lThe present invention relates in general to a combined calling device and calling device indicia ring support, but is particularly concerned with the provision or' a unitary structure which supports the indicia ring, for the calling device mounted thereon, in the space immediately surrounding the finger hold dial oi the calling device. The indicia ring of the invention has the advantage, over those usually arranged beneath the finger hold dial, in that it `can be more readily read even under poor lighting conditions.
One form of the invention is also arranged to receive a telephone transmitter. kThis form oi the invention is especially suitable for substitution for a quite generally used combined calling device and telephone transmitter support,v such as illustrated in Erickson Patent No. 1,546,780, issued July 21, 1925. The invention is also illustrated in a form suitable for use on telephones wherein the calling device is mounted directly upon the casing.
The invention is illustrated in two sheets of drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a side view of a portion of a telephone paystation equipped with a support constructed in accordance with the invention and shown partially in section; Fig. 2 is a rear view of the support; Fig. 3 is` a iront view of a portion of a telephone asit appears when equipped in accordance with the invention; while Fig. 4 is a detailed and enlarged sectional viewof a portion of the support taken on lines 4 4 of Fig. 1. These various gures illustrate the invention as employed in conjunction with wall telephones of the type illustrated in the referred to Erickson patent. Fig. 5 is a side view of aportion of a telephone paystation equipped with a modied form of support, shown in section; Fig. Gis a rear view of the support; while Fig. 'l is a front view of a paystation telephone equipped with the modied form of support. These figures illustrate the invention as varranged for use with a telephone wherein the calling device is ordinarily mounted directly upon the telephone casing.
The form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4 will iirst be described. n The support 2 comprises a casting arranged with a mounting space for a telephone transmitter and for a calling device, respectively, substantially as provided in the Erickson patent. The support 2, as will be seen by comparing Fig. 2 with Fig. 3 of the pati ent,` is also arranged to be secured to a telephone casing in identically the same manner as is the adapter of Erickson.
In the instant structure the wall 3 of the support has been provided with a ledge 24 on which a calling device 25 is held in place by suitable screws 9. The channel portion 4 has a front portion 10 in the same plane with the 'linger hold dial 23 of the calling device, and is arranged to 60 receive an indicia memberv 5 and a transparent protective member 6. These are securely held in place by a pair of split rings 7 and 8. The inner periphery of the portion 10 of support 2 and of the indicia and protective members are all appropriately notched out to provide space for the calling device finger stop.
The invention, as illustrated in Figs. 5, 6, and '7, comprises a support 12. This support is circular and is provided with a channel member quite similar to the one already described. The indicia mounting arrangement is also like the formerly described one. The calling device is equipped with elongated hexagon headed screws 13 having their heads tapped to receive screws 75 10.v When the calling device is placed within the support the heads of screws 10 register with U-shaped channels in the inner wall 14 of the support. The assembly is then securely held in place on the casing 11 by screws 10 passing there- 480 through and into the tapped heads of the screws 13.
It will be appreciated from the foregoing that applicant has provided two very simple forms of combined calling device and calling device S5 indicia supports.
` What is claimed is:
1. In combination with an impulse transmitting device ofthe rotatable dial type, the provision of a support having an outwardly and upwardly extending portion and having a continuation of said portion thence extended inward in approximately the plane of the rotatable diall of `the device, an indicia member, and means solely above the indicia member for securing said member in place on said last referred to portion..
2. In combination with an impulse transmitting device of the rotatable dial type, a housingY therefor in which the base thereof ares outwardly and upwardly, and thence back in the form of a continuous U to produce an.` indicia mounting surface surrounding the dial of the device.
