Referring more particularly to the drawings the numeral 15 designates generally acasing of any desired size and conguration and in which casing are arranged two containers 16--17 in which the articles 18 and 19 are arranged.
The casing is provided with a discharge outlet 20 through which the articles are delivered to the operator. f
Arranged within the casing and at a suitable point is a supporting platform 21 upon which is reciprocably mounted a slidable member 22 being held in position in any suitable manner, preierably by flanging the edges 23 thereof over the edges or" the support 21 (see particularly Figure l) l This member 22 is adapted to be reciprocated in any desired or suitable manner by means of check controlled mechanism also oi vany suitable construction. Y
The specific construction, however, of the check controlled mechanism iorms no part of the present invention. Sufce it to say that the check controlled mechanism Ais provided with an oper ating handle 24 which upon the insertion of a proper checkinto the machine through an opening 25 will form an operative connection between the handle 24 and a cam device 26 to rotate thev latter. This cam device operates upon projections 27-28 on a member 29 that is pivotally supported as at 30. The member 29 is provided with arms 31 which extend into openings 32 in an ear or projection 33 connected to the slidable member 22 so that when the cam device 26 is rotated it Will alternately engage the projections 2'7-28` to rock the member 29 and thereby reciprocate the member 22 upon its support.
Connected with the member 22 to reciprocate therewith is a fixed or rigid ejector 34 which is positioned beneath the container 16 to engage, when the ejector is in a proper position, behind the lowermost article 18 to eject the latter upon the movement of the ejector 34 and the member 22 in one direction.
Pivotally supported by the member 22 and in alinement with the ejector 34 is another ejector 35 which is arranged to operate beneath the container 1'7 to eject the articles 19 therefrom, ,similar to the manner in which the ejector 34 ejects the articles 18 from the container 16.
This ejector 35Vis provided Witha body por- 110 tion 36 which is shaped to form downwardly pro jecting ears 37 and is connected with upwardly projecting ears 3S on the'incmber 22 and a pivot pin or rod 39 forms a pivotal connection between the respective ears.
A spring 40 encompasses the pivot pin or rod 39 and tends normali;T to elevate or raise the ejector 35 to its upper'nost position and to a position that it will pass be id the articles 19 in the container 17 as shown more clearly in Figure 7.
Connected with. pivoted ejector 35 is an arm or lnger 411 which carried by a lateral extension oi the ejector 35 which extension preferably passes behind. the ejector 34 as shown more clearly in Figures i5 9. This extension or finger 10, when the ejector is raised to its uppermost position with to the member 22 will project above top oi the ejector tf1 and will be disposed beneath the articles 18 in container 16, as shown more clearly in Figures 4 to 7; Y
When there-are any art'clcs in the container 18 the arm or linger i1 will be depressed by the articles in the container as shown in Figure 5, so as to hold the ejector depressed. against the stress of the spring 11o, with the result that when the ejector or supporting member /12 is reciprocated articles are in the container 16, the ejector 35 will be prevented from ejecting the ar ticles 19 from the container 17, shown more clearly Figures i and 5. When, however, there are no articles in the container 15 the spring will raise the ejector ,A to the position shown Figures 6 and 7, so

Upon the return movement oi the member 22 and the ejecting means 35, when there are no articles in the container lo, the ejector 35 will be held depressed by oi the engagement of the ejector under the lowermost article 19 in the container 17, as shown in Figure of the drawings, until the parts have assumed the position shown in Figure 7, at which time the springlil will raise the ejector 55 to a position to eject the lowermost article 19.
The check controlled mechanism which it is preferably desired to e iioy, is one described in the aioresaid application and embodies in its mechanism a pivotaliymounted member i12 having a finger 13 which is to hold the check against being discharged from check carry ing member of the check controlled mechanism when there are no articles in the container 17, and this is effected by reason of the fact that the member e2 is normally held by means of a spring 42@ in the position shown in Figure 3, so that the finger or projection i3 thereon will prevent the check from dropping out of its seat in the check carrier. The normal position of the parts is as shown in Figures 4 and 5. That is when articles are in both the containers 16 and 17 the lowerrnost article in the container 16 will depress the arm or finger 11 on the ejector 35 and hold the latter depressed against the stress of the spring i0 and the ejector Si will be disposed behind the lowermost package in the container 16. At the same time when articles are in the container 17 the lowermost article 19 will rest upon and depress the end /18 oi the shaft ll5 to roch the latter and withdraw the member 42 so as to permit the check to pass into the machine, whereupon by the rotation of the handle 24 the member 22 carrying the elements 3e and 35 will be moved inthe operative direction, with the result that the lowermost package will be ejected from the container 16 while the ejector 35 will be held in an inoperative position to pass under the lowermost This ejector 35 will be held depressed so long as there are any articles 18 in the container 16.
As soon as the container 16 is empty the spring 40 will raise the ejector 35 and the arm or finger fil to the posi ion shown in Figures 5 and 7, so as to permit the ejector 35 to iin-e a position back of the lowermost article 19 in the container 17. whereupon, upon movement of the member 22 and. the ejecting means supported thereby in an operative direction, the lowermost article 19 will be ejected from the container 17.
This operation may be continued until the oontainer 17 is emptied, at which time the spring 42H will move the member i2 in a direction to position the nger e3 so as to lock the check controlled mechanism against operation by reason of the fact that the end 48 of the shaft 45 will be permitted to rise.
Thus/it will be seen that the ven-ding of the articles from the container 17 will be controlled by the articles 18 in the container 16.
The bottom'of the container 16 is preferably provided with supports 16a, while the bottom of the container 17 is provided with supports 17e, for supporting the articles.

In the form of the invention shown in Figures 10 and 11, there is disclosed three containers 51--52-53, although any number of containers 'i may be employed and arranged in substantially the same manner as shown in these two iigures.

The numeral 55 corresponds with the member 36 which is pivotally mounted upon the reciprocating member 22 and is provided with an ejector 56 corresponding with the ejector 35 and a iinger or projection 57 corresponding with the part L11, in the other forni of the invention. It will therefore be manifestv that with this form ofthe invention the articles in the container 5l control the ischarge ci the articles from the container 52, and likewise the articles in thel container 52 control the discharge of the articles from the container 53 by respectively rendering Y the elements 56-57 inactive when there are any articles in the respective containers, but when there are no articles in the container 51, the ejector will be rendered active and likewise whenl there are no articles in the container 52 the ejector 5'? will be rendered active. c
With this improved construction it will be mani# fest that a large supply of articles may be arranged in a verycornpact space and the machine Will be automatically contro led in its operation by the presence or absence oi articles in the. respective containers.
While the preferred forms oi the invention have been herein shown'and described, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, within the spirit of this invention.

A vending machine embodying a plurality ci containers for the articles to be vended, a delivery outlet, reciprocable element, means for reciprocating` said element, -ejectors individual to said containers and carried with said element ier bodily movement 'therewith upon each operation oi said element, each of the elements operating to vend the articles in a'single step oi operation from their respective containe ers directly, to said delivery outlet, means adapting one oi' said ejectors for pivotal. movement with respect to the other ejector and to said element whereby 'said pivoted ejector is adapted for movement into and out of active position, and means whereby the presence of an article in the container other than the container with which the said pivoted ejector coeoperates, will cause the pivoted ejector to be rendered inactive. A vending machine embodying a plurality i orcontainers for the articles to be vended, a delivery outlet, a reciprocable element, ejectors individual to the containers and bodily movable upon each operation of the' said element, each oi the ejectors operating to vend the articles Yfrom their respective containers directly to said delivery outlet, one oi said ejectors being with respect to the said element, nieans pivotally connecting the other ejector with the element for movement with respect thereto and into and out of active position with respect to its individual container, means tending normally to move the pivoted ejector with respect to said element and into an active position, and means connected with pivoted ejector and extending into thev path of movement of the articles the other container for controlling the activity of the said pivoted ejector.

A vending machine einbodying two containers for ther articles to be vended, a delivery outlet, a reciprocable slide, means for actuating the slide, ejectors connected wit the slide for bodily movement therewith upon each` operation of the slide, said ejectors being individual to the containers and each operating to vend the articles in a single step of. operation from their respective containers directly to the delivery outlet, means pivotally mounting one or the ejectors upon the slide for movement with respect thereto into and out of active position with respect to its container, means tending normally to move the last said ejector about its pivot into an active position, and meansr connected with the pivoted ejector and extending into the path of movement of the articles in the other contion of the slide, said ejectors being individual to the containers and each operating to vend the lar articles in a single step of operation from their respective containersV directly to said delivery outiet, means pivotally mounting one of the ejectors upon the slide for movement with respect thereto into and out oi active position with respect vto its container, means tending normally to move the last said ejector about its pivot into lan active position, and a ringer connected with the said pivoted ejector and disposed in the path of movement of the articles in the other container ier rendering the pivoted ejector inactive, said pivotedv ejector being automatically rendered active in the absence of an article in the other container.
8. A vending machine embodying means for holding a plurality of supplies of articles side by side, a delivery outlet, a reciprocable slide, means for reciprocating the slide, a 'xed ejector carried by the slide for vending the articles from one of said supplies directly to said delivery outlet, a
pivoted ejector also carried by the slide for vend-- ing the articles fromthe other of said supplies and directly to said delivery outlet, means tending normally to move the pivoted ejector with respect to said slide into a position to eject the articles from its supply upon actuation of said slide, and means whereby the pivoted ejector will be moved into an inactive position with respect to its supply of articles by the presence of an article in the other supply.

A vending machine embodying means or holding a plurality of supplies of articles side by side, a delivery outlet, a reciprocable slide, means for reciprocating the slide, a fixed ejector carried by the slide for vending the articles from one or said supplies directly to said delivery outlet, a pivoted ejector also carried by the slide for vending the articles from the other of said supplies and directly to said delivery outlet, means tending normally to move the pivoted ejector with respect to said slide into a position to eject the articles from its supply upon actuation oi said slide, and finger connected with said pivoted ejector and extending into the path of movement of the articles in the other supply to be engaged and moved thereby for moving the pivoted ejector into an inactive position and for holding the same in such position during the presence of an article in said other supply.

A Vending machine for holding a plurality of supplies of articles side by side, a reciprocable element, a fixed ejector carried with said element, a pivoted ejector also carried with said element, an extension carried by the pivoted ejector and extending into the path of movement of the articles in the container individual to the xed ejector, whereby the presence oi articles in the last said container will render the pivoted ejector inactive, means tending normally to render the pivoted ejector active, the active faces of said ejectors being substantially in alinement and in substantially the same vertical plane, and means for reciprocat` ing said element. i

A vending machine for holding a plurality or" supplies or articles side by side, a delivery outlet, a reciprocable element, a fixed ejector carried with said element, a pivoted ejector also carried with said element, an extension carried by the pivoted ejector and extending into the path of movement of the articles in the container individual to the fixed ejector, whereby the presence ofV articles in the last said container will render the pivoted ejector inactive, means tending normally to render the pivote-d `ejector active, the active faces of said ejectors being substantially in alinement, and means for reciprocating saidelement, each of the ejectors operating to vend the articles from their respective containers directly to said outlet, and independently of the articles in the other container. l2. A vending machine for holding a plurality oi supplies of articles side by side, a delivery outlet, a reciprocable element, a xedejector carried with said element, a pivoted ejector also carried with said element, an extension carried by thepivoted ejector and extending into the path of movement of the articles in the container individual to the fixed ejector, whereby the presence of articles in the last said container will render the pivoted ejector inactive, means tending normally to render the pivoted ejector active, the active faces of said ejectors being substantially in alinement, and means for reciprocating said element, all or" the articles from one container being completely vendlli? ed directly to said delivery outlet and in advance other container.

A vending machine embodying a plurality of containers for the articles to be vended arranged side by side, ejectors individual to the containers, operating mechanism common to the ejectors, a delivery outlet common to the containers, each of the ejectors operating to vend the articles from their respective containers and directly to said delivery outlet, and means whereby the presence of the articles in one of the containers will render the ejector of the other container inactive, all of the articles from one of the containers being completely vended in advance oi the removal of any of the articles from the other container.
