This invention relates to new and useful improvements in razors and more particularly to razors of the safety type.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a safety razor having a special guard construction in the use of which beard will be guided toward the blade at an oblique angle so that the beard will wipe against the edge of the blade, resulting in a better cutting action than when the beard meets the blade edge from a right angular direction.
Another object of importance of the invention is to provide a guard for safety razors wherein the teeth of the guard are capable of being ad- 5 justed to various angular positions with respect to the blade with which the guard is used, this being especially practical for cutting various kinds of beard growths.
' Other objects reside in the provision of means whereby clogging space between the guard teeth and the blade is eliminated and wherein the frame of the razor is sufliciently ductile to permit adjusting and proper setting of the guard teeth assembled with respect to the blade.
Numerous other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.

Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the cap plate provided with the threaded shank 6 which is engaseable into the threaded socket 7 located in the tapering end 8 of the handle 9. The foregoing are conventional elements of a safety razor, although it is to be borne in mind that the specific shape of the handle 9 with its tapered end 8 has utility in the present invention.
The novel guard generally referred to by numeral 10 as shown in Fig. 5 has its frame constructed of a single sheet of metal. In considering Fig. 5, it can be seen that the U-shaped members 11-11 are bent upwardly as shown in Fig. 3 as are the side walls 12-12. It can be seen that when the side walls 12-12 have been bent upwardly and the upper flange 13 thereof bent inwardly, the frame is ready to have the teeth assembled therewith. The side walls 12 are provided with the lower flanges14 and both the upper and lower flanges 13 and 14 respective- 1y are provided with a plurality of corresponding openings 15. Extending vertically through the openings 15 of these flanges are the reduced shank". portions 16 of the teeth 17, the teeth 17 at the points where they merge with the shank portions 16 being provided with shoulders 18 for rest upon the upper flanges 13 in the manner substantially. shown in Fig. 3. The lower portion of each tooth 17 is provided with a laterally disposed crank-like portion 19- and a depending 89 pintle 20 at its extremity.
Again referring to the frame, it can be seen that the lower flanges 14 are connected by the cross members 2121 and it is obvious that in the event theteeth 17 are located too far inwardly of the cutting edges of the blade. 22, a screw driver or like instrument can be used to pry the side walls 12 slightly outwardly and obviously this carries with it the corresponding group of teeth.
Fig. 6 discloses a bridge piece consisting of a pair of elongated members 22 connected by cross members 23 at their ends, the elongated members 22 being in spaced relation and having notched portions 24 defining a passageway through which the threaded shank 6 of the cap plate 5 canextend and in the manner substantially shown in Fig. '3. The cross members 23-23 are soldered, welded, or otherwise secured to the bight portions ofthe U-shaped members 11-11 of the frame 10.
A pair of connecting bars. 25 are employed. each provided with a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings 26 and with a cavity 27 in one edge portion thereof.
As is clearly apparent in Fig. 3, there is a group of these teeth 17 on each side of the guard and the pintles 20 of each group extend downwardly to pass thru the openings 26 in the corresponding connecting bar 25.
In the use of the razor with this novel guard, itcanbes'een thattheteeth l'lareflrstsetto the proper angle with respect to the blade 22 while the handle 9 is loose on the cap plate screw 6. Now by tightening or screwing in the handle 9, the tapered portion 8 will ride against the concave portion 27 of the connecting bars 25-25 and in engaging the same will frictionally retain these bars against self-adjusting, thus re-' taining the teeth in a set predetermined angle with respect to the razor blade. (See Fig. 3.)
While the foregoing specification set forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be I derstood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention said connectorwhen the said handle is fed in-.

In combination, a razor comprising a handle, a cap plate, a guard frame, means between the cap plate and the handle for clamping a blade between the cap plate and the guard frame, and adjustable guard teeth on the said frame adjustable angularly with respect to the cutting edge of the blade and on substantially the same plane as the blade.
3. In eombination arazor comprising a handie, a cap plate, a guard frame, means between the cap plate and the handle for clamping a blade between the cap plate and the guard frame, adjustable guard teeth on the said frame, said teeth being each provided with a shaft-like shank rotatably disposed through the frame, and means whereby the said shaft-like shanks can be rotated.
4. In combination, a razor comprising a hendle, a cap plate, a guard frame, means between the cap plate and the handle for clamping a nector rcr frictionally blade between the cap plate and the guard frame, adjustable guard teeth on the said frame, said teeth being each provided with a shaft-like shank rotatably disposed through the frame, means whereby the said shaft-like shanks can be rotated, simultaneously.
5. In combination, a razor comprising a handie, acap plate, a guard frame, means between the cap plate and the handle for clamping a blade between the cap plate and the guard frame, adjustable guard teeth on the said said teeth being each provided with a shaft-like shank rotatably disposed through the frame, means whereby the said shaft-like shanks can be rotated simultaneously, said means comprising a crank extension on each of the said shanks and a connector between the said extensions.
6. In combination, a razor comprising a bandle, a cap plate, a guard frame, means between the cap plate and the handle for clamping a blade between the cap plate and the guard frame, adjustable guard teeth on the said frame, said teeth being each provided with a shaft-like shank, I07 tatably disposed through the frame, means whereby the said shaft-like shanks can be rotated simultaneously, said means comprising a crank extension on each of the said shanks and a connector between the said and means for retaining the connector and the associated teeth in adjusted position.
7. In combination, a razor comprising a bandle, a cap plate, a guard frame, means between the cap plate and the handle for clamping a blade between the cap plate and the guard frame, adjustable guard teeth on the said frame, said teeth being each provided with a shaft-like shank, rotatabl r disposed through the frame, means whereby the said shaft-like shanks can be rotated simultaneously, said means comprising a crankextensiononeachoi'the saidshanksand a connector between the said extensions, means for retaining the connector and the associated teeth in adjusted position, said means consisting of a taper on the handle ridable and retaining the connector againstselfmotion.
