This invention relates to door sweeping brushes or floor brooms, the primary object of the invention being to provide a device of this character.

An important object of the invention is to provide a handle socket member embodying a length of wire material formed into a series of connected loops, of a diameter to accommodate one end of the handle, one end of the wire extending through the socket, and passed into a concentric opening formed in the end of the handle, to the end that a binding action is set up between the handle and socket member, securely holding the handle within the socket member.

Another object of the invention is to provide a connection of this character which will yield when the broom is in operation, and when the broom head is being knocked against a stationary object to remove the dirt or dust therefrom, thereby insuring against the handle breaking, at its point of connection with the broom head.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, r which will appear as the description proceeds,

the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed,

it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Figure 1 is a fragmental plan view of a brush equipped with a handle socket constructed in accordance with the invention.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the head of a brush is indicated by the reference character 5, and as shown, the brush head is formed with r a cut out portion 6 extending transversely thereof at a point intermediate the ends of the brush head.

It will be seen that by this adjustment, the brush head may be held at any desired angle.

In the formation of the handle socket member, a length of wire is used, the length of wire being formed into a series of connected loops 13, the diameters of the loops being reduced in size, towards the extension 7, so that a tapered socket is provided to receive the tapered end of thebroom handle indicatedkat le.

The extension 7 forms a continuation of the length' of wire of which the socket member is constructed, and the free end of the extension is etxended upwardly through the socket member, as clearly shown by the drawing, providing a pin 15 to be extended into a concentrically formed opening, disposed at the end of the handle 14.

The pin 15 is eccentrically disposed within the socket member, so that when the handle 14 is 9V positioned within the socket member and the pin 15 extended into the concentric opening of the handle, the pin 15 will be bent towards the center of the socket member, with the result that a binding action is set up between the handle and socket member, due to the lateral pressure of the pin within the concentric opening of the handle.

The loops of which the socket member is formed, also provide what might be termed threads, adapted to bite into the wooden handle, to better secure the handle withinthe socket member.

It will also be seen that the construction of the socket member will yield, while the broom is in operation, or when the broom head is being struck against a stationary object in cleaning the broom head, thereby insuring against the handle becoming broken, While in use.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:

1. A broom comprising a head member and a handle member, a socket member secured to the head member, a yieldable pin disposed eccentrically Within the socket member, said handle member having a concentric bore formed in one end thereof, said handle adapted to rlt Within the socket member, and said pin extending into the bore setting up a binding action With the wall of the bore securing the handle Within the socket member.

2. A broom comprising a head and handle, a socket member including a plurality of connected loops varying in diameter towards the lower end of the socket member, a yieldable pin extending through the socket member and disposed laterally of' the exis ofthe seeker member, said handle having a bore to accommodate the pin, and said pin setting up a binding action with the Wall of' the bore 'of the handle securing the handle within the socket member.

A broom comprising a head and handle, a socket member mounted on the head, appin eX- tending through the socket member and disposed eccentrically therein, said handle having a bore disposed centrally in one end thereof, said bore accommodating the pin when the handle is forced into the socket member, securing the handle Within the socket member.
