This invention relates to improved fishhook holder in the form of a box or container including a removable inner tray and a removable cover, both of which are formed with apertured fishhook receiving plates or flanges and with shiftably mounted latching springs for removably receiving the gut leaders of snelled fishhooks, said cover adapted to have the hook sup porting end thereof moved into locking engagement with a retaining flange or head formed on one end of the box or container which serves to lock the hooks against removal when the cover is in closed position; i

It is an object of this invention to provide an improved fishhook holder of simplified and inexpensive construction constructed to carry hooks in the interior and on the exterior thereof with the exterior hooks adapted to be locked in position against removal by means of a hood flange forming part of the container of the holder and adapted to seat against the hook supporting end of the cover when the cover is in closed position on the body of the device. 7

It is also an object of this invention to provide a fishhook holder in the form of a container having a slidable cover provided with an apertured hook receiving member at one end and with a resilient gut leader device on the opposite end of the cover, said cover adapted to be moved into closed position to cause the fishhook member to be brought into contact with a retaining hood or flange forming a part of the container and adapted to be locked with the cover by means of a supporting bail which serves as a means for suspending the fishhook holder from a belt hook in addition to acting as a locking means for looking the cover in closed position to the retaining hood or flange of the container.

It is an important object of this invention to provide an improved typeof fishhook holder in the form of a box having a slidable cover formed at one end to receive a plurality of fishhooks which are adapted to be locked against removal from the cover when the cover is in closed position and is in coacting engagement with a retaining member formed on the box, said cover and box adapted to be locked against relative movement with respect to one another by means of a bail member adapted to be removably engaged on a carrying hook constructed to be engaged on the belt of a person desiring to carry the fishhook holder.

The supporting hook device is provided for the purpose of permitting the improved fish hook holder to be suspended from a fishermans belt. The improved fishhook holder comprises a container or box 5 having side flanges 6 integrally formed on the longitudinal margins of the open top thereof. One end of the box 5 is bent outwardly at right angles to form a fiap or tail piece 7 provided with an upwardly projecting detcnt or latching nib 8. The opposite end of the box 5 is provided with an integral extension which is bent outwardly to provide a neck plate 9 and a T-head plate 10 which is adapted to serve as a resilient retaining or locking plate or flange for locking fishhooks in position on the cover of the device as hereinafter more fully described.

Attached to the shank 18 of each of the snelled fishhooks 1'? is a gut leader 19 which' hangs or projects over the top surface of the cover 11 and is adapted to be removably clamped or retained in a taut or stretched position between the-clamping loops or convolutions of a coiled retaining spring 20. The ends of the coil spring-20 are bent outwardly to project in opposite directions to form arms or extension members 21 which frictionally seat against the top surface of the cover 11 and hold the spring 20 against rotati n. The clamping spring 20 is shiftably mounte on a U-shaped guide rail or bar 22, the 'ends of which project through openings in the cover 11 and are swaged or riveted to securely hold the guide rail 22 in position.

Slidably mounted on the hook supporting end of the cover 11 is a hanger or bail 23, the ends of which are bent to form hooks which engage beneath the shoulder 14-. The middle portion of the bail or hanger 23 is deflected outwardly to provide a loop or handle 24 to permit the bail to be engaged on the hook 4 of the supporting loop 2.

If desired, the interior of the box 5 may be equipped with a flshhook carrying tray of the removable type. The removable tray comprises a base plate 25, both ends of which are bent upwardly and then inwardly and downwardly to provide fishhcok supporting aprons or plates 25. The looped portion of the flshliook supporting aprons .265 are provided with a plurality of spaced fishhook receiving slots 27 for removably receiving the tip ends of a plurality of small snelled fishhooks or fly hooks 28 each of which is provided with a shank 29 to which a gut leader '30 is attached. The gut leaders 30 extend in opposite directions and are adapted to be removably clamped between the coils or convolutions ofa coil spring '51 the ends of which are bent outwardly to provide legs or extensions32 which rest against the top surface of the base plate 25 to 7 The removable flshhook carrying tray is adapted to be seated in the box 5, and when in position may be used as a shield for protecting the fishermans license card which may be placed in the bottom of the box beneath the base plate 25 of the tray. It will be noted that when a plurality of flyhooks 28 are engaged in the hook receiving slots 2'! of the tray aprons or hook supporting plates 26 said hooks may be retained in place by engaging the gut leaders 3%) between the convolutions of the retaining spring 31 as clearly illustrated in Figure 5. ,When the tray is positioned within the box 5 it will be noted that the ends of the box 5 act as a retaining or locking means for preventing removal of the hooks 28 J in the hook receiving slots 27, and the gut leaders the convolutions of the coiled lockingor retaining spring 20; With the hooks in position as described," the cover is slidably pushed'into the closed full line position illustrated in Figure 4 with the shoulder l contacting or seating beneath the locking flange or hood '10, thereby holding the hooks 1? locked in position against removal. The bail or supporting loop 23 is'in the dotted line positionillustrated in Figure 4 and may now be moved upwardly into the full line position to engage around the ends of the shoulder 14 and over the hood or retaining flange 10 to lock the cover and box 5 together. The bail 23 on which the fishhook holder is supported may now be engaged on the belt hook 4, the loop 2 of which is adapted to be engaged on a fishermans belt 1 as indicated in Figure 1. It will thus be noted that the bail 23 not only acts as a supporting member for the fishhook box and cover but also serves as a locking means for holding the cover locked when in closed position so that removal of the hooks 17 from the cover is entirely obviated.

When the cover 11 is moved into closed position, the latching aperture or opening 12 is adapted to be positioned to permit the detent 8 to resiliently snap into the aperture to hold the cover 11 locked in closed position. The detent 8 during the slidable opening and closing of the cover 11 is adapted to frictionally contact the lower surface of the cover thereby acting to prevent the cover from accidentally sliding off ofthe box in case the locking bail 23 should happen to be positioned in thedotted line position illustratedin Figure 4.

5. A fishhook holder comprising a box, a cover movably mounted thereon, a slotted fishhook' holder formed on one end of said cover for receiving a plurality'of snelled fishhooks engaged therein, retainingmeans on said cover for remov ably receiving'the gut leaders of the fishhooks, a hood member formed on one end of said box contactable by the fishhook supporting means of the cover when the cover is in closed position to hold the fishhooks locked against removal, and a supporting means for carrying the fishhook holder, said supporting means also serving as a locking means to hold the cover locked in closed position against movement with respect to the box.

A fishhook holder comprising a box, a cover mounted on said box and formed to removably support a plurality of snelled fishhooks in stretched position on the exterior thereof, and means formed on the box to be engaged by the cover when the cover is in closed position to lock the fishhooks against removal from said cover.

A fishhook holder comprising a box, a cover mounted thereon and having one end thereof looped over the exterior of the cover and slotted to receive the tip ends of snelled fishhooks removably engaged therein, a coiled member shiftably supported on the cover for receiving the gut leaders of the snelled fishhooks removably engaged therein, a hood member formed on one end of the box and positioned to be contacted by the rolled end of the cover when the cover is in closed position, said hood member acting as a locking said fishhook carrier for removably receiving the gut leaders of the fishhooks, means on said box to coact with the fishhook carrier for holding the j fishhooks locked in position against removal, a supporting device, and a bail member removably engaged on the supporting device and coacting with the 'fishhook carrier and said retaining means for holding the fishhook carrier and said retaining means locked with respect to one another.

10. A fishhook holder comprising a box, a fishhook carrier removably engaged therewith, means on said box for locking the fishhooks against removal from said carrier and a second locking means serving as a supporting means for the fishhook holder and also serving as a means for looking the fishhook carrier against movement with respect to the box.

11. A fishhook holder comprising a box, a fishhook carrier removably engaged with said box,
