handle, adapted to engage the recessed end of the brush member and to abut with said stop-bead, provided with throughslots for rendering it resilient and for assuring its frictional engagement under tension withthe recessed end of the brush member, the other handle end being reduced and perforated for facilitating the suspension of the device, and a collapsible dentifrice container having a threaded orifice disposed within the handle and secured to the threaded'terminus of said passage.
