I am aware of the fact that various styles and forms of honing stones and concaved glass bodies and the like have been utilized for sharpening the cutting edges of razorblades. T I
In carrying the present inventive conception into practice, I have evolved and produced a novel and practicable glass base embodying a half-cylinder and constructed to accommodate a pendulous operating lever provided with means to aid in holding the blade firmly in positionfor effective results.
Stated more explicitly, I have discovered a simple and economical structure including a rockably mounted blade holder which systematically and uniformly coacts with the blade in maintaining the blade firmly in abrading contact with the concaved honing surface in order that the blade will be swept back and forth in a definite regular path so that the edges will be refined and reconditioned accurately and uniformly for more favorable shaving results.
Frequently in devices of this type the blade is moved by one hand of the operator, sometimes in a circular direction, and other times in a predetermined straight path. Manifestly, however, in the hands of an inexperienced person, the results obtained from this method of sharpening are unsatisfactory indeed.
The principal purpose of the present invention is to provide areliable and carefully perfected structure which will accomplish the desired results in a safe, positive and practicable manner.

The holding and actuating devicefor-the safety razor blade 15 is designated 'as a unit by the numeral 16 and this comprises a lever whichincludes a stem 1'7 having a vertically elongated slot 18 with the slotted portion arranged between the extremities 13 and the bolt 14 extending therethrough to provide the requisite pivotal connection. It will be observed that the pin and slot arrangement'permits the lever to be raised up and down to provide for requisitee'levation. The upper end of the stem is'provided with a knob 19 for convenient operation; The lower end of the stem is fashioned with an arcuate backing head orplate 20 on the underside of which is a corrugated rubber pad 21 which provides the requisite anti-slipping grip on the safety razor blade 15.
In practice, the blade is placed in position as depicted in Figures 2, 4, and 5. The anti-slipping rubber pad 21 is engaged with the blade, the ad- 9 justment being made through the medium of the pin and slot connection" of the actuating device 16 with said blade. Obviously, the bladeis sharpened by moving the lever back and forth in a pendulous manner until the blade is sharp on one face, then the blade is turned over with the fingers and the process is continued until the opposite face is sharp. A little warm water in the hone, which actually functions as a receptacle, will lessen the necessary to depend on the movements of the hand as the lever has a definite mechanical pendulous action which is positive in securing its results.
