This invention relates particularly' 'toduplicating machines of' the general type known as autographic registers.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a machine which will/enable a plurality of strips which have been folded into a zigzag packet to be drawn from the packet,

and divert one or more of therstrips tobe dispensed by the machine while the remainder are refolded and preserved in the machine, special pro-vision being made for assuring the proper folding in the storage compartment.
The invention is illustrated in a preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of a duplicating machine embodying the invention; Fig. 2, a broken vertical transverse section taken as indicated at line 2 of Fig. 1, showing the feed mechanism; and Fig. 3, a perspective view showing the lower side of the cover for the storage compartment of the machine.
In the construction illustrated, A represents a casing provided with a platen A, a compartment A for containing a supply acket, a compartment A for receiving the record strip, and a cover A which serves as a top for the compartment A B and C designate upper and lower feed roll shafts, re-
spectively, which are journalled on the casmg above the rear portion of the compartment A and B and C, gears connecting the shafts B and C gether at a predetermined ratio.
Any desired number of strips may be fed through the machine. In the illustration given, two strips are shown, namely, a lower strip G which constitutes the record strip, and an upper strip G which is dispensed by the machine. The supply packet from which the strips are drawn is designated G and the formed in thecompartmentA is designated G Any suitable feed mechanism may be employed in connection with the present invention and no invention is claimed for the one shown, which is well known in the art. The cover A is shown as comprising a main section 8, an auxiliary section 9 which is hinged to said main section, and a concavoconvex deflector plate 10 which is hinged from the auxiliary section 9. The marginal side portions of the section 8 may be bent downwardly and provided with perforation 8 to receive a rod 11 which serves as a pivot for the cover. The rearward edge of the section 9 serves as a separator for the strips G and G. The hinged connection between the sections permits the edge to be positioned very close to the rolls and still allow the cover to be swung open without removing the rod 11. If desired a locking device 12 may be provided to prevent anyone, not having a key, from tampering with the record strip. Uprights 14 are shown in each of the compartments to hold the packets in proper position. In order to assure that the record strip or strips will be properly refolded in the storage compartment it is important that the plate 10 be properly shaped and positioned. Heretofore such guide plates have been rigidly connected to the cover and difficulty was experienced in getting the strip to fold propervly when the storage compartment contained a Such devices have been found ineffectual in preventing the strips from buckling in the Wrong direction when the compartment was rather full. In the present invention it has been discovered that by hinging a rather light concavo-convex guide plate to the cover member, with the concave side towards the feed rolls so as to be close to the feed rolls, that the guide plate is in almost constant 0011- Lact with the strip coming into the compartment and that although the strip will exert suliicient force to swing the guide back when fo ding in the front of the compartment, the guide will keep the strip buckled properly so list it will fold satisfactorily at all times.
The foregoing detailed description ha been given for clearness of understanding only, and no unnecessary limitations should be understood therefrom, but the appended claim: should be construed as broadly as per missible, in view of the prior art.
What I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
