Description

y 1933- B. J. WEKENBORG 1,919,313
COMBINED STARTER AND CHOKE CONTROL Inventor 7? 6 y Patented July 25, 1 933 V UNITED STATES PATENT O BERNARD- JYWECKENBI'OBG, or 'ARG-YL-E, MISSOURI COMBINED srAnrnRnNn cnoxn CONTROL Application nieaialnm'r is isaa SeriaI'No. 586,807.
This invention appertains to new anduse' 1 ful improvements in control devices for automobiles and more particularly to novel control whereby the starter switch and engine choke can be actuated simultaneously by a single control. p
Other important objects and advantages ,1 of .the invention will become apparent to.
' the reader of the following specification. In the drawings v Figure 1 represents a fragmentary front elevational view disclosing the control connections. I
Fig. 2 represents a fragmentary top plan that numeral 5 designates the usual internal combustion engine, with the fuel supply line mera17. i r Numeral 8 represents the usual steering column housingto which is secured one or more brackets 9 each'ha ving a-bearing 10 through which the control rod 11 is both at numeral 6 and the choke control at nuslidably and rotatably disposed. The upper,
end of this rod 11 is provided with a lateral handle 12, while. its lower end is' provided with threads 13. This rod. 11 is disposed through an opening in the angle bracket 14: and jamb nuts on opposite sides of the bar numbered 15, and on the said rods 11 serve to permit the rod to rotate in the opening of the bar 14:, but permits the rod to rock the angle bar 16, due to the fact that the bracket 14 is secured to the angle bar 16 as at 17 and at one side of the fulcrum pin 18, the bar 16 being fulcrumed on the U-strap 19 which is secured to the steering shaft housing 8 in a suitable manner.
Numeral 20 represents the rod connected to the contactor of the starter switch and is equipped with a foot engageable button 21 at its upper end; This rod 20 is also equipped with a ,collar22 over which the, fork formation 23 on the end of the bar 16opposite from the bracket 14 engages. a A lever24 is secured to an intermediate portion ofthe control rod 11 and from this extends the flexible wire or cable 25.
A flexible conduit26is secured by'clamps 27 to the engine 5 and by clamps 28 to the fuel pipe 6 and extending through this con' duit 26 is the control jwire 25 which connects A to the ehokecontrol 27 as shown in Fig. 1.
It can now be seen, thatby pulling up i wardly on the rod 11, the starter switch will. be closed, and simultaneously by rotatingv the rod 11, a pull will be'exerted onthe cable 25 to properly regulate the choke 7 e A While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous; changes in the,
1 shape, size and materialsmay be resortedto without departing from the spirit and scope 1 of the invention as claimedhereinafter. I
. Having thus described my invention,wh t I claim as'newis; p
In combination, a throttle, a steering shaft fl ,housing, a bearing on the housing, a swingable member on the housing, an elongated rod extending through the bearing, a swiv:
elled connection betweenone end ofthe rod and the swlngable member, a lever on the rod, a connection between the lever and the throttle, an engine starter control "member have mga shoulder thereon, one end of the swing- H able member being equipped with a yoke for,
receiving the starter control member and to engage the shoulder, and a handlev on [the forementioned rod whereby'the rod can be rotated or slid through the said bearing-to T oscillate the lever on the rod or to rockthe a said swlngablemember for controlling the starter.
. BERNARD J3. WEKENBORG.
