Serial No. 476,647, which resulted in Patent No. 1,879,233, dated September 27, 1932.
The object of this invention is to provide means for bending a clip into U-shape form and to press the prongs of the clip onto one surface of the ticket, and to bend the U-shaped portion so as to press said portion against the material and force thematerial into a slot or other shaped opening in the ticket. The invention can be used in connection with the machine set forth in the above application or may be used as an independent means for securing a ticket to the material without puncturing the material.

a is a ticket of any suitable form, having a slot 62-1 in the present instance, the slot belng near one end of the ticket. 6 is the fabric to which the ticket is applied. 00 is the wire, which is first bent into U-shaped form as shown in Fig. 14. This wire is then bent as in Fig. 15, the prongs being spread'apart and pressed upon the upper surface of the ticket on each side ofthe slot, and then the clip is bent as shown in Fig. 16, in which the looped portion of the ticket is bent under the material and the cross bar, the cross bar being in line with the slot of the ticket and the final step is to press this U-shaped portion of the ticket against the fabric so as to force the fabric into the slot in the ticket, thus holding the ticket firmly to the material without puncturing the material.
Referring now to Fig. 1, the wire in in the present instance passes through a throat in the block 42 and is sheared by a shearing die 43 which is slotted at 44, the lower edge of the slot forming the cutter. This shearing die is actuated by any suitable means. The means for bending the cut section of wire consists of avertical movable forked die 52. The forks of the die are slotted at 53 to receive and guide the wire while it is being bent. This die may be controlled by a suitable cam as in the above application. In order to hold the wire 00 while it is being formed by the forming die 52, a lever 59 is so located that the hooked arm 60 of the lever extends over the forming die 52 and over the 'wire as in Fig. 1, so that when the forming After the loop is formed in the wire as shown in Figs..2 and 14, the prongs w1 of the clip are bent over the ticket by the presser foot 65, Fig. 3, while the looped portion is held by the die 52. This movement forces the ticket firmly onto the fabric and onto the 9 support 40, holding the ticket and fabric while the lever 7 4;, Fig. 4, engages the looped portion of the clip and forces it against the material. The short arm of the lever has a lip which forces the loop end w''2 of the clip into the slot in the ticket, carrying with it the fabric under the slot, as shown in Fig. 4, fastening the ticket firmly to the material. The lever 74 is pivoted at 7 6, and the long arm of the lever is connected by a link 7 7 to mechanism actuated by a cam or other device as shown in the above-mentioned application. This completes. the operation of the machine and when the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1, the fabric with the ticket attached can be removed and another piece offabric and a ticket'can be placed in position, and the operation above described can be repeated.
In the application referred to above, this mechanism is claimed in connection with a ticket and material, of a support for the ma terial and a ticket; a slotted die below the support and in line with the edge of the ticket for forming a wire into U-shaped form to produce the clip; a hooked lever for engaging the wire and holding it while the U-shaped die is forming the clip; a presser foot for bending the prongs of the clip over and upon the ticket mounted with the material on the support; and a lever arranged to engage the looped portion of the clip and force it against the material, the short arm of the lever having a'lip which forces the looped end of the clip into the slot in the ticket, carrying with it the material under the slot, thus securing the ticket firmly to the material without puncturing the material.
