The present invention aii'ords a clip which may be employed either with a supporting board, or a frame having string attachments or a meshed screen. My clip engages the eX- treme edge portion of a hide or skin while imparting less damage to the margin of the skin than necessarily results from the employment of the conventional jaw type clamps or toggles. To permit these desirable results, I provide a clip in the form of a sheet'metal member having a body portion adapted to be hooked onto or secured to the supporting screen frame or board and an integra-l outstanding flange having an upsta-nding prong or prongs to penetrate the extreme edge of the hide, the hide being drawn taut so that it engages the edge of the outstanding flange with a snubbing action, thus affording arelatively firm' grip. At the upper end of the clip I may provide a bent portion toafford a finger hold to permit the more ready connection of the clip to the supporting screen or the like.

As shown in Fig. 5, a clip 2a yof this general character may be employed when a board is used rather than a meshed screen or the like for a support. As shown, the prong 7 a may be relatively sharp and driven into the wooden body of the board l2, thus firmly to support the clip. If desired, suitable `strings can be looped about the prongs 7 of clips of the type shown herein to support the hide by means of string attachments upon a frame.
Itis evident that a clip of the type disclosed herein may be manufactured out of sheet metal stock at a very low cost and that it is adapted to provide a relatively firm engagement with the edge of the hide without injuring any substantial area of the same, since the edge 51of the flange 6 has considerable length and does not dig into the hide vto vthe same extent as is the case with the jaw-type clamps or toggles. In other words the mark in the leather made by thefedge 5 is vmore easily removed than thelimpression of a con# ventional avv toggle; accordingly, despite the small openings made by the prongs 9l of my clips in the leather, the `latter is actually injured less thanY by the clamps previously used.' Furthermore the jaws of the clamptype toggles cover areas of the leather which are thus prevented from receiving the tanning or drying action whichis received by `there,- mainder of the Skin, while my clips permit the Vexposure of practically the entire area of the faces of the leather.,
