Y., a Corporation of Delaware Application December 21, 1929, Serial No. 415,754, and in Great Britain January 19, 1929 16 Claims. (01. 274-2) ries This invention relates to improvements in of the case when closed. In the box is mounted talking machines and more particularly to talka metal or other amplifying horn 5 with its ing machines of the kind in which a hinged lid inlet and outlet ends 6 and '7 towards the rear or cover is utilized to form part of the sound of the box, the horn 5 following a substantially 5 amplifying horn. circular path within the box, as clearly shown 60 The invention is mainly directed to the prO- in Fig. 2, so that a space 8 is left in the centre to vision of a machine which, though small and house the driving motor not shown. In the open posi- 0 tion of the lid, the plate 21 and its wings 22 together with said lid form an extension of the upwardly directed portion '1 of the amplifying horn.
A series of notches 25 maybe provided in the slots, 24 with which the stop pins 23 may be engaged to vary the open position of the lid and hinged plate 21 and therefore the size and direc tion of the horn mouth.
The line of juncture of the side walls of the box 1 and the lid may be shaped as shown in the drawings to provide the most desirable shape for the horn mouth. The side walls 20 of the lid are shown as being deepest at a point one third to one half the length of the lid away from the rear edge so that a horn mouth of large depth may be obtained with wings 22 of small width on the plate 21.
When the lid is closed, hinged plate 21 is moved down about its hinge on wall 13 into the position shown in Fig. 4 where it lies close to the wall 18 of the lid, the hinge of the plate 21 in the case illustrated being in contact with the underside of the wall 18 of the lid.
The space between plate 21, the motor board 16 and wall 13 when the machine is closed may be utilized to house the sound arm 15 and sound box and an aperture 26 may be provided in the motor board to receive the sound box to retain the latter and the sound arm 15 in fixed position as shown in Fig. 4 during transit.
