The invention is a device for causing a rapid circulation of air through a breeder to eliminate moisture, which operates by a means for producing heat in a vertical pipe, so that air will pass upward in the pipe, and as the lower end of the pipe is connected to the exterior and the upper end opens into the interior, it will circulate the air from the outside through the interior, thereby providing a continuous supply of fresh air within the brooder.
The object of the invention is to provide means for eliminating moisture in a brooder by causing a continuous circulation of fresh air through the breeder.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for causing a circulation of air in a brooder without the use of moving parts.
Another object of the invention is to provide a platform having an open space in the interior thereof upon which a brooder may be placed to insulate the interior of the brooder which, in combination with the fresh air circulating device, makes it possible to obtain a dry even temperature.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for causing a continuous circulation of air in a brooder which provides a supply of warm fresh air.
And a still further object of the invention is to provide means for causing a continuous circulation of fresh air in a brooder which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these ends in view the invention embodies a platform having an opening in the interior thereof upon which the brcoder is mounted, a tubular member in the center of the said platform, a heating element in the said tubular member, an air duct leading from the lower end of the tubular member to the exterior, a ventilating tube in the center of the said brooder with adjustable openings at the upper end, an electric heating element in the under side of the said brooder, and
automatic means for regulating the temperature f the said brooder.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description, taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side view of the device.
Figure 2 is a cross section through the fresh air circulating device.
Figure 3 is a view showing the under side of the hood.
Figure 4 is a view showing the automatic regulating device.
In the drawing the device is shown as it would be made wherein numeral 1 indicates the body of the brooder, numeral 2 the automatic regulating device, and numeral 3 the fresh air circulating device.
The brooder 1 may be of suitable type or design and may be arranged in any suitable manner. In the design shown it is mounted upon a platform 4 which is formed with a top 5, a bottom 6, and side walls 7, thereby leaving the entire interior open except for an air duct 3 which leads from the outer edge to the f esh air circulating device 2. The upper part of the brooder is made as shown in Figure 2 with a partition 9 upon which the heating element 10, which extends completely around the brooder as shown in Figure 3, is mounted as shown, and is supported on legs 11, as shown. The entire inner surface may be covered with a sheet of asbestos, as indicated by the numeral 12. The hood is provided with a vertical tube 13 which extends from the point 14 upward through the center, so that it projects beyond the top of the hood, and is provided with a cap 15, having openings 16 therein, which correspond to a similar opening 1'7 in the top of the tube. It will be observed that the amount of air passing out of the brooder through the tube 13 maybe readily regulated by turning the cap 15. The heating element is completely covered by a screen as indicated by the numeral 18 and a portion of the screen extends over the device 2, as shown in Figure 3, to thoroughly cover and protect the heating element and regulating device.
The regulating device 2 is formed, as shown in Figure 4, with a horizontal bar 19, having a contact point 20 on the end thereof, which may engage another contact point 21 to complete a circuit through wires 22 and 23 as shown. The bar 19 is provided with an adjusting screw 24 which will rest upon a diaphragm 25 which is so arranged that as the temperature rises above a predetermined degree the diaphragm will raise the bar 19 and break the circuit to the heating element; and as soon as the temperature drops to this point the circuit will be again completed. It is understood that the automatic device and the heating element may be connected in any suitable manner. A pilot light 26, as shown, may also be provided and connected in the circuit to indicate when the current is on or off. Wires leading from the automatic regulating device may be provided with a cord tap or cut-in plug,.as indicated by the numeral 27, so that wires 28 leading to the fresh air circulating device 3 may be connected in the same circuit. The outer surface of the brooder may be provided with a skirt 29 and a thermometer 30 may also be provided to indicate the temperature of the brooder.
The fresh air circulating device 3 is formed with the air duct 8, the outer end of which may be covered with a screen 31, and at the inner end of the air duct is a vertical tube 32 which extends upward through the top of the platform to a point 33. On the interior of the tube 32 is a heating element 3% with a small light 35 made therein, and the element may be mounted upon a base 36 and connected to the tap 2'7 through wires 28 as shown. A screen 35 may be provided in the upper end of the tube 32, and the tube may be covered with asbestos. It will be observed that the light 35 will provide a light on the interior of the brooder which will attract the chicks, or the like, and lead them into the brooder after dark. This light is very small and, therefore, provides a very dim light in the brooder.
It will be understood that other changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit oi the invention. One of which changes may he in the use of a lamp, or any suitable device, in place of the element as. Another may be in the use of a heating element, or regulating device of any other type, for the said brooder, another be in the use of a brooder with another type of platform. And still another may be in the use of other means for connecting the various parts of the said device.
The construction will readily understood from the foregoing description. To use the device it be asserfioled as shown, and it will be observed that when the current is turned on the element 34 will heat the air in the tube 32, and thereby cause the air to rise, so that it will draw in fresh air through the duct 8, and thereby provide a continuous supply of fresh air to the interior of the brooder. This device, therefore, provides a very efiicient means of providing a continuous supply of fresh air within a brooder and utilizing the same heat that causes the circulation to raise the temperature of the fresh air entering the device.
Having thus fully described the invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a brooder of the type having a low conical shaped hood with a guarded heating element in the upper part thereof and a depending skirt around the outer edge, a platform somewhat larger than said hood for supporting the same having an enclosed chamber therein, a cylinder in the center of said platform extending up into said hood, said platform having a passage extending through the chamber therein connecting the lower end of said cylinder to the atmosphere at the outer edge of said platform, a heating element in said cylinder causing a circulation of air through said connecting passage to the interior of said hood, and an adjustable ventilator in said hood positioned directly above said cylinder.
2. In a brooder of the type having a circular hood with a depending skirt around the outer edge, a heating element in said hood and in close proximity to said skirt, a false bottom above said heating element positioned slightly above the height of chicks to hold the heat around the chicks, a U shaped guard attached to said false bottom and enclosing said heating element, a platform having a double floor with an enclosed space therehetween upon which said brooder rests, a vertical cylinder in the center of said floor, said cylinder having a passage through the floor from the lower end thereof to the exterior, and a heating device in said cylinder for causing a circulation therethrough.
3. In a brooder of the type having a raised heated hood with a depending skirt around the outer edge, a platform with a double floor under said hood, said space between the floors being enclosed, a vertical cylinder in said platform extending up into said hood, said cylinder having a passage connecting the lower end thereof to the exterior of the platform through the interior thereof, and a heating element in said cylinder for causing a circulation therethrough drawing fresh air through the passage and discharging it into the hood.
