lclaim.
My invention relates to an improved surgical dressing, and its object is to provide a dressing which may be easily applied to and removed from a wound with a minimum of discomfort to a patient. a
I accomplish this object by constructing the dressing of an orificed layer of adhesive plaster, a ring of resilient material about the orifice adjacent that face of the plaster to be applied to the wound, a layer of dressing material covering the orifice in the plaster and a second layer or piece of plaster over the layer of dressing material.
One embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a sectional view of my improved surgical dressing, and
Fig. 2 shows it as seen from above.
A plaster 3 pasted on the wounded part 1 of the body 2 is provided with an opening 4 in reach of the wound 1. The opening 4 is bounded by a ring 5 of resilient material. Above the opening 4 of the plaster 3 there ispasted a covering 6 which carries a layer 7 of dressing material.
In using the dressing the plaster 3 is applied to the body so that the opening 4 coincides with the wound 1. Then the covering piece 6 carrying the dressing 7 is placed upon the plaster after the wound has been treated with the necessary drug.
For treating the wound it is merely necessary to remove and renew only the covering piece 6 which causes no pain to the patient because this piece is only applied to the plaster 3. The'covering piece 6 is prevented by the ring 5 from touching the wound, and consequently the wound which is probably alreadv covered with a scab or healing cannot be torn open again by the taking off of the coilering piece 6. The distance of the covering piece 6 from the wound offers the further great advantage that the healing procedure is much quicker and easier.
Consequently the wound 1 can be surveyed and cleaned in the most simple manner as often as required without any pain or other discomfort to the patient.
What I claim is:
A surgical dressing comprising an adhesive plaster having an opening therein, a ring of resilient material engaging a face of the plaster 76 about said opening, a layer of dressing material overlying said opening on the opposite face of the plaster and a second adhesive plaster overlying said dressing material and removably attached to the first plaster.
