Joseph'K. Roii', Brooklyn, N. Y., assignor of one- 'thirdto William L. Roi! and one-third to Adolf raul, both of Brooklyn, N. Y. Application March s, 1933. serial No. 600,022 e claims. `(C1. 4s-s) This invention relates to screw drivers or that' and which is easily and quickly reversed so as tobring the proper blade into positiqn for operation.
A further feature is in the provision of means l forsecuring the screw driver shank. with either end extended, as firmly and rigidly as if the shan was set directly into the handle.
Another purpose is to produce an interchangeable bladed' screw driver z the foregoing advantages, providing an efiicient tool of pleasing appearance, at a moderate cost.
These advantageous objects are accomplished by the novel construction and `combination of parts-hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanyingjdrawingdorming material component of, this disc1osure,'and in whichz Figure 1 is a perspective View made in accordance with the invention.

Referring in detail to the drawing a'handle 10 of conventional typeis provided with an axial bore 11 at its front end, terminating in a shoul- ...derv 12 beyond whichis reduced exwen into the msm pm ofthe handle,
'f'which is further provided with' the usual ferrule14.. ALetters Patent'iszv Forced over the shank and tight ttedto the raised ribs 17 is an elongated collar 19 in which is xed a screw-threaded stud 20, its point entering the recess 18 while its body extends laterally outward to receive a thumb nut 21, provided with a convex inner side 21' and retained on the stud by reason of upsetting its outer extremity.
The collar 19 slidably iltted to engage in a tubular sleeve 22 having its central portion lon- 6B i g'itudinally knurled, as at 23. and adapted to be forcibly pressed into the socket bore 11 in the handle, and'at the end of the sleeve 22 are spaced longitudinal extending prongs 24 of dovetailed cross section which are forced into the material o'f the handle at the shouldered bottom 12 of the bore 11.
The sleeve 22 when Iforced into the handle, tends to condense its wooden bers bythe pressure exerted, within the limits of the ferrule 14.
In the outer extending end of the sleeve 221s a slot 25 adapted to engage the body of the stud 20 and the sleeve at both sides. of the slot, is concavely formed to receive the corresponding portion 21' of the nut when manually turned to engage therein, thus locking-the shank of the of its ad-r iusted positions.
The seat 26 receives the nut securely, thereby retaining the tool shank in either of its adjusted positionsrand also permits other tools similarly. provided with collars, studs and nuts to be sub- As 'indicated in Figure. 10, the shank of the implement may be polygonalas at 15'-, on which is secured a ferrule. 19' by electric welding or other eective means,4 and thev sleeve 22' is used withoutV prongs or knurling wherein 'it diii'err y from the sleeve'shown in Figure 4.- Figure 10 ist/a transverse sectional view, similar l.V A screw driver comprising ahandle having an axial bore ending lin a'shoulder and a hollow chamber therebeyond. a sleeve tight fitted to said bore, prongs having parallel edges extending in spaced relation from the inner end of saidsleeve, said prongs being forced into said l1 shoulder, means on said sleeve to prevent rotation in said bore, said sleeve having a longitudinal slot in its outer end, a shank having dii'- ferent sized blade nibs on its opposite ends, said shank being knurled at its central portion and provided with a notch, a collar forced over the knurled portion, a screw stud set in said collar, the inner end of said stud engaging in said notch, said stud being receivable in the slot oi' said sleeve when the collar is entered therein', a thumb -nut on said stud to clamp said sleeve, and means to retain said nut on the sleeve, either of said blade nibs being entrable within -said chamber ywhen the other is operatively extended.
