HOLDER FOR TUBES Filed Nov. 14, 1931 Patented Aug. 22, 1933 I 1,923sz9 1.923.929 I HOLDER Fon .'r'UBEs i Otto Jansen, Dulken,V Germany Application November 7575,055; and in Gorm 14,1931, I Serial. No.

4 claims. (elgen-eo) This invention relates to a device for holding and compressing tubes, in which the tube is wound on to a key and guided in a slot of the holder. The ccmpressing of tubes has been 5 effected up to present in that first the portion of the tube below the neck is compressed and then, when this portion is almost empty, the mass is pressed upwards from the lower end of the tube. By compressing tubes in this man ner they are never completely emptied and the wall of the tube becomes crumpled, so that tubes for tooth cream and other pastes do not look nice on wash stands. I
Devices have become known in .which the tube is compressed in a slot of a body, the slotl being resilient or adjustable in order that the tube may be inserted into the same and subsequently strongly compressed in this slot. According 'to the invention a block having a slot is used as H holder for tubes, this slot getting wider in outward direction. In the block a hollow space is formed below the slot, designed to aocoinmodate a slot key. The key is mounted vin the side walls of the block which have an oblique slot or suitable guide obliquelyv inclined towards a solid partition in the block, so that the pull ex'- erted upon the tube when the key is being turned presses the key with the rolled on portion of the tube against the partition whereby the in the tube is completely press/ed out of this portion of the tube.
Either a slot for guiding the key is arranged in each side wall of the block, or if there is only one slot, a stop is provided for guiding the key end.
The tube holder according to the invention is made of porcelain or of other suitable material, for instance, sheet metal. If the holder is made of sheet metal. the upper portion of the sheet metal strip forms a flat funnel, and on either side of this strip flaps are arranged for guiding the key.
Several embodiments of the invention are illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawng in which:
Fig. l shows a tube holder n perspective view.
Fig. 2 is a Vertical section of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows a tube holder of sheet metal.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 shows in Vertical section a tube holder having a slot and a guide by abutment.
Figs. l, 2 and 5 show a holder of porcelain or other suitable mass formed to a block a in the shape of a stopped pyramid. The front side b is used for advertsements. In the top surface of theblock a slot c is arranged which enlarges funi nelshaped in outward direction and communcates at its lower end with a hollow space d. A wall e of the hollow space is situated approximately in the extension of the middle between a slot and the wall of the slot. In each side wall of the block a slot f is provided extending from the lower end of slot c obliquely in downwardV direction. A key g, preferably of U-shaped cross section is inserted into the two slots f.
The lower end of the tube is placed into the i f slot c so that it extends into a slot in the key g. By turningthe key the tube is gradually wound around the key, and pulls the same upwards in the slots f pressing it against the wall e so that the end of the tube wound around the key is clamped fiat and smooth between thekey and the wall e. Owing to the oblique arrangement of the slots lf the key g moves gradually away from` the wall e when the tube is wound more and more around the key, the straight portion of the tube remaining pressed against the wall e so that a Vertical pull is exerted upon the tube.
The wall e need not be accurately Vertical as shown, it may be outwardly inclined away from the Vertical line imagined through slot c. In this case the slots f must be inclined relative to wall e at the same angle as shown in Fig. 2 so that they assume a more or less7 Vertical direction. The keyr g will always stand perpendicularly under the slot c.
'I'he holder according to the invention may be made of a strip h of sheet metal which has a flap i at either side designed to guide the key y. The upper portion of the sheet metal strip forms a flat funnel k, its lower portion Z forming a foot.
In the block a forming the holder shown in Fig. 5 only one slot f is provided in one side wall to facilitate the inserting of the key. On the inner surface of the opposite side wall an abutment m is provided, which projects from the side wall n andihas a side edge o inclined corresponding to the angle at which the slot is inclined.
1. A holder for tubes, comprising in combina--v tion with a hollow block having a funnel shaped slot in its top wall designed to hold the lower end of the tube and two oblique slots one in each of two opposite side walls, a Vertical partition extending from the lower end of one side wall of said funnel shaped slot close to the upper end of said oblique Slots, and a key having a slot adapted to be inserted through said oblique slots so that its own slot is standing below said funnel shaped slot and to grip the lower end of the tube to clamp this tube end against said partition.
2. A holder for tubes, comprising in combination with a hollow block having a funnel shaped slot in its top wall designed to hold the lower end of the tube and an oblique slot in one side wall of said block, a Vertical partition extending from the lower end of one side wall of said funnel shaped slot close to the upper end of said oblique slot, an abutrnent projecting from the inner` surface of the cavity having a bevelled inner surface opposite said partition, and a key having a slot adapted to be inserted through said oblique slot so that its own slot is standing below said funnel shaped slot and to grip the lower end of the tube to clarnp this tube end against said partition.
3. A holder for tubes, comprising in combination a strip of sheet metal bent at the lower end to form a foot Vand bent at the upper end to form `rnetrioally opposite guides one on each side of V said wall andrising towards said wall and a key having a slot adapted to engage said guides so that its slot is standing below the aperture in said element and adapted to grip the lower end of the tube 'to clamp this tube end against said wall.
