This invention relates to a package and method of sealing the same.
Retail stores usually receive certain commodities, such as coffee beans, for example, 0 in paper ba s. In instances, where it is the desire of. e customer to have the coffee bean ground, the bag is opened, the coffee beans are round and then replaced in the .bag which as a metal clamping strip there- 10 on for again closing the same. This metal clamping strip allows the bag to be readily opened so that a small portion of the contents could be taken out or stolen, and it frequently happened that the paper bags which were closed by a metal clamping strip were found to be under weight.
This invention seeks to overcome the objections above noted sealing the bags havin the metal clamping strips, so that the sea may be broken when desired and the metal stripl used for closing the ba 'l e invention comprises t e novel ackage and method hereinafter describe and more particularly pointed out and defined 555 in the appended claims.

Referring now more particularly, to Figs. 1 to 5, there is shown a paper bag 1 w1th a paper flap 2 pasted or glued to one side. This paper flap extends above the bag where it has laterally pro'ecting portions 2a. The upper portion of t e flap contains a pliable metal clamping strip; the flap being folded 4 over the metal strip.
In the modified form of bag shown in Figs. 6 and 7, thin liable strips of metal .3, vertically arranged are used. A suitable covering 4 such as paper or the like, is asted or glued over the metal strip 3 to hol them '05 m lace.
ccording to this invention, the neck of the bag is first collapsed and then folded over as shown in Fig. 3. Itis then folded again as shown in Fi 4 and 5, bringin the metal clam ing'mem er beneath the fo (1 as shown in ig. 5. The neck of the bag in its folded position will assume the position shown in Figs. 4 and 5 over the center line of the bag; the extensions 20, however, pro jecting outwardly. Y
An adhesive. tape 5is thenapplied over the folded neck of the bag and over the ends of ,the bag. As this tape is applied, it will bend the extensions 2w down against the ends of the ba as illustrated in Fig. and will be glue 'thereover to seal the ag. In the modified form shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the metal strips 3 are folded with the es neck of the bag and the adhesive tape is applied over the folded neck of the ha and against the ends thereof. In both orms the metal in the neck of the bag maintains the fold down while the tape is applied. 9'0 The tape '5 will securely seal the ba s against being tampered with, and when suc a package is received by a retail store and be desired to open a bag for treating the contents for a customer such as grinding -95 the same, he will merely tear the adhesive tape at the upper corners of the bag when the neck thereof may be unfolded and opened. After the contents have been treated and the same are returned to the 100 v bag, the neck of the bag may be folded and the extensions folded or bent over the folded portion for closing the bag.
In the modified form, after the seal has been broken, and the bag opened, it may again be closed by simply folding the neck of the ba the metal strips 3 having suflicient rigi ity to maintain the folded relations of the parts of the neck.
I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of construction may be varied through a Wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon, other- Wise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
1. A package having a folded neck portion, a metal member attached to the folded neck portion and bent over the body of the bag and a strip of adhesive tape glued over the folded neck portion and over the body in superposed relation with said metal strip.
2. A package comprising a paper bag having a folded neck portion with a metal member extending longitudinally of said fold and beyond the ends thereof and a strip of adhesive tape glued longitudinally over said folded neck portion and over the ends of said bag in superposed relation with said metal strip.
