With the foregoing and other objects in 15 view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and inthe details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that 22 changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be. made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention. Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a fireplace equipped with a fire back constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the device.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view through a modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the fireplace with which the fire-back or waterback is used, is indicated by the reference 35 character 5, the reference character 6 designating the grate of the fireplace.
The fire-back comprises a lower main section 6', a central section 7 and an upper sec tion 8, the sections being secured together'by means of the bolts 9 that extend through flanges formed integral with the sections.
Each section embodies an outer wall 10 and an inner wall 11, the walls, being spaced apart to provide passageways, the inner walls of the sections being arranged so that when the ends thereof are brought together, a chimney is provided for the smoke and other products of combustion to pass from the fireplace.

Arranged between the inner and outer walls of the lower section 6, is a battle including an inclined wall 7 inclined towards the front of the fireplace, and a rearwardly inclined wall 8, connected with the rear wall of the section.
The reference character 15 designates the water inlet pipe which is connected with a suitable source of water supply not shown, for directing cold water to the space. between-the front and rear walls of the attachment. At the upper end of the device is the. outlet pipe 16 through which the hot water passes to the radiatorsor spigots supplied with hot water from the device.
At the front of the fireplace is a sliding blower 17 which may be moved to regulate the passage of air into the fireplace. An air vent indicated at 18 is positionedat the top of the attachment to eliminate air pockets 0 that would tend to retard circulation of the water in the system.
In the form of the invention as shown by Figure 3 of the drawings, the device comprises a lower section 20, central section 21 and an upper section 22, the sectionsbeing connected, as clearly shown, and positioned within the fireplace and the chimney to receive heat therefrom. 7
The inner wall" of the lower section is formed with a plurality of offset portions 23 that increase the heatingsurface of the lower section, and provide wider contacting surfaces for the water that passes through the device.
A pipe 24 extends into the lower section and supplies the attachment with water, while at the upper end of the attachment, the pipe 25 provides the outlet pipe to supply hot water tothe radiators or spigots connected there with. r
From the foregoing it will be obvious that due to the construction shown and described the heat which usually is wasted by its passage through the chimney, is utilized in heating water to furnish'hot water to radiators which may be positioned in various rooms of a building to be heated by the heat from the fireplace.
I claim: A fire place construction comprising a body portion fitted w1th1n a fire place 013611111 sald body portion including a lower section, an upflow of water through the passageway, and I inlet and outlet pipes communicating with the passageway.
