'Thisfinvention'relates ytooil burners and particularly to fire pots thereof.
-vThe main objects of th `mvention are to provide a -fire pot of improved construction yhaving means for vigorously turbulating a physical mixture of air and oil so as to pro- .ducel a substantial absorption of air by the f oil; to `provide a refractory lining ina fire pot of this kind which has a fuel and air inlet i anda registering recess for receiving the supplyof oil and air; to provide an improved nozzle for discharging .fuel and air into-the recess; to provide a recess of this kind which is formed so asto direct the fuel and air'supply asv it leaves the recess in a course following thecurvature of the side wall of the lining; to provide an end wall in a recess of this type which'extends transversely of the path ofthe incoming voil and, air forming a :baille against which the oil and air supplyis directly 1m- -pinged so as to recirculate and turbulatethe same; and to provide'a side wall `in the; fuel and air receiving recess whichhas aninner end portion that is adapted -to spread the flame resulting from combustionof the fuel evenly-around the periphery of the'fire pot at the open end thereof. f A further object of this invention is to provide 'a fire pot lining which includes a pair of convenable, precast sections.

Extending through the throatis apassage which communicates with nan, inlet aperture 4 in the side wall of the bowl. r The burner is supported on a pedestal 5 which is received in an aperture of a bracket 6 1 having a bolt ,7 threaded therein by means of which the bowl isheld at a selected elevation.` f
' Seated inthe outer bowl l is an inner bowl 8 preferably formed of high temperature rheat y1931i.rv seriai 110.454,1251;
resisting, refractory material Awhich forms a lining. The inner bowl 8 includes upper and lower Lsections l9 and 10each having a side wall portion'.` The edge of the side wall portion 10 of the lower section has a groove -11 f formed thereinA and the edge of the side -wall of the upper section 9 has Va tongue 12 which is seated in the groove 11 ofthe lower section.
These sections are cast separately and are cemented together at theladjacent edges of their side wall portions by high temperature resisting cement when assembled together.
Formed on the upper end of the section `9 is a peripheral flange 13 which extends inward- 1y, restricting theropen end of the inner bowl 8 somewhat. The lower section 10 ofthe lin ing has a bottom wall 14 in which a recess .15 is provided, and the side wall of the inner bowl has aninlet opening lwhich registers with the inlet openingff of the throat 3 of the outer bowl. The'inner yend and intermediate portion of the outerfside wall 17 of the recess 15 substantially coincides with theinner periphery of the side wall of thebowl 8. `The recess'l is located in'registration with'the inlet opening 16 and the end portion v18 of the outer side wall of the recess isV substantially tangent to the inner periphery of the bowlf8. The innerside edge portion 19 is substantially parallel to the edge portion 18 of the recess, betweenthe inner extremity of the inlet aperture 16 with which it registers andthe diameter, indicated by dotted line 20 which is normal to the edge portion "18 of the recess. The side edge 21 of the recess 15 which extends inwardly from the diameter 20 is inclined relative to the edge portion 19 asy shown lin Fig. 1, for the purpose'of distributing the flame resulting `from the combustion of fuel in the burner, evenly around the flange 13. Formed at the inner extremity of the recess 15 is a wall or shoulder 22 which serves asa baille for turbulating fuel when the latter is discharged into the recess. The impingethe throat 3, apertures 4 and 16, and into the interior of the bowl 8. The nozzle 23 is positioned at an inclination to the bottom wall 14 of t-he lining 8 and its discharge end extends into the recess 15. Communicating with the outer end of the nozzle 23 is an air and fuel supply conduit 24 through which both air and fuel ai'e supplied by a fan orother suitable means, not shown.
In operation, the air and fuel which is discharged into the recess 15 through the nozzle 23 iinpinges or strikes the shoulder 22 by which it is turbulated and rebounded into the main iow of aii coming from the nozzle, thereby causing the fuel, in the form of oil, to absorb substantial quantities of air. The fuel and air are directed by the recess 15 in a` current which follows the curvature of the flange orvdiaphragm 13, and the side edge portion 21 of the recess which is inclined with respect to the edge portion 19, it is found, causes the flame which results from combustion of the fuel to spread evenly as it emerges from the burner around the diaphragm 13.
By providing precast sections of refractory material in the construction of the lining, the molding of the latter' is materially simplified. These sections are separately cast and later assembled and cemented together before installation in the outer bowl 1; In some instances it may be found desirable to separately place the sections 9 and 10 in the outer bowl 1 and cement them together therein.
Although but one specific embodiment of this invention hasbeen herein shown and described, it will bey understood that numerous details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of this invention as defined by the following claims. i
What we claim is i 1. A burner fire pot including a bowl generally circular in section parallel to its bottom wall having a recess in the inner side of its bottom wall and adjacent its side wall and a registering inlet opening, and a nozzle extending through said opening tangentially to its side wall and into said recess at an inclination to said bottom Wall for dischargnig fuel into said recess. y

A burner fire pot including a bowl' generally circular in section parallel to its bottom wall having a recess in the inner-side of its bottom wall and a registering inlet opening in its side wall, one side edge of said recess being substantially adjacent the inner surface of the side wall of said bowl, and a fuel nozzle extending through the opening at a tangent to said side wall having a portion of its outlet end inclined to said bott-oni Wall and below the open side of said recess.
3. A burner fire pot including a bowl generally circular in section parallel toits bottom wallr having a recess in the inner side of its bottom wall and adjacent its side wall and a registering inlet opening, and a fuel nozzle extending through said opening for discharging fuel into said recess, the end wall of said recess extending in a generally radial direction with respect to said bowl and for1ning a bafile for turbulating said fuel.
4. A burner fire pot including a bowl generally circular in section parallel to its bottom wall having a recess in the inner side of its bottom Wall and adjacent its side wall and a registering inlet opening, and a nozzle extending' through said opening tangentially to its side Wall and into said recess at an inclination to said bottom wall for discharging fuel into said recess, and said recess having an end wall at its inner extremity of said recess extending substantially transversely of the flow of fuel therein for turbulating the fuel. r 1

A burner fire pot including a bowl generally circular in section parallel to its bottoni wall having an open upper end and a side inlet opening, an inwardly extending flange on the upper end of said bowl con stricting the opening therein, the bottom wall of said bowl having a recess in its inner surface registering with said inlet opening and located directly below said flange, 4and a nozzle extending through said inlet opening and into said recess tangential to the side Wall for discharging fuel into the latter, said recess having an upstanding end wall in the pathof the fuel flow therein for turbulating said fuel.
6. A burner fire pot including a metal `casing having an inlet throat, a bowl generally circular in section parallel to its bottom wall in said casing comprising refractory material and having an opening registering with said inlet throat, the bottom Wall of said bowl having a recess therein registering with said opening and coinciding at one edge with the side wall of said bowl, and a nozzle inclined to its bottom wall mounted in said inlet throat having its outlet end in said recess tangential to the side wall for discharging fuel thereiiito. y
7. A burner fire pot including a metal casing having an inlet throata bowl generally circular in section parallel to its bottom wall in said vcasing comprising refractory material and having an opening registering with said inlet throat, the bottom wall of said bowl having a recess therein registering with said opening, said recess having an outer wall aligned with an extending along the side wall of said bowl, and a nozzle mounted in said inlet throat having its outlet end in said rev cess tangential to the side wall for discharging fuel thereinto, said recess having an inner end wall extending transversely of and in the path of How of fuel from said nozzle and forming a balile for turbulating said l fuel.

9. A burner fire pot including a bowl enerally circular in section parallel toits ottom wall having an open top and a bottom wall having a recess adjacent the side wall therein, and means extending into said bowl in registration with said recess for discharging `fuel and air thereinto, said recess having an upstanding end wall in the path of `said fuel and air for turbulating the same as it leaves said recess and the inner side of said recess having converging portions for distributingthe flame resulting from combustion of said fuel.
