D. KARRON HAND BAG Filed Dec. 5, 1929 mvENToR afzz'd'dfr/ M ATTORN Y Patented July 25, 1933 UNITED STATES OFFICE Devin manon, oF BROOKLYN, NEW Yonki' .HANDBAG i Appucatiminiea December e, 1929. serial 110.412,66?.
This invention relates tol hand bags, and;
more particularly toY a Vframe for ladies hand bagsand the like embQdyin-gornamental jaw members, and means for-hinged'- 5 ly connecting said jaw members with Yeach other consisting of structurally independent elements withl simple, inexpensive and effective means whereby said elements and the jawmembers may be rapidly assembled 'and secured in i'xed relation:1 to each other.
In one embodiment of the invention, theV j aw rmembers are formed from a: suitable or-4 namental material, such as Celluloid or py? roxylinand are of channel shaped form in cross section, said` channels 'receiving' the usual Vliingedly connectedfmetal frame elements which are-clinched upon the edges of the bag material. The metal frame elements and tlieornamental jaw members` arefurther provided with contiguous integral' portions, one of which is bent relative to theotherandin clinched engagement on the lat-4 ter, thereby permanently securing said jaw members and frame elements mental fastening or securing elements'for this purpose.
With the above and other objects in view,A
my new handbag frame; Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional View taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. l; j Fig. 3 is a detail fragmentary end ele'- vation, and A y,
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective viev7 of the 5 together i against separation and eliminating' the.` necessity of applyingrivets'or other supple-V concealed by I.hingedly connected end `portions of the? lmetal 'frame 'elementsV and the ornamental."
jaw members before the parts are assembled`.`

of ythe elementsA upon the material. "As g f herein shown, these rainevelements are fof"V general inverted U-shaped .contourand at their extremities areA lformed :with a-peitturedy ears indicated at 7 to receive suit-able' hinge pins or grommets 8.
. Jaw members 9.- are superimposed i'i'po'n the metal frame Velements 5 andprovid'e `an ornamentalv trimv kor .covering therefor. w i These Jaw members may be of celluloid; of
any selectedrolor, and are preferablyV formedfroin sheet material,l said 'material 1173*' being suitably cut andi bent to provide' ay i continuous jaw member 4of the `same general contour asv the Cframe element 5 and alsoof channel shapedform in 'cross section.
vHthin the channels of the ornamental Vmemi bers V9, `the'-hingedly connected frame ele" f y ments 7 are respectively snuglyitted sothat asse'en in Fig. 2 ofthe drawing, said metal frame yelementsl are completely covered and jaw members 9. 4 Y
Each of the members 9 is provided in suitably spaced relation vto eachV end thereof and in its intermediate portion-with a slot or opening shown at l0, and at'points cor- S5 respondinglyspaced from the ends of the metal frame .elements 5, theintermedia'te y-walls of theseelements are providedv with Y outwardly struck i tongues l1. VBefore as- Y semblage of parts,- these tongues l1 lextend atright angles tothe endjportions of the frame elements 5 asshown in Figzfi of the drawing,V and in applying the ornamental jaw members 9 upon said metal frame elef ments,.tlie end `portions of `the former may? beV resiliently sprung outwardly to a suiIi-v cient extent to enable thesame to'ride over the outwardly projecting tongues 11. When the intermediate portion of theV aw member comes into Contact with the intermediate l100- the u superimposed ornamental v9."
part of the 'frame element 5, theftongues l1 Y Will then be in registering relation With the openings 10 and Will be `received therethrough, the end portions of the jaw mem- `bers 9 returning to their normal positions and in'close engagement with the outer sidesl of Vthe opposite end portions of the frame krelements The lugs ll are then angularly Uponthe outer side of one of the-*jaw members 9- and on theu horizontal portion thereof, a suitable latch element indicated at l2 is mounted at vone of its ends for pivotal movement by means of a suitable rivet or stud lipassing transversely through the Jaw member and the associated metal frame elementjV This latch member is adapted to embrace the tWo jaw. members to hold the latter in tightly. closed position..
From the foregoing description consid-v ered in connection Wit-h the accompanying drawing, the construction and arrangement of the various parts constitutingY the novel V'features of the present .disclosure together With the advantages thereof will be `clearly understood. It will be seen'that'by the pro' vision of the integral connecting means whereby the metal frame elements and the ornamentaljaw'members mounted thereon lmay ybe secured together, that Vthese parts can be very easily assembled with great ra.-
pidity, and Without necessitating the employment of skilled labor or the use of spe-v f cialriveting machines. Thus quantity pro-V duction of suchhandbag frames Will be mabeing teriallyincreased With a lessening in labor and manufacturing cost, s,
While I haves'hoWn a particular form of the integrally formed connecting means between the frame parts, it Will be understood f that this means in its details might be other- Wise formed or constructed, and that the l general contour of the framepartslas Well as their cross sectional form might also Ybe varied.. It is accordingly to be understood Vthat the privilege is reserved of resorting col all suoli legitimate changes in the form, construction and relative arrangement of the severalparts of the deviceas may be fairlyV embodied Within the spirit and scope of the j yinventionas claimed.
Iclaim: Y p In a handbag frame, a pair of ornament-all trim membersofV Sheet material each having a'continuous groove or channel,.and means i for hingedly vconnecting said members with each otherrconsisting of metallframe elements hingedly connectedl at their-ends and K adapted to be respectively snugly kiitted in the channels of said trim members, Vsaid frame elements being also of channel shaped cross sectional form to` be clinched uponV the said elements in their intermediate portions' and adjacent their hingedly connected endsprovided n tongues,V said ornamental trim members hav`` ingrelatively yieldable endportions provided With openings therethrough toreceive the Ytongues on therespective kframe .ele-
'marginal edges ofthe handbag material,v and .With outwardly` struck ments When said trim members are superimf posed thereon, and said tongues adapted to be clinched inwardly uponthe outer surfaces of said trim members to permanently secure the parts in assembled relation.
