IMPROVEMENT IN BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,780, dated July 3, 1877 application filed October 31, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MINER, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boots and Shoes; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a section on the line w w.
The object I have in view is to so construct a boot or shoe that the leather sole of the same shall be protected from wear and from coming in contact with the heated walks, allowing a circulation of air between the soles; and it consists in attaching a metallic cap-sole to the sole of the shoe, between which there are interposed spacing-thimbles, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, A represents a shoe of the usual construction.
B is a metallic cap-sole, secured to the sole of the shoe A by screws b.
Interposed between the soles A and B are spacing-thimbles 0, through which the screws b pass and keep the metallic sole at the proper distance from the sole of the shoe.
Washer a may be placed between the thinlbles and the sole A, if desired, which will prethe sole A, which will effectually prevent the bulging in of the sole.
A shoe constructed as described I have found to be very comfortable during the heated season, as it enables the wearer to walk upon the hot flag-stones and upon the deck of a vessel and experience no inconvenience from heated feet, as the sole of the shoe is kept comparatively cool by the circulation of air between the sole and the walk or deck.
If desired, the cap-sole may be turned up at its edges, so as to meet the sole of the shoe all around, or part y so.
What I claim as myiuvention is- A metallic cap-sole secured to the sole of a boot or shoe by suitable devices, leaving an intermediate space or spaces to allow a current of air to pass between them, substantially as set forth.
