3 Claims.
The present invention pertains to a novel dish washing machine for washing, cleaning, and polishing or buiiing various kinds of dishes, being particularly adapted for washing drinking glasses or tumblers.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a dish Washing machine which facilitates the washing of a large volume of drinking glasses or tumblers in a limited amount of time and which thereby avoids congestion and delay in the service of meals in such places as restaurants, dining rooms and hotels wherein the business is confined to certain rush hours. The machine includes a motor driven brush constructed to engage both the inside and outside of the drinking glass, the brush` and motor being supported above a tank containing a suitable cleansing iiuid. The motor also drives a fluid pressure pump which pumps the fluid from the and forces it upwardly to a spray head, the latter being designed and located so that the `lrinking glass that is inserted between the bristles oi the brush may be thoroughly cleaned or washed.
With the above and other ends in View the invention consists in matter hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a cross sectional side elevation, illustrating the present washing machine in combination with a fluid containing tank, and
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View of the brush that is employed for cleaning the glasses.
Like characters of reference are employed throughout to designate corresponding parts.
The numeral 1 indicates a tank, such as a dish washing sink, filled with a suitable cleansing fluid 2. Secured in any suitable manner to the 40 rear face of the receptacle is an upright or vertical support 3 having a horizontal table 4 secured to the upper end thereof by means of brackets 5. Mounted upon the table 4 is an electric motor 6.
Supported in the forward end of the table 4 so that it is located in approximately the center of the tank and a short distance above the same is a vertical shaft 7 having its upperY end received in a gear box 8. Within the gear box 8 and keyed .50 on the shaft 7 is a bevelled gear 9 which meshes with the bevelled gear 10 that is keyed on the end of the horizontally extending drive shaft 11 that is connected to the motor 6 so as to be driven thereby.
The lower end of the shaft 7 projects downwardly from the table 4 and has a brush mounted upon its lower extremity, the brush being mounted upon a ring 12 having a set screw 13Y for securing it to the shaft 7 so that it is rmly secured thereon. Projecting downwardly concentric with said shaft 7 and ring 12 is a center post 14 having a series of bristles 15 projecting outwardly in a radial manner relative thereto. Wire like supporting members 16 have their upper ends secured in said ring and extendv'outwardly and are bent downwardly to supportv a ring 17 having brush bristles 18 mounted thereon to extend outwardly and inwardly in a substantially radial relation to said ring.
Connected into the rear Wall adjacent the bottom of the tank 1 is a pipe 19 that provides communication between said tank and a fluid pump 20. The specific construction of the pump forms no important factor in the present invention, it being any gear or lobe pump that may be purchased on the market to ll the requirements# The pump 20 is connected to the vertically extending shaft 21 that has its upper end received in the gear box 22, a bevelled gear 23 being keyed on the upper end thereof to mesh with a similar bevelled gear 24 that is keyed on the drive shaft"-v 25 Which is connected to the motor 6 and driven thereby.
The outlet of the pump 20 is connected by a pipe line 26 to a spray head 27 having a series of .per- 85 forations 28 in its bottom wall. The spray head preferably surrounds the shaft 7 in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1 for a purpose which will become apparent as the operation of the present device is described. 0
As the motor 6 is operated it rotates the shaft 11 and the gear 10 thereon rotates the gear 9 and causes rotation of the shaft 7 and the brush that is mounted thereon. At the same time the shaft 25 rotates the gears 24 and 23 and the shaft 21 95 which operates the pump 20 so that cleansing l' fluid is pumped from the tank 1 through the line 26 to the spray head 27 from which the fluid is sprayed through the perforations 28 onto the 100 brush. In washing the drinking glass the latter i: is inserted into the brushso that the bristles 15 engage its inner surface While the bristles 18 engage its outer surface.
It is apparent that the speed at which the brush rotates may be varied by changing the gear ratio of the gears 9 and 10 and the volume of liquid that is forced through the spray head may be varied by changing the gear ratio of the gears 23 and 24. tained therein to be operated in a suitable lubricant bath.
The brush illustrated is of a type particularly adapted for washing drinking glasses or tumblers in the manner described but the manner in which it is attached by the ring 12 and set screw 13 to the shaft 7 readily permits the attachment of a differently vshaped brush that will facilitate the washing of various other types of dishes.
When the device is being used for washing drinking glasses the centrifugal force set up by the rotation of the brush causes the water to 'be thrown outwardly and for this reason the present invention provides a screen 29 that prevents the water from being thrown outwardly. When it is desired to use a different kind of brush, as for bufting dishes and there is no necessity for spraying Water onto the brush the water from the pump may beby-passed back to the tank through the by-pass line 30 that is controlled by the valve 31.
Although a specific embodiment of the present invention has been illustrated and described it is to be understood that various changes may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention, and such changes are contemplated.
What I claim is: l
1. The combination with a tank adapted to con tain a cleansing fluid, a vertically extending shaft supported above said tank, a brush mounted on the lower end of said shaft, -a spray element surrounding said shaft above said brush in a manner whereby fluid may be projected onto all of said brush at one time, a fluid pump connected to the interior ofsaid tank and to said spray element, and a motor connected to said vertical shaft and to said fluid pump and adapted torotate the same.
2. A washing machine comprising a tank for containing cleansing fluid, a vertical member rigidly secured to the outside of said tank, a horizontal table supported by said vertical member, a uid pump supported by said vertical member, means for connecting said pump to the interior of said tank adjacent the bottom thereof, a vertically extending shaft supported by said table above said tank, a motor on said table, a brush on the lower end of said vertical shaft, a drive shaft in said motor geared to said vertically ex tending shaft, a second shaft geared to said motor shaft and extending downwardly to said pump, a ring shaped spray head surrounding said vertically extending shaft above said brush, and a pipe line connecting said fluid pump to said spray head.
A washing machine of the character described comprising a tank containing cleansing fluid, a vertical member secured to the outside of said tank, a horizontal table secured on top of said vertical member and extending on opposite sides thereof so that a portion overhangs said tank and a portion projects outwardly to the rear thereof, a vertically extending shaft supported in the forward portion of lsaid table and located above said 100 tank, a brush mounted on the lower end of :said vertical shaft, a fluid pump supported by said vertical member and located to the rear thereof, means connecting said pump to the interior of said tank, a motor supported on said table, a drive shaft-105 in said motor geared to said vertical'shaft, a shaft supported in the rear projecting portion of said table geared to said motor shaft and connected to said fluid pump, a ring like spray headrsurround-y ing said vertical shaft above said brush, and a pipe 1x10 line connecting said pump to said spray head.
