Cut out 1 switches, the movable switch portionof which is longitudinally displaceable and also rotatable-in order to be able to cut out both ignition apparatuses simultaneously or separately during double ignition, are known. Moreparticularlyin connection with aircraft engines this results in the feature that ignition apparatus is employed in which completely advanced ignition and completelyretarded ignition can be obtained and in which no gradual adjustment of the time of ignition is possible. For this purpose an ignition apparatus usually set at advanced ignition is for example placed at retarded ignition by switching on a second interrupter. I
Such a switch is now, according to the present invention, combined with a press button switch for cutting out the ignition. The ignition control apparatus is preferably so arranged that when the ignition is cut out, the adjusting switch can only remain at retarded ignition. v
One form of.c'onstruction of the invention is illustrated by. way of example in the accompanying drawings in which:-

The switch mechanism is secured to, a plate 1. Mounted on this plate are two handles, the upper of which is longitudinally movable as well as rotatable about its axis. The spindle or pin 3 of this' switch can be pressed inwardly by ,a press button 2. I
On the inner end of pin 3 is a smaller pin 4 on which is secured a switch roller 6, by means of a nut 5. The switch roller 6consists o; pressed insulating material in which is inserted a metal segment 7 as shown in Fig. 5. Two grooves 8 and 9 are formed on the circumference of the roller and serve simultaneously as guides and as stops for the ends of four contact springs 10. The pin 3 has a longitudinal slot 11 at its front end, through which apeg 13 passing through a hollow shaft 12, arrangedv over the pin 3,. transmits the rotation of the hollow shaft 12 to the pin 3. A bolt 15 is riveted in the plate 1 above the press button switch and secures against rotation aplate 16 carried by the cut-out switch. The bolt 15 alsoacts as a' stop for engagement with the stops 35 on the disc 34' to limit the rotation of the cut-out switch. A cam disc 1'7 provided with a'cam projection 18 is carried by switch roller 6, but is prevented'from rotating with the roller by bolt 15 which passes through an aperture in the disc 17. As the roller is moved in or out by pressing in or pulling out button 2, the disc 17 is moved with the roller and slidesalong the bolt 15. V v
The metal segment 7 on roller 6 extends com:
pletely around the roller atpgroove 9, but the extension 38 (see Fig. 5) located at groove 8 extends only partly around the roller. When the ends of contact springs 10 engage groove 9, all
springs are connected together through the segment '7. When the springs engage. groove 8, in one position of handle 14 the. extension 38 connects the grounded spring with the spring connected to one ignition-device, and in the other extreme position of the handle itconnects the grounded spring with the spring corresponding to the other ignition device. In the center position of the'handle 14, the grounded only is connected to extension 38.
The switch for adjusting the time of ignition is a a rotating switch having two alternative positions.
It.consists of a bush 19', which is secured in the switch cover 1, a pin or spindle 20 on which is screwed a switch handle 21 and an oval contact disc 22 arranged to bridge two contact springsv 23 in one position. A drum shaped spring casing 24 is firmlymounted on the switch spindle 20.: A spiral spring 25 is mounted inside of casing 24 and the inner end of this spring is secured to a fiap extension 26 formed on disc .16 and extending' into the opened end of the drum 24. The. outer end of the spring 25 is formed as a depressible lug 36 whichproj'ects through a slot 2'7 formed in the side of casing 24. The lug 36 is positioned to engage the cam '18 on the disc 17 when the cut-out switch is inrunning position, but when the cut-out switch is moved to the cutout position the disc l'lmoves out of engagement with the lug 36. The spiral spring 25 is tensioned so that it normally tends to rotate the so pr n adjusting lever 21 in anti-clockwise directionfrom advanced to retarded position. The switch mechanism is covered on the rear side by a 'drum shaped metal casing 28 having a bottomplate 29 of insulating material, which is secured to-plate 1 by two bolts 30 and-nuts s1. Terminal lugs 32 01 the springs 10 and lugs 33 for the springs 23 are arranged on the connecting plate 29.
spindle bridges over the two springs 23, which are connected to the terminals of the interrupter 37 for retarded ignition oi the double interrupters 01' two ignition devices M1 and M21 Since contact disc 22 is grounded, the retarded interrupters 37 are grounded or connected in parallel with the advanced interrupters 3'7 when disc 22 bridges contact springs 23 and the advancedinterrupters 3'7 are thereby made ineflective because then, of course, the primary circuit or circuits will not be interrupted until the retarded interrupters 3'1 open. Reference is made to the patent to Erich Klaiber 1,861,417 May 31, 1932 25 for a more detailed disclosure of a double interrupter of the type disclosed herein. Also, when button 2 is pushed in, both ignition'devices, which are electrically connected to two diametrically opposed springs 10, are short circuited because all segment 7, and one of the springs 10 is grounded.
Before starting the engine, the button 2 is drawn out. By this the short circuit 01' one or also of both ignition devices is eliminated according to the position or the rotating handle 14. By the handle 14 it is possible to examine the devices separately in operation. When handle 14 is set on "M1 the segment of part 38 connects the spring 10 of apparatus M1 with the grounded spring 10, and only apparatus M1 is short circuited. In the same manner apparatus M: is short circuitedwhen handle 14 is set on Ma. In the position "M1-M2"- oi handle 14 the segment part 38 touches only the grounded spring 10 and, therefore, both devices are in operation.

'The adjusting lever is latched in .this position by engagement of the lug 36 with the cam projection 18, but the lever may be moved by hand to the ignition retarding position by applying sumcient force to causethe lug 36 to ride over the cam projection 18, lug 36 being depressed within casing 24 so that it can clear lug 36 and thus permit turning of the casing and adjusting lever 21. ' What is claimed is:
1. Ignition control apparatus comprising an axially displaceable and rotatable cut out switch, contact elements associated with said out out switch and adapted to be connected and disconnected by axial or rotary movement or said switch. an adjusting switch for varying the ig- -adjusting switch and adapted for connection with springs 10 are connected togetherby the metal ing switch and an angularly fixed plate member nected by axial or rotary movement of said switch, an adjusting switch ior varying the ignition timing, contact elements associated with said at least two alternative interruptors and means carried by said switches for ensuring that the adjusting switch is in the position for retarded ignition when the out out switch is in the cut out position. i
3. Ignition control apparatus comprising an axially-displaceable and rotatable cut out switch, contact elements associated with said out out switch, an adjusting switch for varying the ignition timing, contact elements associated with said adjusting switch and adapted for connection with at least two alternative interruptors, resilient means tending to move the adjusting switch into the position for retarded ignition, and detent mechanism carried by said switches for holding 0 the adjusting switch in the position for advanced ignition, said detent mechanism being adapted to be released when the out out switch is moved into its out out position;
4. Ignition control apparatus comprising an axially displaceable and rotatable cut out switch, contact elements associated with said out out switch, a rotatable adjusting switch for varying the ignition timing, contact elements associated with said adjusting switch and adapted for connection with at least two alternative interruptors, resilient means tending to move said adjusting switch into the position for retarded ignition and a detent memberfor retaining the adjusting switch in theposition for advanced ignition, said detent member being axially movable with the cut out switch so that it is disengaged from the adjusting switch when the cut out switch is moved into the cut out position.
5. Ignition control apparatus comprising an axially displaceable and rotat le cut out switch, contact'elements associated ith said out out switch, a rotatable adjusting switch for varying the ignition. timing, contact elements associated with said. adjusting switch and adapted for connection with at least two alternative interruptors, a spiral spring on the spindle oi the adjusting switch tending to move the adjusting switch into the position for retarded ignition, a projecting member angularly displaceable with the adjusthaving a cam edge adapted for en agement with said projecting member to hold the adjusting switch in the position for advanced ignition but adapted to move axially with the cut out switch on movement of the same into the cut out position to permit return of the adjusting switch into the position for retarded ignition.
6.- Ignition control apparatus as claimed in claim 5 in which the projecting member is resiliently mounted and is adapted to yieldingly engage the cam edge of said plate member.
