Description

E. CHENEY.
ROCKING DEVICES FOR HARVESTERS. No. 192,681. Patented July 3,1877.
P E ERS. PHOTOLITHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D 04 UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD CHENEY, OF GENEVA LAKE, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROCKING DEVICES FOR HARVESTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,681, dated July 3, 1877; application tiled May 21, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD CHENEY, of Geneva Lake, in the county of Walworth and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Tilting Device for Harvesters, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side view of my improved tilting device. Fig. 2 is a top view in detail.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
This invention relates to means for tilting the cutting apparatus of reaping and mowing machines; and the nature of my invention consists in combining, with the draw-bar and slotted shoe of the finger-bar, an adjustable cam or slotted wedge and a hand-lever, whereby the attendant can tilt the cutting apparatus', and give it any desired angle of inclination, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed drawing, A designates the cutting apparatus of a reaper or mower, and
B is the inner shoe, which is slotted vertically, and extended from the finger-bar forward and upward, as shown in Fig. l. G designates a draw-bar, which is pivoted between ears a, formed on the shoe B, and also pivoted to the draft-frame. This draw bar will allow the cutting apparatus to be tilted, and it will also allow it to be raised and depressed. D designates a cam or slotted wedge, which is connected by clips b b to the draw-bar O, and which is free to be moved on this bar in a direction with its length. The slot 0 in the cam is curved, as shown in Fig. 1, and receives an anti-friction roller, d, which is applied to the upper end of the shoe B. The cam or slotted wedge D has pivoted to it a rod, E, which is connected to a hand-lever, F, arranged in a position convenient to the drivers seat.
It will be seen from the above description that by vibrating the lever F the cam D is moved on the draw-bar, and the cutting apparatus is tilted. The cam acts positively on the shoe of the finger-bar, and the roller d prevents undue friction.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The slotted cam or wedge D, adjustable on the draw-bar O, and combined with the shoe B, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
' EDWARD CHENEY. Witnesses:
