WAT-l I ATTORNEU Patented Dec; 5, 1933 v UNITED STATES MEASURING AND DISPENSING DEVICE I Harry 0. Gessler, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application April 2, 1
2v Claims,
This invention relates to an improved measuring and dispensing device for granulated, powdered and pulverulent commodities, particularly sugar. 1
The device hereinafter described is of th same general type disclosed in my Patent No. 1,523,065 for Measured-sugar dispenser, but is constructed so that it may be easily and quickly assembled or disassembled to allow cleaning of all parts. The parts may be strongly and cheaply made of metal stampings and are so formed that there are no permanent connections between them.
My invention is capable of embodiment in many different forms, and while I have chosen for the purpose of illustration the best embodiment thereof known to me, it is to be understood that my invention is not to be limited to such illustrative form.
Fig. 1 is a vertical cross section of a measuring device and container embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of certain detachable parts and Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the measuring parts.
In these figures a container 10, preferably made of glass, is formed with an open end or neck 11. A measuring and dispensing structure 12 is attached to the container 10'preferably by providing threads 13 upon a discharge nozzle 14 and upon the container neck 11, and by providing a stop 15 upon the neck 11 to meet the rolled edge 16 of the discharge nozzle 14. Discharge nozzle 14 is formed with a discharge opening 17.
In the illustrative form chosen, a guiding member 18 is formed with an upright flange 19 which latter is fitted into a setback 20 formed in the discharge nozzle 14, preferably so that it will be held in place by friction. As shown, flange 19 may be provided with a boss 21 and thesetback may be slightly increased in diameter as it is formed upwardly, in order that the flange 19,
which will ordinarily be formed of flexible stamped metal, may be snapped in position; but I in the structure shown a friction fitis sufficient because, when assembled, a portion 22 of the member 18 will rest upon neck 11 of the con tainer. However some snap or positioning arrangement such as the boss 21 is valuable if it is tion 23 and an upturned funnel-shaped flange 24, v
a groove being provided as at 25, and a center opening as at 26. The function of member 18 is to guide the contents of the container through a restricted opening. If desired, member 18 may be made integral with the container, but I prefer,
the form shown for easy cleaning or refilling.
The edge of the flange 24 should be rolled as at 931. Serial No; 527,136
27, so that battle member 18 may be taken out by inserting a finger over the edge 27, and pulling. A cup-shaped baffle '28 with attachment means, such as the three spring legs 29, having ridges 30 which snap into groove 25, is formed so that lower edge 31 of the baiile 28 extends downwardly upon the guiding member 18 directs the flow of thecommodity to the cup-shaped baille 28. When the baiile is filled, no more of the material can leave the container. Restoringthe device to an upright position results in some of the material falling between guiding member 18 and the nozzle 12, and this portion can be discharged through discharge opening 17 by subsequent tilting. The amounts discharged each time the device is inverted, are substantially uniform.
. If the material lumps or it is desirable to wash the parts, the nozzle is unscrewed, and the inside snapped out of position. WhatIclaim is:
1. A container provided with an opening, a
discharge nozzle provided with a discharge outlet and adaptedto bedetachably mounted upon said container, a guiding member provided with a funnel-shaped portion having an outlet therein,
means adapted to removably position said member between said discharge outlet and the main body of the container, a cup-shaped bafiie, said guiding member being provided with a continuous groove, and a plurality of spring clip legs provided uponsaid cup-shaped baille adapted to snap into said groove at any point in said groove and adapted; to maintain the bafliein a definite predetermined spaced relation toosaid guiding member. t
2. In a dispensing device, a container provided with an opening, a discharge. nozzle provided with'a discharge opening and adapted to be demember provided with an opening therein and adapted to be detachably positioned between the discharge nozzle and the main body of the container, and a'cup shaped baffle adapted to be detachably mounted upon said guiding member, said guiding member being provided with a groove and said bafile beingprovided with spring legs adapted to clip into said groove so that the baffle may be detachably mounted'upon said guiding member with a predetermined space between the same.
