'9 ,Claims. (01. is9' '1s7 This invention relates to mechanism for checking the flight of a shuttle in a fly shuttle loom.
It is the object of my inventionto provide mechanism effective tostop the shuttle in a predetermined position in the shuttle box, and pref erably: without engagement of the picker.
A further object of the invention is to provide means by which increased pressure may be applied to the shuttle as it closely approaches final boxed position, together with means by which such increased pressure will be relieved before the shuttle is picked from the shuttle box.
My invention further relates to arrangements and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims. Y

I Referring to the drawings, I have shown certain parts of a drop box loom including a loom side and-a lay 11, supported on theusual swords 12 and swinging on a rock shaft 13; A lay end 15 is mounted on the end of the lay 11 and. is provided with guideways for a set of shifting shuttle boxes 17, one such guideway being shown at 18in Fig. '3. The shuttle boxes are mounted on a lifter rod 19 and are shifted vertically by'pattern controlled mechanism of the usual type.
Each shuttle box is provided with a binder 20, pivoted at 21 near the left hand end of the drop boxes 1'7 as viewed in Fig. 2. Binder springs 22 are provided for the binders 20, said springs being secured by screws 23 (Fig. 3)
to the front of the drop boxes 17.
A picker P is slidablelengthwise of the lay on a guide-rod 25 and is mounted to engage the shuttles which is actively positioned opposite the picker. A picker stick is provided for actuating the picker P.
The parts thus far described are of the usual construction and in themselves form no part of my present invention, which relates particularly to the provision of a checking. member :30, mov'-" able as will be described into. the pathof the in-coming active shuttle S. i
'The checking member is loosely pivoted at 31 on a projection 32 ofapositioning arm' 33', the'upper 'end'of which is pivoted at 34 on a bracket 35 extending; outward from. the my end 15. The lower end of thearm 33 is connected by a link 37 to abellcrank 38 which is pivoted at 39 on a bracket 40 secured to the under side of the lay 11. e
A'link 42 is connected at its upper endthrough a swivel member 43 to the horizontal arm of the bell crank 38 and is connected at its; lower end to the-front end of a cam lever 44, pivoted on a bracket 45secured to the 100m side 10.
A cam roll 46 at therear end of the lever 44 is engaged by a cam 48 mounted onthe bottom or cam shaft 50 of the loom, said shaft making one revolution to each two beatsof the lay. The
cam 48 has raised portions 51 and depressed portions 52, both preferably concentric with the. shaft 50. A spring 53 acts to hold the cam roll 46 against the surface of the cam 48.
A relatively heavy spring 54 (Fig. 2) is interlink 37, and a bracketor guide 56-mountedon the lay end 15. A stop screw 5'7 is threaded and adjustable in the arm -33"and engages.;the outer face of-the lay end 15, thus limiting the swingumm STATES I? ing movement of the arm under the influence of the spring 54.

is shaped to fit the tapered end of the shuttle 'S, and is preferably provided with a covering movement of the parts to operative position and also to quicken the release of pressure, as will" be hereinafter described.
After the shuttle hasgbeen picked and the boxes havebeen shifted, the roll 46 drops into a depressed portion 52 of the cam48 and the springs 53 and 54 cooperate to move the checking member 30 to the operative position indicated in Fig. 3, in which position the spring 60 maintains the. member. 30 in yielding, contact with the projection 64 of the binder 20.
