LL-6 ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 14,1933
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
`The present invention relates to mop soaking and wringing apparatus and an object thereof is to provide a construction which may be arranged in a permanent position on the floor of a building so as to dispense with the usual'portable soaking pail or receptacle and mop wringer. Another object of the invention is to provide a mop wringer with a water supply and drain whereby the mop may be rinsed and soaked while in the wringer.
To these and other ends, the invention consists of parts all of which will' be hereinafter described; the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section through a mop soaking and wringing apparatus constructed in accordance with this invention; and
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2, Fig. 1.
Modern housekeeping is seeking labor saving devices in all its duties, but apparatus for soaking and wringing mops have prior to this invention not advanced any further than a portable pail with a mop wringer attached thereto.
According to this invention a soaking receptacle is a permanent part of the building and the wringing and cleaning of a mop may beeffected in the receptacle.
In carrying out the inventionY there is employed a receptacle 1 which has at its top a supporting means such as a flange 2 by which the receptacle may be supported in a pendant position within an opening of the floor 3 of the building. A removable cover 4 may be placed over the receptacle Y when the latter is not in use.
The receptacle-in this instance, has imperforate side walls taperingV downwardly to a discharge pipe 5 which may through a suitable trap be connected to the sewerage system of the building. The imperforate tapering side walls are provided with an annular series of ribs 6. This construction constitutes a mop soaking and wringing device having a body section that provides a downwardly-tapering Afunnel-shaped mop-squeezing chamber having a discharge opening leading from the squeezing chamber. f y
For soaking or wetting the mop, there is provided a water supply which discharges water into the receptacle below the top and'at the side of the receptacle. In this instance, this water supply comprises a nozzle '7 projecting through the side wall of the receptacle below the top and leading from a suitable supply piping 8 which is provided above the flooring with a manually controlable valve 9, the piping'preferably being situated in the partition 10 of a building and the handle of the valve being exposed on the outside of the partition in the room in which the receptacle is arranged.
In use the top 4 is removed and the valve 9 opened to supply water to the receptacle 1. The usual mop is placed in the receptacle and is soaked by water from the water supply. The wringing of the mop is eiected by pressing it downwardly into the tapered portion and turning the same so that the mop is caused to ride over the ribs 6.
The flange 2 is flush with the linoleum or floor covering 3a or with the floor, so that water on the iioor may be moved by the mop to the receptacle and in this way the latter will act as a oor drain.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A mop washing and wringing device having in combination means for securing the device in place, a body section carried by the securing means and providing a downwardly-tapering funnel-shaped mop-squeezing chamber having a drain opening leading from the squeezing chamber, and flushing means whereby water for flushing and rinsing the mop can be delivered into the upper portion of the body section.
2. A mop washing` and wringing device having a horizontally extending supporting flange, a body section depending from and carried by the supporting flange, which body section provides a downwardly-tapering funnel-shaped mopsqueezing chamber and has a discharge opening leading from the lower portion of the squeezing chamber, and ushing means whereby Water can be supplied to the upper portion of the squeezing chamber. Y
3. A mop washing and wringing device having `in combination a body section providing a downwardly-tapering funnel-shaped mop-squeezing chamber that is interiorly provided with a series of projecting members for facilitating the wringing of a mop, a supporting flange extending outwardly from the upper portion of the body section, means providing a discharge opening leading from the lower portion of the mop squeezing chamber and providing for a connection to a sewerage discharge pipe, flushing means whereby water can be supplied to the upper interior portion of the body section, and a removable fiat cover having a depending flange tting into the top of the body section and having a portion extending outwardly from the depending flange over and in Contact with the top of the supporting flange.
