Claims.
This invention 'relates to a spinning frame, more particularly to the tensioning of the rolls of the same, and has for its object to provide an arrangement whereby the upper roll of the back pair of rolls may be tensioned by a suspending weight. g
Another object of the invention is a provision of'tensioning means which will permit ready access to the intermediate roll for removal thereof when desired.
Another object of the invention is a provision of a tensioning'means by which the rolls may be run with their axes in close adjacency for long draft spinning.
A further object of the invention is the arrangement of tensioning means for the upper roll of the back pair of rolls which will act upon one, two or more back rolls of this group at the same time.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of means whereby a weight acting upon back rolls of two or more groups may be disconnected from the back roll of one of said groups and still function on the back roll'of the other group.
' With these and other objects and advantageous features inview, the invention consists of a novel arrangement of parts more fully disclosed in the detailed description following, in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, and more particularly set forth in the appended claims.

Fig. 5 is a perspective View of one of the weights. Patents on my previous invention for spinning frames have'illustrated means for tensioning the rolls. In Patent No. 1,783,301 a rod extends through the rollsand is tensioned by leverage and weight connection thereto. This patent also discloses tensioning the back draft breaker roll by increasing the weight of the roll as by enlarging the diameter, while in Patent No. 1,721,028, dated July 16, 1929, I tension by supplying an additional roll or weight resting upon and having rolling contact with the surface of one of the rolls to be tensioned. Each of these different types of tensioning which are disclosed in my prior patents have certain disadvantages. The rod extending through the rolls and operating upon a saddle engaging the front and back rolls prevents access to the intermediate roll and must be removed in order to permit removal of the inter- 0 mediate r011, also frequently, the use of this construction causes damage to thesurface of one of the rolls. The enlargement of the roll itself prevents moving the axes of the rolls closely togetherfor long draft purposes, which isalso an objection to the use of an additional weight roll engaging the surface of one of the rolls. In order to avoid all these disadvantages, I have arranged to suspend a weight from both the upper roll of the front pair and the upper roll of the back pair of each group of rolls, and have staggered the weights of the front and back pair to permit of such weighting; and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of this invention illustrating the preferred means by which these advantageous results may be accomplished. With reference to the drawings, 10 designates a supporting structure of a spinning frame upon whichidentical units 11 and 12 are mounted back to back by means of pedestals 13 and 14; As each of theunits is identical a description of one will suffice for both. Draft rolls are provided consisting of front pairs of rolls 15 and 16,. inter mediate pairs of rolls 17 and 18, and back pairs of rolls 19 and 20; There, is also provided on each frame breaker draft rolls, the lower of which is designated 21 and the upper 22. The
lower draft rolls are thedriven rolls and a shaft of some length is provided with fluted or corrugated portions 23 at spaced intervals along its length with portions 24 of lesser diameter therebetween. Thev upper draft rolls are each of a length to extend over two corrugated portions of the lower roll and are provided with a reduced portion 25 registering with the portion 24 of the lower roll. (See Fig. 2.) The bearings 26 for the upper rolls are arranged over alternate portions 24 of the lower roll. Although the reference characters designate portions of the back pair of rolls it will be understood that the intermediate and front pairs of rolls aresimilarly constructed and arranged. Thus the upper rolls are arranged in groups of separate upper rolls each accommodating two strands of yarn or roving. Which groups I will designate in Fig. 3 for convenience as A and B. To tension the rollsI apply pressure on the upperrolls. A hanger 2'7 is suspended from the reduced portion of each of the front rolls, and a weight 28 extending between the two units is attached to the hangers 27 by means of 10 the links 29 and thus pressure is applied to the upper rolls of the units by a weight 28 common to both. In a similar manner the upper roll of the front pair of rolls of the next group are tensioned and so on.
To tension the back rolls of the spinning units, hangers 30 are connected to the upper roll of the back pair of each of the two groups of rolls A and B by engagement with the reduced portion thereof. A yoke 31 connects the hangers of groups A and B, and from each of these yokes, hooks 32 depend to receive the weight 33 extending between the two for applying pressure to the back rolls of each of two groups of back rolls.

Should I desire to remove the back roll 'of the frame 11, I may lift one of the hangers 30 from place and rest one end of the yoke 31' in a notch 34 provided in the block 35 on the supportlfl without displacing the other hanger '30 on the next group of rolls and thus permitting them to run and be weighted through'its hanger 30, yoke 31 supported in the notch 34, link 32 and weight By this arrangement the rolls may be of small diameter and run with their surfaces in close adjacency for long draft and'the intermediate roll 17 maybe removed without displacing the tensioning means The foregoing. description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege ofresorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a spinning frame groups of aligned front and back pairs of draft rolls, independent means below said frame elongated in a horizontal plane and at right angles to the'axis of said rolls for weighting the upper rolls of each front pair of rolls and 'means independent of the front weighting means and located between two front weighting means and below the frame for weighting the upper rolls of the back'pairs of draft rolls.
2. Ina spinning frame groups of aligned front' and back pairs of draft rolls, independent means below said frame andextending at right angles to the axis of said rolls for weighting the upper rolls of each front pair of rolls and meansindependent of the front weighting means and located between two front weighting means and parallel thereto and below the frame, and means for distributing its weight between the upper rolls of two pairs of co-axial draft rolls;
3. In a spinning frame groups of aligned front and back pairs of draft rolls, independent means below said frame for weighting the upper rolls of each front pair of rolls, a yoke, means for connecting said yoke to two pairs of back rolls and a weight suspended from said yoke for weighting said back rolls.
4. In a spinning frame groups of aligned front and back pairs of draft rolls,- independent means below said frame for weighting the upper rolls of each front pair of rolls, a yoke, means for connecting said yoke to two pairs of back rolls and a weight suspended from said yoke and located between the weighting means for'the upper pairs of front rolls. I
5. In combination a pair of spinning units, each having groups of aligned front and back pairs of draft rolls, common weighting means for applying pressure to the upper rolls of a pair of front rolls on each spinning unit and weighting means in a vertical plane spaced from the plane of said common weighting means for applying pressure to the upper roll of a pair of back rolls on each spinning unit.
6. In combination a pair of spinning units each having groups of aligned front and back pairs of draft rolls, common weighting means for applying pressure to the upper rolls of a pair of front rolls on each spirming unit and a yoke, means for connecting said yoke to the pair of back rolls On each frame and a common weight extending between said yokes for weighting said back rolls.

In combination a pair of spinning units, each having groups of aligned front and back pairs of draft rolls, a hanger depending from each pair of front and back rolls, a weight connected to each hanger of the front rolls and extending between twohangers from different units, ayoke connecting each pair of hangers from theback rolls and a weight connected to each yoke and extending'betiveen two yokes one on each unit and located between the weights. of the front rolls and in substantially'the same horizontal plane.
10. In combination, a pair'of spinning units, each having groups of aligned front and back pairs of-draft rolls, independent common weighting .means locatedbelow the frame for applying pressure to the upper roll of each front pair of rolls of each unit, and means independent of the front weighting means and located between the front weighting means and below the frame for applying pressure on the upper roll of the back pair of rolls of each unit, the axes of said weighting means being parallel and at right angles to the axis of said rolls.
11. In combination, a pair ofv spinning units, ea'chhaving groups of aligned front and back pairs of draft rolls, common weighting means for applying pressureto the upper rolls of a pair of front rolls on' each spinning unit, and means independent of the front weighting means located in the horizontal plane with and between the weighting means for the front rolls and below the frames for applying pressure to the upper rolls' of the back pairs of draft rolls on each spinning unit. 1
12. In a spinning frame, groups of aligned front and back pairs of draft rolls, independent weighting means below said frame elongated in a horizontal plane with the major axis of each member in a plane at right angles to the plane of the front rolls for weighting the upper rolls of each front pair of rolls, and means independent of the front weighting means located between the front weighting means and below the frame for weighting the upper rolls of the back pairs of draft rolls, the axes of said weighting means being parallel.
13. In a spinning frame, groups of aligned back and front pairs of draft rolls, independent means below said frame for weighting the upper rolls of each front pair of rolls,a weight independent of the front weighting means, and means having a single point of attachment to said weight for equally distributing the pressure of said weight between the upper rolls of two pairs of co-axial draft rolls, the axes of said weighting means being parallel.
14. In a spinning frame, groups of aligned front and back pairs of draft rolls, independent means below said frame for weighting the upper rolls of each front pair of rolls, a weight independent of the front weighting means and means having a single point of attachment to said weight for equally distributing the pressure of said weight between the upper rolls of two pairs of co-axial draft rolls, the axes of said weighting means being parallel.
15. In a spinning frame, groups of front and back pairs of draft rolls, weights for weighting the front and back draft rolls, means having a single point of attachment to one of said weights and connected to the upper rolls of two pairs of co-axial draft rolls for distributing the pull thereof equally between them, the axes of saidweights being parallel.
