Description

O. E. KARNES Dec. 19, 1933.
DI SPLAY STAND Filed July 23, 1932 i. 0 E 3 gmc/nto@ FIB- www,
`Patented Dec. 19, 193s UNITED sTArss Parent' OFFICE 4 Claims.
This invention relates to display stands. It has for its general object the provision of a new and improved display stand particularly adapted for use in grocery stores to attractively display and to render easily accessible to the customer the merchandise to be sold.
A specific object of the invention is to provide a display stand embodying new and improved adjustable shelves to display goods in containers of different dimensions. Y
Another specific object is theprovision of a display stand embodying new and improved shelves and brackets therefor, including separable elements which may be cheaply manufactured and quickly Vand easily assembled and taken apart by an unskilled workmanv without special tools and which when assembled will not interfere with the alignment of cans, bottles and other containers on the shelves.
Other objects will hereinafter appear.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawing wherein Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a complete display stand; Fig. 2 a fragmentary vertical section illustrating the engagement of the post bracket and shelf; Fig. 4 a horizontal section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 3 a vertical section taken at a right angle to Fig. 2.
In Fig. 1 the post is indicated generally at 1. It is made of telescopic sections and may have mounted thereon at desired elevations brackets 2, 3, 4, 5 and v6 to support shelves 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.
Referring now to Figs. 2, 3 and 4, the second post section is indicated at l-a and the first post section at l-b. The post section l-c oomprises a pair of plates 20 and 21 Vconnected by the horizontally spaced cross bars 19; and the post section l-b comprises a pair of spaced plates 13 and 14 connected by the horizontally spaced cross bars 15.
The second post section l-a has riveted thereon, as indicated at 16, a pair of tongues 18 that are slidable into the first post section l-b between and in engagement with the spaced cross bars 15, whereby the post sections are held rigidly in alignment with each other.
The bracket 22 has a hook 22-a adaptedto enter the post sections and to engage either the cross bars 19 o r the cross bars 15. The bracket 22 has a` downwardly and inwardly extending pocket 22--b for the reception of the tongue .26 of the shelf 25. The tongue 26 is releasably held in the pocket 22-b by the plunger 28 which is urged into its active position by the spring 29. When the shelf 25 is thus locked on the bracket 22, the shelf 25 serves to lock the hook 22-a in engagement with the cross bars 15.
The cross bars and the hook of the bracket when locked together are Within the post and thereforeinaccessible so that `they cannot be inadvertentlyy disengaged. The bracket occupies only a` small space and therefore doesnot interfere with the desired alignment of cans, bottles 55 or other containers. i
I claim:
l. A display standhaving a nrst hollow post section, said section having therein horizontally spaced cross bars; a second post section having a pair of spaced tongues slidable between into I engagement with said bars; a shelf bracket having a hookmovable into said rst section and between said tongues and bars into engagementv with said bars, said bracket also having a dOWni wardly and inwardly extending pocket; a shelf having a tongue to fit in said pocket and means to hold the tongue on said shelf in said pocket to cause said shelf to lock said hook in engagement with said bars.
2. A display stand having a first hollow post section; said section having therein spaced cross bars;` a second post section having a pair of spaced tongues slidable between into engagement with said bars; a shelf bracket having a hook movable into said rst section and between said tongues and bars into engagement with said bars,. said bracket being supported by said bars; and a shelf supported on said bracket, said bracket and said shelf having cooperating means to lock 9 said hook in engagement with said bars.
3. A display stand having a hollow post; said post having therein spaced cross bars; a shelf bracket having a hook movable into saidpost between and into engagement with said bars to bear upwardly against one of said bars and downwardly and outwardly against the other of said bars, and a shelf `on said brackeusaid bracket and said shelf having cooperating means to lock said hook in engagement with said bars.
4. A display stand having a post; spaced cross bars carried by said post; a shelf bracket having a hook to'engage said bars and to bear upwardly against one of said bars and downwardly and outwardly against the other of said bars, and a shelf .onv said bracket, said bracket and said shelf having cooperating means to lock said hook in engagement with said bars.
