Description

A. E. COOKE. CLOTHES-WRIN'GERS.
P'atentedAug. 14,'1877.
`UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ALFRED E. COOKE, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR TO CHRISTIAN ROGGE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT "IN CLOOTHES-WRINGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,032, dated August 14, 1877 application filed February 9, 1877'.
j ing drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a
- longitudinal section of uprights of the same.
The object of my invention is to furnish a clothes-wringer cheap, and yet of sufficient durability to answer the purpose of atoy.
In describing the construction of my clotheswringer, reference is'made'to the accompanying drawing by letters, which designate, the
. several parts.
l take for the uprights A A suitable Wood,
. and make a straight cut, E, therein, to sepa-` rate the elastic journal-supporting strips Gr H. On the outer sides of these strips, which may be of any suitable thickness, I cut out enough material to form the openings D F, leaving the parts b b', which are thicker at the bot-V tom than at top, Where they. are united by the board I. These strips G H are designed to carry the journals of the rolls B C, and they are formed solid with the standards A at their lower ends, the upper extremities being left free to vibrate, the elasticity of the strips being sufficient to allow the rolls to separate when clothing is passed between them, and at the same time great enough tp, press the rolls together with the requisite amount of force.
Before the insertion of the rolls these strips G H stand parallel; but when the journals are placed in their bearings the rolls will press the strips apart to some degree, thereby' giving them a diverging position.
I bore the holes to receive the journals of rolls B C a suitable distance apart, so that when the journals Vare inserted therein the rolls will cause the parts Gr H to separate sufficiently to give the necessary pressure required to bring the rolls B C tightly together. I then make the top piece I, provided with transverse grooves a' on its under side, and secure it to the outside parts b b-, so that the grooves a will serve as guides for the free ends of the parts G H. I then provide the piece f', and secure it between the uprights A A., on an inoline, to serve as a water-table. I then make openings n n', to tit over the edge of a tub or other receptacle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The standards A A, having the spring? strips G H, secured to the standards at their lower ends, and having their upper extremities free to vibrate, in combination with the t rolls B C, journaled in. said strips, and with the parts b b and I, all as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The standards A A, having elastic strips G H, in combination with rolls B C, posts b b', top I, and drip-board f', all as and for the purpose set forth.
