Description

May 16, 1933. KGARBARINI v v I 1, 0
' HOLDER FOR AUTOCOLLIMATQRS I Filed Aug. 25, 1930 Patented May 16, 1933 UNITED STATES, PATENT, OFFICE ANDRE GARIBABINI, COUBBEVOIE, FRANCE, ASSIGIIOB, BY IESNE ASSIGNMENTS, '10 LIBBEY CATAPHOTE CORPORATION, O]? TOLEDO, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO HOLDER FOB AUTOCOLLIIA'I'OBS Application filed August 25, 1930. Seihl No. 477,089.
The present invention relates to a holder for autocollimating devices and in particular for such autocollimators as comprise an objective lens, preferably hemispherical, and
5 a reflector formed integral therewith or joined theretovby means of an appropriate cementing or binding agent.
One object of the present invention is to provide a holder that can be easily assembled and whichhas a low manufacturing cost.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a holder that can be easily secured to a wood or metal panel and which cannotbe removed by an unauthorized person.
A further object of the invention is to provide a form of holder which will keep out the dustand prevent the humidity from penetrating to the metal-coated backing surface of the reflector of the autocollimator.
Yet a further object of the invention is to provide a holder which when fixed on painted characters will given an impression of relief Without aflecting the visibility. To these and other ends, the invention consists in certain improvements, combinations and arrangementsof parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the features of novelty being pointed out particularly in the claims at the end of the specification.
I I In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 represents a central vertical section of the assembled holder mounted on a metal panel,
Fig. 2 illustrated a detail of a nut device" soldered to the metal panel to take the holder' and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the holder.
stamped to form a portion of a sphere within which is housed the reflector 2 of an autocollimating lens joined toor integral with a hemispherical object lens 3 projecting from the apertured end of the holder which makes a snug fit with the autocollimater at the 'oining surface 3 ofthe reflector 2 and o ject lens 3 so as to keep out the dust and pre- 1 vent the humidity from making its way to the metal-coated reflecting surface 4 of the The holder comprises an outer shell 1- reflector. Withinthe opposite open end of the shell 1 is mounted a member 5 stamped out to form a cup which is secured to the shell 1 in any suitable manner. Between the flat bottom 6 of the cup 5 and the reflector 2 is inserted a filling member such as a felt 7. The bottom 6 of the cup 5 has a central opening which maybe apertured or tapped to take a screw 7 adapted to be screwed intothe wood or metal anel on which it is desired to mount the older. In order to prevent unauthorized removal of the holder once it has been mounted on the panel, the cup member 5 has tabs 8 struck up from the bottom 6 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. When the holder is mounted on a wooden paneh'the tabs 8 only allow rotation of the older in one direction, namely that in which the screw 7 makes its way into the wood, but prevents rotation of the screw in the opposite direction to withdraw the holder by biting into the wood panel. These tabs can however be dispensed with when it is not desired to prevent removal of the holder.
Fig. 1 illustrates an arrangement for mounting the holder on a metal panel 9. On the face of the anel 9 is soldered or otherwise secured a ate 10 having a raised portion 11 stamped out in the form of a square or hexagonal nut, a similar square or hexagonal nut 12.being lodged in the gap between the panel 9 and the stamped raised portion 11 of the plate 10. An opening is formed in the stamped portion 11 through which passes the screw 7- of the holder which screws into the nut 12. As the holder is screwed home, the tabs 8, owing to their shape, easily pass over the wings of the plate 11, but'when an attempt is made to rotate the holder in the opposite direction, the
tabs 8 abutagainst the plate 11 and prevent rotation.
Naturally, when the holder is mounted on a wooden panel, the stamped plate 10 may be dispensed with, the tabs 8 biting directly into the wood. I claim:
1. A holder for autocollimating devices includin a reflector and an objective lens joined ereto', said holder comprising a stamped shell housing said reflector and shaped to fit snugly about the joining surface of said reflector and objective, a stamped cup member engaged within the outer end of said shell with its bottom turned inwards, a filling member inserted between the bottom of said cup member and said reflector, a screw mounted in said cup member, and a panel member having a portion in which said screw is screwed to mount said holder on said panel.
2. A holder for autocollimating devices including a reflector and an objective lens joined thereto, said holder comprising a stamped shell housing said reflector and shaped to fit snugly about the joining surface of said reflector and objective, a stamped cup member engaged within the outer end of said shell with its bottom turned inwards, a filling member inserted between the bottom of said cup member and said reflector, a screw mounted on said cup member, a panel member having a portion in which said screw is screwed to mount said holder on said panel, and tab portions struck up from the bottom of said cup member and between the bottom of said cup member and a holder.
adapted to engage with said panel to prevent unauthorized removal of said holder.
3. A holder for autocollimating devices including a reflector and an objective lens joined thereto, said holder comprising a stamped shell housin said reflector and shaped to fit snugly a out the joining sur- I face of said reflector and objective, a stamped-cup member engaged within the outer end of said shell with its bottom turned inwards, a filling member inserted said reflector, a screw mounted on said cup member, a panel member, a plate secured to said panel and including a stamped central portion spaced from said panel, a nut lodged in the gap between said stamped plate portion and said panel and in which said screw is adapted to engage, and tab portions struck up from the bottom of said cup member and adapted to engage with the nonstamped ends of said plate to prevent removal of said ANDRE GARBARINL
