This invention relates to means for limit ing the power output of an internal eombustion engine as ofnan automotive vehicle, whereby the engine,particularly whennew, cannot be damaged: by incompetent or unauthorized operation. The objects of-the present invention are to accomplish additional, results and adv'antages. The'invention contemplates the provision of an aux'iliary throttle. valve permanently incorporated in the fuel supply system forthe engine, and adjustable asto its throttling effect; 7
Another object is to provide novel and simplified means for sealing the auxiliary throttle in any of its adjusted'positions, and
for sealing also the carburetor connection with the manifold in which the auxiliary throttle is located. Still another object is to'associate with this throttle valve,a connection for the, windshield wiper of the vehicle, or other pneumatic device to be actuated from the vacuum in the manifold. V
The exact nature of this invention together with further objects and advantages thereof will be apparent from the following. description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, inwhich Fig. 1 1s a view in elevation of pertinent portions of the fuel supply system of an internal combustion engine showing-- an embodiment of my invention associated therewith; Fig. 2 is a view of the same but showing a different adjustment of the parts; Fig. 3 is a detail section as in the plane of line 3-3, Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a sectional detail as in the Vt ith reference now to the drawing, 1 is the inlet portion of a manifold flanged as at 2 for connection with the carburetor 3 which is similarly flanged as usual so that bolts 4;
- According to;.my invention I provide in the manifold 1 an'auxiliary valve comprising a diskv 6 which'is the valve proper, mounted upon a stem'T. which bears in the 'manifo1dwallsandeXtends beyond one of them so that the valve 6 may-be set. As-
indicated in Figs. ,3 and 4 the stem? has a and, the manifold is provided with a boss 9 f The manifold 1 is drilled and threaded to 7 receive a screw 12 passing throughsone of the-openings 11 in the plate 10, whereby, dependent upon the opening 11 selected, the valve may be secured inany of a plurality of adjusted positions.
The plate 10 is provided with another opening 13 located inthe lip 14 projecting from the plate and preferably bent outwardly as indicated. The head of the screw .12 hasa transverse opening 15,' as dothe bolts 4. Thus the wire 16 maybe threaded as indicated Figs. l-.3, through both bolts 4,.the opening 15in the screw 12 and the opening 13 in the plate 10, and secured with the seal 17; and neither the screw'12 may be loosened to change the setting of the plate 10 and thus of the valve 6,-nor can either of the bolts 4 be loosened to allow air to enter the manifold at its connection with the car- 5 for actuation of an auxiliary such as a windshield wiper, preferably the stem 7 of the auxiliary valve is provided with a bore 18.
