V 7 Claims. r01. 112-s'0 The invention has relation to lug hookers for working rugs or mats known as hooked or drawnin rugs, having a base of suitable fabric either plain. or having a pattern tobe worked in the rug, the edges of the fabric being hemmed or bound and the fabric stretched tightly in the usual frame. The material for working the 'rugs may be yarn or cloth unraveled or torn into strips of suitable length, such material being worked through the fabric base in'the form of loops until the rug is finished and the pattern completely worked'out, when none of the fabric base will remain visible. n

An object of the invention is to' simplify the device of applicants PatentNumber 1,605,711, dated November 2, 1926, at the same time retaining advantages thereof. Another object is toprovide simplified, means'to facilitate the adjustment 'of the length 'of the yarnloops inthe fabric base. In these drawings, the numeral 1 designates the needle carrying member, comprising a straight bar, the forward end of which is upwardly bent at 2 to form a stop engaging the other member to limit withdrawal of the needle and provided with a yarn guiding perforation 3, and the rear end of which is downwardly bent at 4 and provided with a pistol grip handle -5. The means of slidable connection of the members comprises a U-form attachment piece 11, secured to the upper side of the member 7 and having aligned apertures 12, with which the other member is engaged. One of these apertures is provided with an extension 13 through which the loo-per blade projects rearwardly and is secured to said attachment piece 11 and thereby to the related member. In the working of the device the rear portion of the needle also engages said aperture extension. The yarn is fed in from the rear through a guide perforation 14 in the rear of the needle bar near the handle end thereof, being then fed forwardly into engagement with the eye 3, and

thence to the needle eye, the latter having an indentation or concavity15 at both ends thereof to make more room for the yarn so that it will or member 1, and which may be made with a punch press, is engaged by the attachment piece 11 to limit withdrawal of the looperblade. In the manufactureddevice there are no screws, the parts being held together by spot welding.

A modification-of the invention is shown in Figures 6-11, of the drawings, wherein the needle 61has adjustable slot and bolt connection 1'7 with the related member and the looper blade 101 has adjustable slot and bolt connection 18 with the re- 9. lated member, the U-form attachment piece 111 having adjustable slot and bolt connection 19 withthe member 71, and the rear portion of the needle bar having a stop 20'having adjustable slot and bolt connection therewith, whereby the length of the yarn loops being worked in the fabric base may be varied. g

The working of the modification is the same as in the main form of the device, the stop 20 taking I claim:-

1. In a'rug hooker provided with two members slidably engaged with each other and one of which carries a needle and the other a looper blade; the needle carrying member comprising a straight bar having its forward end upwardly bent to form a stop engaging the other member to limit withdrawal of the needleand its rear end downwardly bent and provided with a pistol grip handle.

2. In a rug hooker provided with two members 119 slidably engaged with each other and one of which carries a needle and the other a looper blade; the needle carrying member comprising a straight bar having its forward end upwardly bent to form a stop engaging the other member to limit withdrawal of the needle and having a yarn guiding perforation and its rear end provided with a yarn guiding perforation-and a terminal downwardly bent portion provided with a pistol grip handle.

3. In a rug hooker provided with two members slidably engaged with each other and one of which carries a needle and the other a looper blade; the needle carrying member comprising a straight bar having its forward end upwardly bent to form a stop engaging the other member to limit withdrawal of the needle and its rear end'dow'nwardly bent and provided with a pistol grip handle, the looper blade carrying member comprising a straight bar having its rear end downwardly bent to form a handle and its forward end downwardly bent to form a presser foot.

4. In a rug hooker provided with two members slidably engaged with each other andone of which carries a needle and the other a looper blade; the needle carrying member comprising a straight bar having its forward end upwardly bent toform a stop engaging the other member to limit'withdrawal of the needle, the looper blade carrying member comprising a straight bar having its rear end downwardly bent to form a handle and its forward end downwardly bent to form a presser foot.

5. In a rug hooker provided with two members slidably engaged with each other and one of which carries a needle and the other a looper blade; the needle carrying member comprising a straight bar having its forward end upwardly bent to form a stop engaging the other member to limit withdrawal of the needle, the looper blade carrying 'member comprising a straight bar having its rear end downwardly bent to form a handle and its forward end downwardly bent to form a presser foot, the means of slidable engagement comprising a U-form attachment to the last named member having aligned apertures with which the other member is engaged.

6. In a rug hooker provided with two members slidably engaged with each other and one of which carries a needle and the other a looper blade; the needle carrying member comprising a straight bar having its forward end upwardly bent to form a stop engaging the other member to limit withdrawal of the needle, the looper blade carrying member comprising a straight bar having its rear end downwardly bent to form a handle and its forward end downwardly bent to form a presser foot, the needle having adjustable slot and bolt connection with its carrying member and the looper blade having adjustable slot and bolt connection with its carrying member, whereby the length of the yarn loops in the fabric base may be varied.

'7. In a rug hooker provided with two members slidably engaged with each other and one of which carries a needle and the other a looper blade; the needle carrying'member comprisinga straight bar having its forward end upwardly bent to form a stop engaging the other member to limit withdrawal of the needle, the looper blade carrying member comprising a straight bar having its rear end downwardly bent to form a handle and its forward end downwardly bent to form a vpresser foot, the means of slidable engagement comprising a U-form attachment to the last named member having adjustable slot and bolt connection therewith, and aligned apertures with which the other member is engaged, said other member having a rear stop having adjustablerslot andvbolt connection therewith and with which said attachment is engaged to limit withdrawal of the looper blade, the needle having adjustable slot and bolt connection with its carrying member and the looper blade having adjustable slot and bolt con- 1 JOHN E.
