This invention relates to improvements in an automobile hood bracket lamp, and more par-' ticularly to an adjustable lamp bracket adapted to be attached to the dash board or other convenient place so that the light will be above the engine.
The object of the invention is to provide an adjustable bracket for holding an electric lamp bulb suspended above the engine of the class shown in my application patented May 10, 1932, No. 1,858,232, the present application being a more simplified form, and less expensive to manufacture. I
Another object of the invention is to provide in weight, but of increased strength.
Another object is to provide a simple fric+ tional means to hold the lamp arm in adjusted positions.
Other objects will appear to those skilled in the art as the description progresses.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which the same larged.
The numeral 1 indicates an arm adapted to swing on the bracket 2 by means of the flat disk 3 on the arm and the disk 4 on the bracket. The disks are heldtogether by the rivet 6. A reflector 7 is formed on the end of the arm which is a tube and provides a socket for the electric lamp. A switch 9 of suitable make is provided to turn on or off the lamp which has the connecting wires 5. The vertical portion 10 of the bracket 2 is provided with holes 11 for is an enlarged view of a portion of. the bracket partly in section, and somewhat en-' securing the bracket in place by means of bolts.
Means for holding the arm in the adjusted positions is shown in detail in Figure 4 in which the ball 16 is held against the arm disk by the spring 17 which in turn is held by the cap 18 threaded in an opening in the lower disk. The pressure of the ball against the smooth surface of the disk adds to the friction to hold the arm in any adjusted position.
Having thus described my invention what I desire to secure byLetters Patent, of the United States is as follows, but modifications may be had in carrying .out the invention as shown in the drawingv and particularly described form within the purview of the annexed claims.
I claim:
1. An automobile hood lamp of the class described comprising a right angle bracket having a flat disk inone end, and the edges of the bracket turned down, a tubular arm havinga reflector and a lamp socket on one end, and a flat-disk on the other, means to pivot said disks together, a threaded cap in one of said disks, adapted to cover an opening therein, a ball in said cap, a spring adapted to press said ball against the other disk to frictionally hold said tubular arm in adjusted positions.
2. An automobile hood lamp bracket of the class described comprising a right angled bracket having a disk formed on one end thereof, the side edges of said bracket being turned in, a
tubular arm having a reflector and an electric I tionally hold said tubular arm in adjusted positions, and electric wires leading through said tubular arm to the electric lamp.
