IMPROVEMENT m FAN ATTACHMENTS FoR ROCKING-CHAIRS, &c.
' Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,700, dated July 3, 1877; application filed May 12, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OHARLEs KRAUSS, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful 1m provement in Fans for Chairs, Rocking-Chairs, Cradles, and Tables, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a side view of my improved device, shown as applied to a rockingechair. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail section, taken through the line as as, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 isa detail section, taken through the line 3 y, Fig. 1. Fig.5 is a detail view of the clamp and swiveled guide,
Similar letters'ofreference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved fan attachment for chairs, rockingchairs, cradles, and tables, which shall be so constructed as to be operated by the movement of the said chair or cradle while being rocked.
The invention consists in the combination of the pivoted bar, the cord, the pulley and shaft, the hub and fans, the spring and case, the branched adjustable bar, the supportingbar, the guide-block, and the adjustable step and clamp with each other, to adapt them to be attached to a chair or cradle; and in the combination of the adjustable clamp with the guide-block of the supporting-bar for securing said guide-block adjustably to a chair, rocking-chair, cradle, or table, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents a rocking-chair, to the middle part of one of the rockers of which is pivoted the middle part of a bar, B. The forward end of the barB rests upon the floor, and has a small wheel pivoted to it to diminish friction. end of the bar B is attached the lower end of a cord, (J, the upper .end of which is wound T0 the rear tached one end of a coiled spring, H, the other end of which is attached to thecase or drum I in which the spring H is coiled. The case I rides upon the shaft E, and is attached to one arm of the branched bar J, in the ends of the branches of which the shaft E revolves, and which is adjustably attached to the upper end of the barK by screws, which pass through a slot in the said bar J, and screw into the said bar K. The bar K passes through a guideblock, L, which may be provided with a screw to be screwed into the post of the chair'back, or swiveled to a U-clamp, M, which is secured to the post of the chair-back by a set-screw, m.
The latter construction I prefer, as it enables the device to be readily attached to a chair, cradle, or table, and readily detached when desired.
The lower end of the bar K rests in a step, N, formed upon the end of a slotted bar, which is adjustably secured by a set-screw, n, to a U-clamp, O. The clamp O is adjnstably and detachably secured to the rocker of the chair A, or to the rocker of a cradle by a set-screw, 0.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- l. The combination of the pivoted bar B, the cord 0, the pulley D and shaft E, the hub F and fans G, .the spring H and case I, the branched adjustable bar J, the bar K, the guideblock L, and the adjustable step and clamp N n O 0 with each other, to adapt them to be attached to a chair, or cradle, or table, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combinationof the adjustable clamp M m with the guide-block L of the bar K, for securing said guide-block adjustably to a chair, or cradle, or table, substantially as herein shown and described.
CHARLES KRAUSS.
