My invention relates specically'to a device having as its purpose the lling of a bottle with a predetermined quantity of liquid, the pressure of the bottle upwardly against the filling head serving to open the closure of the measuring container and permit the iiow of measured liquid into the bottle, and the withdrawal of the bottle from the filling head serving to measure the quantity of liquid to be received by the subsequently nlled bottle.
With reference to the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevational View of my device showing the lling head in position prior to the filling of the bottle.

As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the base member 1 is secured to the liquid tank by means of the threaded bushing 2, extending from the exterior and screwed through a threaded aperture in the tank. The base member 1 is connected to the upright tube 3, which may or may not be integral with said base member, and the internal diameter' of which measures the same as and registers with the internal diameter of the bushing 2. The nlling tube 4 is slidably arranged in said upright Ytube 3, and extends through the bushing 2 to the exterior of the tank.
The rilling tube 4 is held in the tube 3 by means oi the head 9 and depending tube 10 on threaded ange l1, such depending tube 10 being slidable over the central upright tube 3, both the head 9 and the flange 11 being screwed on the top end of the nlling tube 4.
The base member 1 comprises two upright members 12, 13, or tubes, on either side thereof, vertically adjustable supports 14, 15 being secured therein'by set screws. These upright supports engage at their top ends the cross member 16, which serves as the base for the measuring cup 45, 17 and liquid valve outlet 18. The measuring cup 17 -is integral with or tightly connected with the outlet member 18 forming the valve, and which valve member extends through and is secured in an aperture by collar 19 provided in said cross member 16, the valve member 18 being centered directly above the nlling tube 4. The lling tube head 9 is funnel shaped so as to form a tight connection with the base of the valve outlet member 18 when raised tightly against said valve. K
The arm 20 is pivoted to one end of the crossmember 16, so that its opposite end is movable upwardly, and has secured thereto the conical member 21 forming the valve closure which is so placed on the arm 20 that as said arm is placed 60 in substantially horizontal position said closure enters and stops the dow of liquid from the cup 17 through the valve outlet 18. v y Y A spring 22 connecting the free end of said Varm with the stationary cross-member 16 assists 65 in returning said arm to its horizontal position, and thus closing the liquid'valve, when upward pressure on said free end of the arm 20 is removed.
The tube 23 depends and may or may not be 70 integral with the cross-member 16, and acts asa casing for the vertically movable rod 24'secured to the horizontal arm 25'connected with the top flange 11 of the tube 10, so that with the upward movement of the iilling tube 4, and the iian'ge 11, 75 said arm 25 is also moved upwardly and carries the vertical rod 24 into Contact with the free end of the arm 20. The arm 25 and Vertical rod 24 are held in proper alignment with the casing 23 by means of an aperture in said arm 25' through which extends the upright support 15, and on which support said arm slides in its vertical movement. f
d As shown in Figure 3, the upward'movement of the filling tube 4 brings the rod 24 into contact with the free end of the arm 20, raising the valve closure 21 and allowing the liquid in the cup 17 to flow through the valve 18 into the lling tube 4, the valve member 18 and the iilling tube head v19 having been connected at substantially the same time as the valve is opened. Y
fThe cup 17 is formed to contain `a predetery mined quantity of liquid, so that when the valve is opened that exact quantity is delivered to the bottle'being lled. The quantity of liquid may be varied downwardly from the normal total content of the cup by placing therein a washer 26, orother similar means, as shown in Figure 2, the displacement of which will reduce the capacity of the cup to the desired extent.
Connected to the base member 1, preferably integrally, is the upwardly extending cylindrical casing 27, the bottom flange 28 with piston ring 29 on the vertically movable tube 10. being equal in diameter to the inside diameter of ysaid casing so as to act as a piston therein. The downward movement of the flange 28, or piston, results in pressure inv the chamber 30 iformed by said casing and piston. The tube 3,1 connected with the bottom of the casing 27 and chamber 30 extends upwardly and has its exit over the cup 17.
With the upward movement of the iilling tube 4, and corresponding movement of the tube 10, the flange piston 28 is raised above the ports 32 in the casing 27 and the liquid in the tank, which is kept at a normal level intermediate said ports and the top oi the lling tube (as shown in Figure l), is thus allowed to enter said ports below the piston and fill the chamber 30.
The iiange piston 28 is above said ports when the filling tube 4 is connected with the Valve outlet and the liquid in thecup is being delivered' to the bottle. With the downward movement ofthe filling tube, its disconnection from the valve outlet, and the closing of said valve, the piston 28 moves downward in the casing 27 and forces the liquid therein upwardly through the tube 31 into the cup 17.
As the quantity of liquid thus pumped'int'o the cup is in excess of its capacity it is lled to overflowing and assures the total amount measurable by the cup being delivered to the bottle when the liquid valve 18 is again opened.
'Io explain the operation of my device, with the cup 17 iilled with liquid and the lling tube 4 in the position shown in Figure i and Figure 2, the bottle to be filled raised against the funnel 5, forcing the filling tube upwardly until the top member 19 thereof connects said tube with the valve outlet 18, and the upward movement of the rod 24 simultaneously raises the arm 20 and valve closure 21, allowing the liquid in the cup to ow through the filling tube into the i bottle, and the liquidin the tank to enter the pump chamber 30 below the piston 28. The device would then be in position shown in Figure 3.
With the withdrawal of the bottle from the funnel 15 andthe downward movement of the lling tube, the valve closure 21 is seated in the outlet 18 preventing flow of the liquid from the cup as it is pumped thereinto through the pipe 31 from the chamber 30 by the downward movement of the piston 28.
The bottle lling operation may then be repeated.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a filling machine, the combination of a lling tube,l a pump, a liquid container, a liquid valve in said container, means connecting said filling tube with said pump and liquid valve whereby the movement of said tube actuates said pump and valve, and liquid conveying means connecting said pump and liquid container.
2. In a filling machine, the combination of a lling tube, a pump having a piston, a liquid container, a liquid valvein said container, pump piston and valve reciprocating means actuated by movement of said filling tube, and liquid conveying means connecting said pump and said liquid container. v
3. In a iilling machine, the combination of a iilling tube, a pump having a piston, a liquid con tainer, a liquid Valve in said container registering with the entrance to said lling tube, a valve closure, pump piston reciprocating means depending from said iilling tube, valve closure actuating means projecting from said lling tube, and liquid conveying means connecting said pump with said liquid container.
4. In a filling machine, the combination of a tube with an annular base member, Ya'iilling tube slidably arranged in said tube, a pump having a piston, a liquid container, a liquid valve in said container registering with the entrance to said filling tube, valve closing means, vertically disposed members secured to said base member and supporting said liquid container and valve, pump piston reciprocating means depending from said filling tube, valve actuating means projecting from said iilling tube, and a pipe connecting said pump with said liquid container.
5. In a iilling machine, the combination of a tube with an annular base member, a filling tube slidably arranged in said tube, a cylinder forming a piston chamber, a piston kin said chamber, a liquid container, a liquid valve in said container registering with the entrance to said filling tube, valve closing means, vertically disposed members secured to said base member and supporting said liquid container and valve, piston reciprocating means depending from said filling tube, Valve actuating means projecting from said filling tube, and a pipe connecting the base of said piston cylinder with said liquid container.

7.
