Fig.,12 is. a fragmentary cross section of the upper or peak portion of my roof construction on an enlarged scale taken on line 12-12 of Figs. 5 and 7. Y
Corresponding partsv are designated by the same reference characters in all the figures of the drawings.
My roof construction comprises 'generally a plurality of roof sections, to wit: end sections 1 and intermediate sections 2; bolts 3 and nuts 4 for detachably securing two adjoining sections together; hooks 5 on the rafters 6 of the building for engaging said bolts for detachably securing the adjoining roof sections to said rafters; bolts 7 in the outer edge strip 8 of the end roof sections 1 and nuts 9; hooks 10 in the end plates 11 of `the end building walls for engaging Vsaid bolts 7 fordetachably securing the outer edges of the end roof sections to said end plates; roof caps l2 for closing the joints between the adjoining roof sections; and a ridge cap 13 for ciosing the joint at the peak of the roof between the roof sections at opposite sides of the roof.
Each end section 1 comprises an inner edge strip 14, an outer edge strip 8, an outer edge finishing strip 15, intermediate reinforcing strips 16, a bottom roof edge member 17, ller strips 18, a top roof edge member 19,13J panel of veneer 20 a sheet of insulation roong 21, roof siding 22 and a flange strip 23 for said inner edge strip, said strips 14, 8, 15, 16 and 18 and members 17 and 19 forming the frame of the section. The panel 2O rests upon the edge strips 14 and 8, the finishing strip 15, the reinforcing strips 16, the bottomroof edge memberl, ller strip 18 andtop roof edge member 19, the bottom roof edge member 17 and the top roof edge member 19 being rabbeted at 24 and 25 respectively to receive the lower and upper edges of the panel 20. The insulation roofing 21 rests upon the panel 20. The roof siding 22 rests upon the roofing 21 and said siding, rooiing 21 and panel 20 are nailed together and to the edge strips 14 and 8, filler strip 18, reinforcing strips 16, bottom roof edge member 17 and top roof edge me1nber 19. The inner edge strip 14 is formed with a ange 26 upstanding from its edge above the panel 20, the upper edge of said iiange being beveled and the edge of the roong extending over said beveled'edge. The end finishing strip- 15 is formed with a flange 27 upstanding from its outer edge to the under side of the roofing 21, the siding 22 extending slightly over said flange, and the edge of the roofing.
Each intermediate section 2 comprises edge strips 14, `intermediate reinforcing strips 16, a bottom roof edge member 17, filler strips 18, a top roof edge member 19, a panel of veneer 20, sheet of insulation rooting 21, roof siding 22 and two flange strips 23 for said edge strips, the strips 14, 16 and 18 and the members 17 and 19 forming the frame of the section. The panel 20 rests upon the edge strips 14, filler strips 18, and reinforcing strips 16, and members 17 and 19. The roong 21 rests upon the panel 20. The siding 22 rests upon the roofing 21 and said siding, roofing and panel are nailed together, to said edge strips 14, reinforcing strips 16, bottom roof edge member 17 and top roof edge member 19. The edge strips 14 are formed with flanges 26 upstanding above the panel 20, the upper edge of said anges being los 'above said siding.
beveled and the edges of the roofing 21 extending over said beveled edges.
The roof sections 1 and 2 are placed upon a building roof frame with the outer edge strips 8 of end sections 1 resting upon the end top plates 11 of the end building Walls and the inner edge strips 14 of said end sections and the edge strips 14 of the intermediate sections 2 resting upon the rafters 6 of the building roof frame, the meeting edges of the edge strips 14 of adjoining roof sections being recessed at 27 to receive the hooks 5 on the rafters. The bolts 3 are inserted through holes 28 in the edge strips 14 and the nuts 4 .screwed on the ends of said bolts against the adjacent strips, for detachably securing the adjoining roof sections together; certain of said bolts extending through the hooks 5 whereby the roof sections are detachably secured on the rafters 6. The bolts '7 are inserted through holes 29 in the outer edge strips 8 and through the hooks 10 in the end plates 11 of the end building walls, which hooks extend upwardly adjacent the inner sides of said edge strips, and thek nuts 9 are then screwed on the ends of the bolts 7 against said hooks, whereby the outer edge strips Snare de-v tachably secured to the end plates 11 of the end building walls.
The flange strips 23 are placed over the flanges 26 and nailed thereto the lower edges oi said strips being beveled to iit the upper beveled edges of the flanges 26, and said beveled lower edges of said strips resting upon the roofing 21, clamping the roong there between and forming weather-tight joints. The roof caps 12 are placed over the joints between the adjoining roof sections, covering the ange strips 23 and resting upon the roof siding 22 adjacent said strips, the caps being grooved at 12 in their under sides to receive the upper edges of said flange strips which extend slightly Screws 30 are driven through the roof caps 12, and flange strips 23 into the flanges 2G of the edge strips 14 whereby the roof caps are secured to the edge strips 14, thus providing weather-tight joints between the meeting `edges of the adjoining roof sections.
The ridge cap 13 is placed over the peak of the roof and over the upper ends of the roof sections 1 and 2, the ridge cap being provided with re cesses 31 in its Linder side to receive the upper ends of the roof caps 12, in the upper' sidev ofthe upper ends of which are cut offsets 32 which are tted in said recesses. The ridge cap 13 is detachably secured to the roof by screws 33 which are driven through the roof cap into the reinforcing strips 16 and the outer edge finishing strip 15.
My roof construction may be removed from the roof frame of a building upon removing the screws 33 from the ridge cap 13; removing the screws 30 from the roof caps 12; disengaging the bolts 3 from the edge strips 14 and hooks 5; and disengaging the bolts 'Z from the hooks 10, Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A portable roof construction comprising a plurality of roof sections including edge strips arranged so that the edge strips of adjoining sections will rest upon the rafters of a roof frame, bolts and nuts for bolting together the edge strips of adjoining sections, hooks on the rafters for engaging said bolts for detachably securing said sections to the roof frame.
2. A portable roof construction comprising a plurality of roof sections including edge strips arranged so that the edge strips of adjoining sections will rest upon the rafters of a roof frame, bolts and nuts for bolting together the edge strips of adjoining sections, hooks on the rafters for engaging said bolts for detachably securing said sections to the roof frame, bolts in the outer edge strips of the end sections, which strips rest upon the end plates of the roof frame and hooks in said end plates for engaging said latter bolts.
3. In a portable roof construction, a plurality of sections, each section comprising a frame, a panel resting upon said frame, a sheet of roofing 110 resting upon said panel and roof siding resting upon said roofing, upstanding flanges along the ends of the frames of said sections over the upper edges of which flanges extend said roong, flange strips resting upon said roofing over said flanges, 115 and extending above said siding, a roof cap fitted over the ilange strips and adjoining ends of said siding of each pair of adjoining sections, and screws extending through said roof rcap and flange strips into said flanges for detachably securing 120 said roof caps in position.
